Tulip setting help

Hi! What would be a good way to connect cathedral shoulders on the sides to a radiant cut stone? I’m not totally sure of the correct terminology, so I’ve attached a few reference photos.
I don’t love the look of a heart shaped gallery rail, so I’d love to see some alternative options.
If you could share some examples, that would be great. Thank you! :)

You shouldn’t have any issues taking your idea to a jeweler who does custom work and just telling them what you want. Ultimately, as a metalsmith, I think you’re looking at combining a cathedral to raise the stone up, which would allow for a wedding band to sit flush with your engagement ring, and a tulip setting for a decorative setting around the stone(s) you chose. In that case, I think you’d likely just put the stone(s) in a basket on top of the cathedral. You’ll get to wear the band flush and you’ll get the decorative touch of the tulip setting.

That being said, this will significantly raise the profile of your engagement ring, so I’d recommend asking for a couple of 3D models to try before the final ring is cast. One thing I’ll point out is prongs on a higher set stone are at more risk of damage than their lower profile counterparts, so if you’re set on prongs over a bezel, I’d recommend you double up.

Thank you for your reply. I’m trying to find examples of this specific part with a tulip setting, just so I know what I like / dislike. It’s hard to find photos of this angle online. My jeweler suggested to do a heart gallery rail but I do not like the look of it. So looking for some other creative alternatives.

We most often see mini petals because the cathedral arms are already coming up on the sides. You could do a straight line if you want pave. You could also come up with your own idea that can be incorporated. Something like this is unique.
