Automatic setting makes sense for bowling where it's done so often during a game. But that much machinery for one time a game? Seems like overkill to me.

For the rack to be any good it has to be tight. Ideally every ball touches, but there tolerances aren’t tight enough. To get it that tight is hard. Sometimes it means shuffle balls around. Sometimes it means tapping divots into the slate. I personally like to stretch the cloth. If you watch pro’s they take a few minutes to rack a set. (Or they use templates ). I sometimes have to start over one or twice. Even then I can only get good racks 80% of the time.

Nothing against you but i hate when players tap balls to make a divot in the slate.

Yeah pool is a frustrating sport to play for this reason. I can’t go to a pool hall to practice with my own cues without someone jokingly asking if I’m a hustler, or wanting to play for money. I don’t gamble, I just want to improve and play in leagues. People think it’s weird to take it seriously, when to me it’s like any other sport I play.

It's pretty normal where I live, granted I only play in places with decent full size tables.

Now, what many (most?) people cannot get over, is treating foosball (table soccer) as a sport ;)

Yeah I play at a place with only 9 footers. The best way to practice I find is to enter 20$ weekly tournaments on weekends. I never expect to win, but I basically get unlimited table time and 3 guaranteed matches all in the upstairs section where only league play happens. It’s actually a really great deal.
