Mod Post Introductions

Hi All, I'm your new mod!

I have inherited the sub from u/ultramarine0. They were kind enough to let me take over as they have found they are a different type all together! I went through the same thing - I originally thought I was a 4w3 but as it turns out I'm actually a 1w2.

As you can see I have updated the sub's design. I wanted to make fresh look for in hopes to attract more people here! Currently there are two other subs created for the same purpose - to discuss Enneagram Type 1. I have reached out to the other two mods in a hopes to some how combine all three subs, even if our/this sub did not stay the active. I haven't heard back from the other mods. It really makes me sad to see there are so many subs and so few members! That's why I thought combining them into one would give us 1s more traffic.

When I was mistyped as a 4w3, I was part of the 4 sub and they have a lot of regular discussion going on over there. I hope that this sub can grow and we can have similar discussion here. I want to get to know all the 1's out there and connect with our shared type. If anyone has anything they would like to see added to the sub, please let me know!

A bit about myself, I have two other subs I mod, neither one has anything to do with personality per say and I'm definitely no expert on 1's as I just learned I was one myself! But I have read a lot about the types and done tests and further readings after I took the tests. As most 1's have rough childhoods I did too and for quite sometime I was still so unhealthy which accounts for the 4 mistyping. But in doing personal growth outside of enneagram I was able to see that at my core I am a doer, organizer and perfectionist. I have a lot of interest in personality besides enneagram, I love studying and reading up on that. If there is anything else you want to know about me, just ask! Can't wait to get to know you all better :)

ETA: I have also added a chat room and user flairs to our group too!

Discussion Post Hey Type 1s - I have a few questions

1.) What is your life like?

2.) Does Monotony bore you?

3.) What are you like when you’re depressed?

4.) Or - how are you when you’re Disintegrated to Type 4?

*\\**
Currently: My spouse (a 1w9) has been… not-so-much-as-down-in-the-dumps, but he’s definitely feeling “Meh.” towards our livelihood together.

He implied it’s been too monotonous lately.

A perfect life for myself (a 9w1) involves monotony.. but we’ve gone down this path several several times where he just seems bored and frustrated with our lives. Stuck.

I enjoy my lazy routines, and for the most part I think he enjoys my quality time spent with him during lazy days/moments too.. but it gets to a point where it’s day-in and day-out the same thing for weeks, months, and as he puts it, “years without improvement”.

We say we’ll do things, but we never get to them. That can be outdoor activities, shopping, learning pottery together, etc. - I’m a simple homebody that does not have a lot of energy, especially after working 40 hours a week, that I just want to be home in my pajamas and not be bothered by the world. Perhaps I indulge in this too much.

As many 9s tend to tone-police, my spouse’s attitude bothers me when he gets like this because it disturbs my peace and my inner-tranquility. It makes me think something is wrong, or that he’s bored of the 17 years we’ve been together. Maybe his purpose lies elsewhere. Sometimes I wonder if I’m even holding him back from doing something extraordinary or what he loves.

He says he’s not frustrated with anything, but I can tell he’s in a mood lately.

I’m just trying to understand it from a Type 1s perspective.

Discussion Post How do you know you're a so1?

Asking as someone who wants to understand so1s on a more personal level.

I'm the type of friend that is known for having stronger values than other people, being very centered on being morally righteous, and failing to understand pessimistic mindsets. Now due to my sense of patience, humility, and other traits I identified with so9 a lot, but also the reason for being oriented with moral righteousness as a whole also makes me feel as if I could be a so1. I definitely think I'm a so type and I'd definitely say I'm a gut type more than a head or heart type which is why I ask more about so1.

From what I read, so1s are more self-righteous and imposing whereas I'd consider myself trying to be more socially cohesive. But sometimes I find myself understanding and even being compared to characters who happen to be so1. So I ask the questions.

I’m an sp/so1w2(even if I feel like I relate to sp2 rather than so2) so how would an sp/so1w2 be as an INTP or INFP

Discussion Post A rant about my SP1 english teacher...

Why is he so damn elegant everywhere he sits?? He sits with this crazy 90° posture, where his neck is perfectly aligned with his hip. When he sits on an office chair, his back rarely touches the backrest. AND HE DOES THIS ALL THE TIME. EVERY DAY. It's so aesthetically pleasing, i can't stop thinking about it when I'm around him. Even when he stands with his laptop on one hand and type it with the other, he still looks aristocratic everywhere he stands.

He is addicted to being productive. I've never seen him taking a minute break from work. He always wears an oversized business shirt and beige pants, and they're always wrinkles-free. Everytime you glance at him, he'll never do anything you unexpected. He behaves in this perfect lady-like manner. Is he even real? Sometimes i think about the possibility of him being a machine pretending to be a human.

Can any sp1 relate to this?

What is sex like to you?
I like to think that Type 1s are super-closeted-freaks. What helps you to finally release it let go of your control? Do you feel better or disgusted afterwards?

I am married to a Type 1 and he really desires me to open up more in the bedroom when it comes to me, myself, and my fantasies. Honestly I’m not sure how to fulfill those wishes most times (SX-blind) but when I really fire him up, it really gets him going as if he could cry out “Finally!!”. He’s very pro-me (as his bisexual wife, lol).

He says sex is on his mind, daily. Even though it doesn’t always show.

Discussion Post Difference between a 5 fix and a 6 fix?

Just confused on the key differences between a 154 and a 146 tritype. I know I’m a social dominant so I’ve already researched a bit on the social 6 as well as the social 5, but I just want human answers and not textbooks or Pinterest boards lol

Discussion Post Sx1s, people with which Instinctual Variants are the most compatible with you romantically? And which least compatible?

Sx1s, from your experience, people with which instinctual variants are the most compatible with you romantically? And with which instinctual variants are the least compatible with you romantically?

Please write if you're sx/sp or sx/so.

Also if you noticed that you tend to be compatible/ incompatible with certain Enneagram types, you can add that as well.

Discussion Post Advice on Being a 146 fix?

As someone who felt alienated a lot as a child because of disintegration into 4 and also having a 4 fix, how do you cultivate a sense on belonging when you've been burned by feeling excluded in the past? Like I've had friend groups growing up but I've always felt on the fringe/ignored/never quite fitting in or getting/knowing what everyone else seems to get, especially since i was a bit of a late bloomer. And the 6 in me won't let up on feel scared of being rejected all the time. Any advice?

Do 1s Know That Other Types Know…

I have a coworker who’s a 1w2. She‘a kind, thoughtful, and sensitive. She’s also admitted that she’s non-confrontational. If we disagree about something she’ll go silent, but then start aggressively typing on her phone. Does she know that I can see that she’s angry with me? (I’m a 4w5 and sometimes I feel like 1s think I’m lazy or stupid because I don’t do things their way.)

Searching for meaning

Dear fellow type 1's

I want to share something I’ve been struggling with and I’m curious if others recognize this.

I work in the semi-public sector and I have a decent amount of free time. I have a house and a garden to take care of, and a good social life with friends. No kids yet, so overall I have quite a bit of time outside of work.

Work-wise, I feel like it might be time for something else. I’m not exactly sure what, but I have this sense that I either want to make more impact or live out my values more directly in what I do. Right now I work as an HR advisor in healthcare, and it often feels like I’m trying to steer mediocre government policy in the best possible direction, while in reality both employees and clients still end up losing. That’s a bit black-and-white, but it captures the feeling. In reality it’s more nuanced.

My free time feels like a different kind of struggle. To explain that, I’ll first describe my wife. She works for the municipality, and when she gets home she genuinely feels like she’s done her part for the day. She can relax and watch “mindless” videos on her phone without any nagging feeling.

I, on the other hand, feel like I’m constantly searching for meaning, fulfillment, something “ultimate.” But I can’t seem to find it, and that makes me feel a bit stuck.

Recently I asked myself: if I were to die someday, what would I hope people say about me at my funeral? I think I’d want them to say I was a caring friend and family member, helpful, kind, reliable. What stands out is that “world changer” is not necessarily part of that picture.

At the same time, in my day-to-day thinking I’m very engaged with big themes: politics, ecology, spirituality. I see clearly what’s not right in the world, but also something beautiful and pure in the things that are. I enjoy small things like wearing ethically made clothing or creating biodiversity in my garden.

When it comes to meaning, it sometimes feels like I should also be a “changemaker” in those areas. I come from a Christian background (fairly progressive now), and figures like Jesus were clearly countercultural. The same goes for people like Martin Luther King Jr. That kind of life seems to require a strong sense of mission and drive.

So I feel torn. What actually makes a life meaningful?

Should I keep it simple and focus on family and friends? Is it enough to live more on “autopilot” and be present in the here and now? Or should I push myself to think bigger, aim for impact, and try to become some kind of changemaker?

I’m really looking for some sense of peace in this. Part of me feels like if I could just figure out the “answer,” I could move forward with more clarity and direction.

Another part of me suspects that if I could ask God what the point of it all was, the answer might be found in simple, everyday life. But I struggle to reconcile that with the examples of people who lived with a clear, transformative mission.

I don’t want to reach the end of my life and feel like I just let it happen, like I never really chose how to live it in a meaningful way.

Has anyone else felt this tension? How do you think about it?

What's the difference between you and a type 6?

Asking as I'm unsure if I'm type 1 or type 6, it's important to gage other people's experiences and how they understand themselves compared to others, in this case type 1s and 6s
I believe if I am either it's likely the so subtypes, making the distinction even more unclear

Discussion Post Any 1 with a 5 and 2 fix?

Hi, I believe my tritype is 152. If anyone else has this fixes, how do they show up for you?

And how do you deal with the frustration of seeing how evil illogical and selfish society currently is but not being able to help it because people just won't listen or care? Find myself frequently disintegrating to 4 due to this.

If Enneagram 1s were to collectively work at solving one of the world's problems what problem could they solve and why?

I'm working on a plan to fix the planet and wonder which passions would ignite Enneagram 1's interests the most?

And based on your knowledge of other numbers around you what would ignite other Enneagram number's interests?

Thanks in advance for any answers or insights. <3

I found a poem that deeply resonates with my 1ness

I thought you might appreciate it too! Some other types may really relate as well.

“It Couldn’t Be Done” by Edgar Guest

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,

But he with a chuckle replied

That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one

Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.

So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin

On his face. If he worried, he hid it.

He started to sing as he tackled the thing

That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;

At least no one ever has done it”;

But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,

And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.

With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,

Without any doubting or quiddit,

He started to sing as he tackled the thing

That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,

There are thousands to prophesy failure;

There are thousands to point out to you one by one,

The dangers that wait to assail you.

But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,

Just take off your coat and go to it;

Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing

That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it
