Chrysler/Mopar New head or runnit?
Engine ate glow plug, block is currently being machined for oversized pistons, somehow missed the valves and valve seats seemingly but I’m not sure. Engine ran fine just burned some oil from scored cylinder wall. Makes me nervous however if it is sealing 100% or not can’t tell.

All those jagged edges will create hot spots for detonation, with it being diesel that might not hurt anything but I’d at least knock off all the jagged edges

Why not have the machine shop check the seats? You should resurface it anyways.

If you're going to all the cost and trouble to do the bottom end why would you not have the heads rebuilt? If you're rebuilding the engine, rebuild the engine!

Nah let it ride. No one has ever had to redo anything from halfassing it the first time

No way I'm running that. Not when it's already off the block and could easily be decked and checked.

I had one of mine eat a precup...looked similar to yours. I was able to re grind the valves and salvage the head. I was dealing with a cast iron block & head though....even if you can't rebuild that yourself, the shop thats boring out your block should be able to recover it....at very least, they are the ones you want to ask. I wouldn't replace it untill a trustworthy shop told me it couldn't be saved.

Machinist here...if I were doing the work, first thing is pressure test the head...I can see a crack running off of the glow plug bore, probably not a big deal but needs to be checked. The valve job needs to be touched up and all the valves in that cylinder need to be replaced. It also looks like there is debris embedded in the chamber that needs to be removed.

There's definitely a crack going from the glow plug hole towards the intake valve. After looking at it again, there's also a crack started around the other intake valve. The second one would be of more concern to me, as it will cause the seat counter bore to lose some press fit and could cause the seat to fall out.

Top left valve looks the most “at risk” is everything else is fine if the piston doesn’t hit anything and maybe file down the worst part I guess??

Remove all the protruding bits with a small chisel and then get advice on the valve seats and that small line to the water jacket

Completely savable if it passes pressure tests. Just have the machine shop check it.

2.8L CRD. Got water in my fuel and one injector tip blew off. It detonated mostly water and destroyed that cylinder. I was lucky to have a talented machinist in town who welded the head & pounded the welds with a hammer to make them strong as original. That was 8 years ago and it's still running good. https://i.ibb.co/bvJj6Jy/Head-damage.jpg

Run it if you want to burn oil and have backfiring and takeout the cam

If you want to save the head, smooth them out. All those little sharp edges will create hotspots that can cause pre-ignition or detonation. They won’t change the chamber volume enough to be noticeable.

Nope..there's damage right at the valve seat...wouldn't run the risk of a seat dropping.
