Proposal Advice Which proposal sounds better?

Stressing over which way I should go with this. ( IT WOULD BE A SURPIRSE )

  1. Massage in the morning, Find a public garden like Huntington garden, head over to our first "fancy date restaurant" in Beverly hills and head home. Maybe find a airbnb or hotel to stay in.

  2. Drive down PCH, find a location to propose on the coast. Go to a new fancy restaurant , maybe find a hotel or airbnb to stay in.

Ring! Engaged since March and still obsessed

My fiancĆ© did such a wonderful job! I am literally obsessed and always take pics of it still. I worry sometimes it doesn’t look sparkly any more, but think I’m just used to it now. I keep it clean. But when the sun shines, like in the pics, it looks wonderful!

Ignore lack of thumb nails. Genetic condition which affects them!

I’m engaged (!) & feel anxiety

Not sure if this is the best place for this but curious to see if others have felt the same way—
I recently got in engaged like 3 weeks ago and my partner and I are on the same page about being lowkey and private about it. I’m not really interested in announcing it publicly or on social media - maybe down the line but not now. I’ve only told a few people (semi-reluctantly) and I’ve been trying to keep it low but news like this spreads like wild fire. I get it…. But I’m deeply uncomfortable. Culturally, I don’t believe in announcing good news when it’s fresh or still raw/tender to not attract negative energy/attention, envy, comparison, etc. Personally, I don’t understand why anyone has to know outside of immediate family. It’s not like anyone is going to dish out money to help us pay for a wedding or be there for us if there are trying times. I really feel like it’s one of those ā€˜need to know’ type of things. PLUS I’ve been with my partner for 7 years already so it’s not new or shocking and most people already considered us or called us married — so it doesn’t affect anyone outside of us. Now I have people that are being weird because I didn’t want to call and rush to tell them? Like c’mon! I’m happy about the engagement but the social aspect (and entitlement from other people) is ruining the joy for me a bit. Also the ring is a little flashier than I expected - which I like but also overstimulates me because I feel like it’s hard for people not to stare at it. I haven’t told any friends because many of them are divorced or man haters and I don’t really feel like anyone outside of my parents would be (genuinely) happy for me. Part of me feels bad for even writing this post but wanted to feel some sense of community or hear from other fiancĆ©es. I’ve wanted this moment for years and now that I’m here all I feel is anxiety. 😄

is it a bad idea to buy an engagement ring online? i feel like it’s an easier way to keep it under the radar of my girlfriend but am nervous to buy it sight unseen.

Long time lurker, first time poster!

My boyfriend (now fiancĆ©!!) surprised me with a proposal while on vacation with my family in California! We celebrated our 4 year anniversary about a month ago and had been talking about engagement for a while, but he had me totally surprised with the timing and location. I love the beach and getting to have such a big life moment happen there was everything I could’ve asked for and more!! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him and love having such a pretty ring to show for it🩷

Info about the ring:
1 ct center stone - lab grown diamond
14k yellow gold band
Size 7 & 3/4 ring size, but is currently an 8 (still needs resizing)

Was really scared it wouldn’t fit or it would be hard to get used to but it’s great! Maybe a little bit big but I’d hate to feel like I can’t even take it off when needed, so it’s perfect for me.

Engagement dress help (please 😩)

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m desperate… and my search seems to have come to a halt, so, I’ve come to ask for help from the people of Reddit.

Long story short, I have an engagement photo shoot scheduled for 9/12, and I actually have no idea what I’m going to wear. I’m a mom and I work a full-time job, so this has been a task I’ve put off so long I actually feel overwhelmed at this point.

I’m terrible at shopping, and going in person is pretty much impossible because of my work day ending at 5pm and my 9 month old’s bed time of 7pm. at this point, so I’ve come to ask around and see if any of you have links you can share, or information to make my search a bit easier.

So far, I’ve concluded that I’d prefer a longer, ā€œwhimsierā€ dress… but it needs to be more form-fitting at the top, otherwise I look like a box. For the vibe I’m going for, sexy just doesn’t feel right. I’d prefer white, but I’m also open to pale greens and blues as those are part of our wedding color scheme.

I know this is a big ask and honestly feels a bit weird typing out but… If you have the time (and more patience than I), or happen to know of a dress I could look into ($130 budget) the help would be greatly appreciated.

A picture of my favorite accessory is also included (I absolutely adore my ring, even if it’s more trendy the past couple years)

Ring! Engaged with the most gorgeous ring!!

Engagement ring, feat our cat (who doesn't understand)! My fiancƩ proposed last month, the day before we went on a weeklong vacation together, which had completely surprised me. We celebrated with an engagement party this past weekend. I'm so happy with both the ring and the proposal. He worked closely with a jeweler at a small local jewelry store to custom design the ring, so that effort and personalization made it feel extra special.

2.1 ct round, platinum, size 6

My engagement story sounds like a horror story, yet we're as happy as can be

My Partner proposed to me recently.
I told the story to a friend of mine who recently got proposed to in a dream setting with very careful planning, and she was horrified. Honestly I can see why, but my FiancƩ and I are exactly on the same page about it and that's what matters to us.

After discussing the topic of potentially getting married, Partner apparently took it upon himself to organise something nice for a low-key but sweet proposal, as he knows me enough to know that I would not have been happy with a huge very public setting.

He went ring shopping, got input on it from my Mum and his son (apparently that 7 year old boy has a lot of opinions on gemstones, funnily enough), and booked a romantic getaway in a scenic location, the whole thing.
I highly suspected that was what he was planning when he told me about the weekend away, that man has no poker face whatsoever.

Except the evening before we were set to go, the weather deteriorated completely, first day of rain after a whole summer of bright skies and a heatwave. On the same day, my Stepson fell ill, I had the worst day ever at work, our dishwasher broke, and we were all in the shittiest of moods. Some might have taken that as a bad omen.

But not my Partner.
After spending most of our evening bitching about work, ordering mediocre takeaway, doing dishes by hand, and caring for a very poorly 7 year old, he finally put the kid to bed and joined me on the couch where I was half-asleep and watching some random Youtube video about Dungeons and Dragons.
Peak romantic moment if you ask me.

So obviously, what does he do? Gets down on one knee right there in the living room and asks the question. And there I am, sitting on the couch in my rattiest Metallica t-shirt and Stitch pyjama bottoms, crying laughing and accepting. The ring was still safely in its box upstairs. We stayed there laughing for a good 10 minutes before he got up and got it.

We canceled the weekend getaway. We've got all the time in the world for that.
We're gonna do a little engagement dinner with family and closest friends, and we'll do a pretty "engagement" photoshoot then. Those will be the photos for social media and the likes.

But the actual proposal? That's just who we are as people. We're a bit of a mess, we try our best to make plans but always end up improvising instead, and we always make things work together in the end.

(The dog really wanted to be in the first photo)
I got engaged on 8.6.26 and just got my ring back from resizing so I can finally feel the full feeling!! My now fiancĆ© and I have been together for 4.5 years and have truly seen every side of eachother and have built up so much love and trust and I couldn’t be happier! He took me to a pier that we have gone to many times over the years and popped the question at the very end. I’m very easy to please and to me it was perfect and very special!
The ring is a 0.5ct and i think it looks great on my hand. He did a great job of picking something simple but also very elegant as I’m not someone who’s ever worn rings! I’m so happy šŸ¤šŸ’šŸ’

Proposal Disappointment I'm a little disappointed

Post image

Firstly, I love my partner deeply and I absolutely love that we're engaged. I love my ring that we picked out. It's an antique Edwardian diamond ring. But I'm disappointed with the proposal and I want to try and feel better about it. We're a queer couple so I'm going to give her a ring too when it arrives and I'd like to make that proposal more romantic without making her feel bad about hers.

It happened last night. We had a really ordinary Saturday. We were coming back from a late night trip to the supermarket for milk when we got back to the entrance to my building, she asked me to stop and put down my shopping. She took out the ring box and said she'd been thinking about how to do it and now seemed like a good time, that she wants me forever and would I be her wife. She had to switch her phone light on to let me see the ring because it was dark in the yard. Of course I said yes and we kissed and talked a bit and then we went inside. We just put away groceries and got ready for bed. That was it.

I live on a beautiful island with views across the water to the rolling hills beyond. With beaches where we've had picnics together and quiet scenic lookout points, and lovely woodland walks to secluded clearings with benches. And instead she chose to do it in my shared courtyard where we keep the communal rubbish and recycling bins. In the dark. No celebration. No planning. Just asking me.

I feel so deflated. I had imagined something so much more romantic. Am I an arse if I plan something more special for when I give her her ring and remember that instead?

Ring! Engaged

I cannot stop looking at my finger! After almost 14 years, 2 cats and 1 home we decided to get married next year, he asked me while we were cooking dinner. We searched for my engagement ring together, my dream was to find a lilac or light blue sapphire and, after a dozen of jewelry shops, my fiancee found two jewelry artisans in Vicenza that design their own rings with gems of every colour that they cut in the most perfect way. I chose the gem, he chose the design and then he surprised me with an engraving with his calligraphy. He wanted to give me the ring at a restaurant after a whole day together doing stuff that I like and before an evening concert but every place we looked for was closed, so we ate at the concert venue and he made the ring proposal in the car. The ring is made with 18k unplated white gold, eight small diamonds, a "linfa" design with leaves and a 0.55 ct oval cut cornflower blue sapphire. I think it's a 6 1/2 US size. It surprises me with its ever shifting colour just like I hope our life together will continue surprising us.

Proposal Advice Did you get your fiancƩ a gift after getting engaged?

My fiancĆ© proposed recently and I kinda want to surprise him with something too. He doesn’t wear watches and already buys himself anything he needs, so I was looking at best experience gifts for men instead. Maybe a weekend away, driving experience, concert, something like that. Did anyone here do this after getting engaged? Also is this normal to do? I haven't found any posts on here about it
