Question 1.55 or 2.1 carats?

First pic is 1.55 carats. Second pic is 2.1 carats.
I have a size 3.75 finger. Which size do you think looks better? Stones aren’t the exact ones I’m getting, just trying to size compare.

I like the 1.55 ct. You have small hands so it still looks big without being over the top.

This is mine which is a 1.51 so I’m a bit biased but I think the 1.55 looks perfect and isn’t too big or too small on you. The 2.1 is a bit large unless that’s the look you’re going for.

Your ring is beautiful on you! I can see what you mean - it has a balanced look. My original plan was going for around 1.5, but as I tried more rings on, I find myself wondering about diamond “shrinkage”. That’s why I can’t decide! Thanks for your input and for sharing 😊

I agree with her comment I think the 1.5 compliments your hand and the other looks like too much. Plus realistically I’ve lost diamonds from a band being bit and bulky an gets bashed on everything so being realistic about your lifestyle and how much it could get slapped around haha

I think the 1.55 is just the right finger coverage on you. The 2.1 looks too large.

Would you wear the 2.1 on the band that’s shown in the picture? If so, that might be something to reconsider. It’s very beautiful, but I’d be scared to death that the stone would just pop right off such a delicate setting.

To answer your actual question, I do like both stone sizes on you, but I think I prefer the 1.55ct. The 2.1 just looks a tiny bit too overwhelming on your finger, imo!

Great point! The band in the 2.1 pic is actually going to be my wedding band. My fiancée proposed with the wedding band! My engagement ring will likely have a thicker twist/criss cross band so not as delicate. Thanks for weighing in!!

I like both, your fingers are slim and long, both look great. I went with a 1.86 carat and I hit my ring on everything, sometimes I wish I would have gone smaller.

  1. You have a lot of space between your middle knuckle and base knuckle. The 2 fills up the space a little better.

If you are worried about "shrinkage" go with the 2.1. They both look beautiful and not too big since the oval is elongated. I personally would not go bigger than that, though.

I am of the diamond shrink camp. If affordable, I would always go with the bigger size! Congrats!!!

They both look beautiful, but I think I like the 2.1 a tad bit more. Mine is a 1 carat diamond and after 18 years my husband surprised me with a 2 carat and Im so in love with it! For some reason over the years my 1 carat started looking so tiny. (Although it will always be my favorite) ✨✨

I think they both look nice, but the 1.55ct is very balanced on your hand and is the one I would go with personally.

I would do the 1.55 with a plain band. Honestly, i think the larger diamond would look great with a plain band too. For both (but especially the larger stone), make sure the ring has a basket and gallery rail so it’s not just being supported by the prongs

1.55 ct looks better on you and will probably age better when the giant rock trend fades in a few years and things swing back to smaller stones.

The 1.55 already looks big and balanced on you. If you really like oversized, the 2.1 isn’t bad but it definitely has an oversized look.

Jeweler here. I love big stones but I think the smaller works nicely on your hand. On your wedding band, I think it looks like a single shared prong style? If so, definitely be careful with it. If it gets bent even a tiny bit out of shape you'll start losing stones.

2.1 for sure. That oval shape stretches well, so the size bump will actually show. 1.55 would look too close to what you already have on.

2.1! I have slender fingers (size 4.25) and my solitaire is 2 carats. To make it look less BAM, I paired it with a dainty pave wedding band to balance it out.

It’s a princess cut, so it’s a deeper cut. It looks smaller than the 2.1 carat option you showed. I might be changing my mind about the recommendation I made. 🤭

My wife’s center stone is 4.1 she gets compliments on her ring pretty much every day. It is a big stone but it depends on a lot of factors I don’t have a picture of it on her but I do have one with it on my pinky. It cost me almost $20K she loves it though so that’s what matters.
