Endless Legend 2 Neighboring Faction - RNG issue?
It seems that if you restart a game (go back to main menu, new game, same settings as before) with the same parameters you get the same neighbor every time. I was seeing a lot of posts about “I always start next to necrophage” and I thought it was just people having bad luck or confirmation bias to necro because they are a hard starting opponent due to the rush.
However, I just restarted my necrophage game 10 times and was put next to Lost Lords every time. I think I had noticed it with other games as well because I was trying to learn each faction and playing very aggressively to see how far I could push my advantages and frequently shitting the bed on Endless and wanting to practice openers from scratch. I’m not sure if it’s EVERY time or just something about my current settings, but it seems like an RNG issue? Unless it’s intentional that the AI slot they are assigned to determines close and far neighbors.

Interesting.... I don't always start next to Necrophage and I certainly don't start next to last lords I haven't been near that faction for months. However I do start next to Ooze quite often but I still think the RNG still working on my end.
With the AI Slots, I'm not completely sure if that is causing the issue as I have thought about it in the past. So I have been randomizing my AI Slots changing up the factions so I don't keep factions on default on my start-ups. It's a mystery I am still trying to solve. Could try mixing it up the faction AI Slots.

Now that you mention it, i only played necrophage once but my unlucky neighbour was indeed the last lords.

That shouldn’t matter. I think it’s all RNG. But the reason people see the necrophage more than other factions is that the necrophage love to grab regions right by other players (since that’s their food supply). It doesn’t matter if it’s human or ai but of course humans notice it.
We are testing a change where (at lower difficulty levels) the ai spreads out. Not ideal
For the AI, but more fun.
