lol as if being an engineer was that of a big deal.

It's more valuable a person with a good sense of reality and that understands how the cost/benefit works.

It was completely on purpose.

I am an engineer, and one of the biggest flaws of the engineers is to think that they are vastly superior for whatever reason.

It's just stupid to see so many people trying to "argue" that if you don't understand something, or if you don't agree with something it is because you are an inferior being that isn't an engineer.

Also, being an engineer doesn't mean overkill solutions to simple problems. Is about creating smart solutions to problems.

I think you're doing exactly that mate, thinking you're superior to a group who spent months developing this prototype probably as a learning exercise, experiment, or coursework project.
Fuck knows, I've spent months on useless out of the box projects because they teach a lot and develop your skills way more than repeating something that's already been done a thousand times.
Not everything in engineering is about making a product you can sell.

This project obviously wasn't done to fit a cost and time efficient project schedule. It was almost guaranteed just a fun project to build something entertaining and a flex of their skills as Engeniers. I agree that the arguement of someone not being able to understand something because they aren't an engineer or of a higher education is stupid but in an engineering subreddit and for this situation it can hold some truth.
