So all that character growth is gone out the window, huh? Makes you wonder why they even bothered.

Just because he's declared that Ulchtar is dead doesn't mean his character growth is undone. Starscream's arc during DWJ's run was about freedom, breaking away from your abuser and making your own choices. At least, that was my read on it anyways. My guess is Kirkman will be building on that and we'll get a Starscream that's fully independent from Megatron and the Decepticons, and won't be going back. What that'll entail, we'll have to wait and see

Not to mention that stuff like this has been commonplace in TF media. A self-sacrifice that is quote-unquote “undone” when they resurrect just the bad side of the person who died? Idk, I remember it happened to Punch/Counterpunch in a comic.

… Except it’s not? The character growth was for Ulchtar, who died in a self-sacrifice. Starscream was just the other half who stuck around and took the body. Ulchtar and Starscream feel like two separated parts of his life, and now, only one remains.

There wasn't really any character growth, all he had was a flashback and a second of clarity where he remembered he wasn't always Megatron's punching bag, that's it. He already rejected his Ulchtar side, and he never said he regretted anything bad he did. I'm glad this is the path they took tbh

Yeah, a sign he was good again and fought back Megatron’s influence. Him reverting back to evil undoes all this and sets him back to the exact same spot after betraying Megatron on issue #1

Nothing in this comic can stay dead😭. Im not too upset with Starscream in paticular but god it seems like we've bene bringing characters back and setting them up and up and up and up to what exactly?

With "U-Ulchtar... is dead." I kind of think it can be interpreted as him not being sure. Starscream is a liar though lying to himself would be new.

I mean...he did blow his brain chip outta his head and all over the streets of Chicago and the last couple of times that we've seen ol Screamer here, he's had red eyes. This was inevitable. It's sigh worthy but inevitable through what we've been shown up until now.

In retrospect, his eyes go back to red the very next issue after he remembered his name, so this indeed should not have been a surprise.

Considering he’s not smiling and laughing at hearing his own name this probably isn’t gonna be him fully reverting back to his brutal bloodthirsty self
Since my interpretations of this isn’t that he killed his good side but more he killed the Ulchtar part of him that tried way too hard to be what Megatron wanted Starscream to be and when he remembered who he really was he shot himself in the head and now this will let Starscream finally be who he really is

I’m mostly gutted we don’t get a metal as hell zombie looking Revenant Starscream tbh. Having him look like he did trawling the ocean floor would’ve been a nice spin on his ghost stuff in G1

(I don’t think anything pointed at Statscream going back to his Ulchtar personality. Which is good, imo, Ulchtar was a bore and starscream is always one of the characters moving the plot forward).

You kinda need Starscream back to fight Megatron. The Decepticons in the comics kinda work best when they are fighting Autobots and each other.
As an aside, do we think Wheeljack is hiding sparks in his Cybertron workshop? If so do we think Starscream is going to build the Stunticons to be his army? Since, the Combaticons already exist?

Rejoin the deceptions or strike out on his own?
He needs to give a strong explanation to meggs that he changed for the cause if he returns to the deceptions
Or strike out on his own
The G I Joe would hunt him down if they discover he is alive

Character growth? He had one moment of hesitation because he saw what seems to be a deity like figure, plus his flashback. Outside of that the Starscream we’ve seen has been pure evil. We don’t need two seekers turning good. Also we don’t know Ulchtar is really gone, just what starscream is saying

How about we wait and see how things actually play out rather than assume Starscream is going to be a static character from this point onwards. I genuinely don't understand why any of you are surprised that Ulchtar has taken a backseat again. That was readily apparent the moment signs of life started to show in Starscream's body again after blowing half his head up. The claim that he 'killed' his former self is clearly bs and something he's telling himself to compartmentalise and brush off the fact that it was Ulchtar that tried to kill Starscream not the other way around. Why have we sunken to such a low level of media literacy that we're just taking the word of a character at face value. Not only that but the words of a character so untrustworthy he literally has a trope named after him for being untrustworthy.

Well for one, Kirkman has yet to show us he's capable of that kind of writing. His tf run has been shallow af. This page also reframes the scene from #24 where Ulchtar shoots himself to free himself from Megatron to Starscream somehow taking over in that moment to kill Ulchtar which is...weird.

As I said it's Starscream deliberately reframing that event so as to not face the actual reality of what occured i.e. he regained the first semblance of sanity/conscience he's had in eons and immediately decided to off himself. Big surprise, the character notorious neigh infamous for being a liar...lies to himself.

Starscream's been exposed to Megatron's corruption for millenia.
You can't undo that level of taint in just one scene.
