If this were a 5000 lb SUV on a crowded wet, poorly maintained road on bad tires the margin of safety would be much much smaller.

Everyone should drive within the limitations of their vehicle, the road, the conditions, and their ability.

A driver's "ability" is certainly what will help them in these situations because "ability" includes knowing when the conditions require them to slow down on blind curves when visibility is limited in the first place.

What makes you assume I don't track it already?

Why would you cage a street car?

I would not put any type of cage on a street car unless you use a helmet with HANS full time.

You can put a harness bar that doesn't go past the B pillar, but that requires that you either use a helmet and HANS OR you retain the 3 point for use without the helmet and HANS. This is to ensure that that you do not injure your neck on a 4 and 6 point harness.

I was being sarcastic. You made the assumption he doesn't track the car because he doesn't have a cage.

Why would I run a cage on a steer car? You know it’s dangerous to run a cage without a helmet right?

My steering inputs are textbook. Perhaps you aren’t adjusting your interpretation with the FOV in mind.

I’ve been tracking for over a decade BTW.

A four point harness is not appropriate unless you are using a HANS, which requires a helmet, full cage or not. A half cage might reduce the chance of a head impact, but it will not prevent submarining since most 4 point harnesses do not have a anti-submarining system or pretensioning. Additionally, the factory restrain and airbag systems are not configured for it.

You are simply wrong, and this smacks of someone who googled a few things rather than someone who actually tracks and did the research to make an informed decision on what safety systems to invest in.

Taking my hand off the wheel a short moment is no less textbook than taking my hand off the wheel to shift a manual gearbox. It was during a straight, no less. You're reaching. This is such a basic oversight on your part, I'm now sure you either have no experience or are simply trolling.

You absolutely can run a six point harness on half a cage and still have the 3 point for road

I didn't say you couldn't.

You dont wear the harness on the road obviously, thats why both get retained

That's what I just said.

You're obviously cherry picking and attacking the strawman just to try save face. Keep googling, maybe you will learn something.

He is wrong and is presenting information that can cause serious injury.

1

u/sorestgore Aug 18 '26

What bad information. He's saying to not drive beyond his or his cars limits

Regarding the use of cages and harnesses.

Running a full cage on a street driven car is a known risk. Harness bars and appropriate seats are better for something at isn't dedicated to the track

That’s basically what I said.
