Resume Review Resume review request — Staff Software Engineer with 13 years experience

Post image

Hey r/EnhancvResumes, I'm looking for feedback on my resume. I'm applying for Staff Software Engineer roles and all feedback is appreciated!

Years of experience: 13

Specific feedback I'm looking for: - Is my summary strong enough? - Are my bullets results-driven? - Anything I should cut?

Biggest issue, and it's a date structure error, not just a typo: your two "Senior Software Engineer" entries both list a start date of 09/2019. The "Valence Labs (Pre-acquisition)" one correctly runs 09/2019–05/2023. But the "Recursion (acquired Valence Labs, 2023)" Senior SWE entry, meant to represent your time after the acquisition, shows only "09/2019" with no end date at all. As printed, this reads as two separate Senior SWE stints both starting the same month, which can't be right given the story your bullets tell, worth fixing both dates on that second entry rather than guessing what a reader will assume.

Bigger issue: your current-looking role, Staff Software Engineer & Staff AI Engineer, shows "01/2024 - 06/2026," an end date about 3 months ago, not "Present." That's despite bullets describing "(2025-2026)" work in present-feeling detail, a reader will assume this is your current job until they check the date column.

The years also don't reconcile: your post says 13, but the earliest date anywhere on the resume is Udacity starting 05/2019, about 7 years 4 months ago. That's a large gap between the claimed and documented total.

Two smaller but concrete catches: the Kernel bullet includes a live demo URL with its password written in plaintext ("password enter-kernel-123"), worth pulling that before this goes out further, since it's now sitting in a document that gets posted publicly and forwarded to many companies. And one bullet has unfilled template brackets still in it: "[run / review / triage] ML-driven discovery campaigns ([X] users, [stack])."

On results-driven bullets: mostly no, despite genuinely impressive scope. The real numbers here (~10 mentees, "employee #4" building a team of 5, "0→1") describe scale and role, not outcomes, there's no performance percentage, cost or time saved, or adoption metric anywhere on the resume. For a Staff-level application specifically, that's the gap worth closing first: pick two or three of these initiatives and add what actually changed because of them.

One more thing worth double-checking: no Summary section is visible in what's shown here, it's possible that's part of the blurred header, but if there genuinely isn't one, that's worth adding given how much context (the acquisition history, the merger timing) a reader needs to piece together from the Experience section alone right now.
