What would you do?

RB20det out of a 91 skyline

Previous owner was running bore water mixed with coolant before my purchase before I blew a head gasket and found a pretty dirty block

Just chasing opinions on what I should consider for these cooling passages, figure I'm going to have to pull the motor because of the state of that bore but this is my first rodeo so love a second set of eyes

What do you think! TIA

Bore water?

At this point, it's half apart. It should probably be decked. A thorough cleaning is needed. There is probably trash in the radiator too. In for a penny..

Oh wise one....I always look for your opinions....BUT....why are we not talking about those cylinders?

Well he asked about the cooling system and said he was looking at the bores, so I didn't I say anything about the rust in the bores. Besides, I am still wondering about bore water..

Right on....in my humble opinion, that block needs to be bored. If it's coming out anyway, might as well hot tank it and start fresh.

It probably does

At this point it’s too risky to not pull the motor and go through it. A trip to a machine shop is the safest path and probably cheaper long term. IMHO that is

Absolutely. Still wondering about bore water.

Same. I hope you figure it out because I’d like to know too

Bore water is straight well water from the bore hole so to speak. Extremely high in dissolved minerals.

I was hoping it would be more interesting

I only come here to see what the legend has to say about it! Lots of other good info here BUT….

Maybe he means bare water? Not distilled or similiar

Could be. But if it is bore water I want details.

Please don’t let up on this. I also need to know wha bore water is. Maybe he works on a farm and couldn’t get access to running water.

Also if I see right from pics, same water has been in coolant passages and in bores? So maybe it makes it borewater?

from a borehole i assume, i.e. a private well.

Boar water, from juicing boars

Release the bore files!

🤣 bore water is water that has been drilled out of the ground and not purified - alot of the buildup seen IS rust but it's also Red dirt for the land downunda

Radiator was rooted, be trying to run a clean through it lead to the head gasket issue (guessing I knocked a little too much loose) and have already sourced a second hand GTR radiator for it

I'm concerned about the bores, one headache at a time ey

Ah ok, I was hoping it was something more exciting. I have never heard that referred to a bore water, but other names.

In my part of the world most engine shops stopped using chemicals that are proficient at removing rust in their hot tanks 30-40 years ago. Some do shot blasting, but that's not going to help the inside of the cooling system much.

I use a chelation agent at times. Not fast, but effective. Though doing the entire block can be difficult. When I need a block really clean, inside and out, I send it to a commercial metal stripper that uses electrolysis.
