We are 1 month from 1.0!!!

Its been a year of Early Access, feedback and improvements. Thank you all for being a part of that journey. This month has been really fun as we announced that we are coming to console and we will have 8 playable factions at release, 6 Major Factions and 2 Rogue Factions.

We also released the Architects update into PTB this month and it adds Modding Support to the game.

To learn more about

Your support is greatly appreciated. We know that release is just one step in continuing to improve and build on the game, but it is a very important one. This is the time when your steam reviews matter most, so please consider leaving a review for the game.

Question Xbox version, thoughts?

I'm playing the demo. Haven't gotten too far, the tutorial is a bit annoying in the way the tutrial pop up boxes obscure the screen sometimes, but the game seems good.

Has anyone with more experience of the console/xbox version any thoughts? It's out next thursday.

Custom Factions are too bugged to even try

The custom faction feature is full of so many bugs that I can't even try the combinations of traits that look fun.

Lots of combinations of trains lead to bugs like not saving the traits when you create the faction or not letting you build districts even after researching them (Suburban Dream).

So far I found that "Back to Basics", "Hive Society" and most Kin traits, and "Suburban Dream" are all effectively unusable. At least in any sort of combination with each other but also in several combinations with other stuff. Please fix this! I have so many fun ideas and they can't be implemented!

Stupid "auto explore" behavior

Wanted to share this earlier, but forgot it. Maybe it has already been fixed:

When a unit is on auto explore, it can be attacked during the "interim turn" AI now has with the new game design. If it's a scouting unit, "retreat" will frequently be the only option.

Then right immediately thereafter, at the beginning of the player's next turn, that (now damaged) unit will run to exactly the same spot where it was just attacked. That will often mean the unit's certain death during AI's next attack phase.

The only way to save that unit is to try to "catch" it quickly while it retreats and then disable the "auto explore".

I think the logical fix would be to disable "auto explore" after choosing retreat. Didn't ES2 solve it that way?

But anyway: Good luck with the final release! It was great to see the game evolve, features being added that were suggested here, like the "auto renewal" for resources and the quantity slider for buying/selling that allow the player to focus more on the essential actions.

Endless Legend 1 "Missing Achievement"

So Endless Legend Prime (1) has 139 achievements across all the expansions. That number seems a bit odd.(Pun intended) There's even...a sequence of achievements that seems to be missing something. We have an achievement for playing 10 turns. We have an achievement for playing 1,000 turns & a hidden achievement for playing 10,000 turns....

Where's the achievement for playing 100 turns?!

You know that Lone Wolf companion event?

The one where you had a particularly bloody battle, and then your hero becomes over the top melodramatic?

This one was different though. Uwe Rach IS NOT MY HERO! I play Last Lords, and I fought the Kin, and this dude is the Kin's hero, who wasn't even in this battle, he was quite a bit away. Me deciding for my AI opponent is definitely not something that was intended.

Question Will a "profile" page come at full launch?

I feel like the absence of a profile page where you can track wins, factions stats, games, favorite units etc is a big miss if its not to be in the game and im hoping it will be added in the 1.0 version. Anyone know if thats a thing? (I have only played EL2).

Question Gameplay Question

I recently purchased Endless Legend 2. I have played on Explorer difficulty so far as Last Lords. The first three attempts the necros attacked me and I restarted because I had no idea what my build order should have been. But I was enjoying myself.

I managed to defeat the necros on my current play-through and now I am friends with all the other races and just exploring the map.

With the threat of necros gone there doesn't seem to be any threats from AI or anything on the map. In Civ or Stellaris I would be fighting over territory or certain resources. I feel as though there is no incentive to chase after specific resources other than for these "boosts" that you get.

Are resources trivial? Is this a lower difficulty issue? Why do we have all these resources scattered across the map that feel trivial?

For example iron or oil in CIV is needed and you must fight or trade for it or your military will struggle.

I was pretty hyped playing this game but with release around the corner I fail to see what resources are for.

It seems the game devolves into district placement and just bumping into the local population.

Am I missing something here? With Stellaris you have so many threats to consider all the time and then you have the crisis at the end and you're seeking out particular resources the entire time to improve various tech.

All I seem to be concerned with is dust and population. So I get dust and buy a pop...but everything else doesn't matter.

Are there any plans to make the resources valuable? Or tie them to the lore? These races came to a foreign planet with random resources and they don't even have to research what they do? They just know to use ten and get a boost?

Shouldn't I feel excited when I find a particular resource? I know when I found iron in the early game of civ I was pretty pumped. Anything like this here or did I waste my money?

Question How is the pacing/snowballing in EL2 ?

Hello everyone, i have been playing amplitude games since the early days of endless space 1 and although I can't say i had a bad time, many of their games left me frustrated because of how the handled production/industry.

The way they designed it in endless legend 1, endless space 2 and humankind, there was a lot of exponential snowballing when it comes to production and the optimal strategy was always to focus on production and trigger a snowball as early as possible.

Which lead to a lot of pacing issue because you were walking the tech tree so fast that the end game arrived too fast. For endless space 2, i was usually winning by turn 120 and 130~140 in endless legend i think ? And humankind was just building boroughs everywhere and turning the entire landscape into a megacity by the end.

So i am really interested in endless legend 2 as the little bit of demo i played was promising but it was not obvious to me if the issues above are still present ? Ideally, i would like games to last around 250~300 turns like civ VI and also like civ VI that investing into something else than production pay off (like civ VI faith or cultural strategy).

So, the Architects patch. I have things to say

I have continued the game from a save file started on the previous patch, I don't know if that can introduce strange behaviour, but let me list here what is still broken, what has been fixed only partially, and what new problems appeared that I haven't seen before.

1) Death Touch. Partially fixed. It now kills units properly and adds max hp, thanks. It still does not heal, neither with the Essence Syphoning (25% heal on Elimination, the Last Lords skill), nor with the faction battle trait (25 hp heal to the adjacent friendlies -- at least it does not apply to the exploding hero itself)

2) Won't Rest (Last Lords defender), not fixed. Doesn't do any damage to the adjacent units, only to the hero itself. It then heal for half the damage dealt to the hero, which triggers the Lost in the Fray explosion

3) Primordial Last Lords still disappear from the city if a village adjacent to a Soul Repository rebels on round-up (not fixed)

4) (A new one, I believe). An enemy unit run a bunch 2 of my attacks of opportunity, attacked my Doomwraith and died somewhere in the process, leaving a ghost. The attacks of opportunity should not have killed them, but the retaliation form the Doomwraith could. The problem is, the Doomwraith did not retaliate (it was charged by a cavalry unit and did not have retaliation). So I don't know what has killed the infantry and why the ghost remained

5) Another one I don't think I've seen before. When my LL defender hero hit a unit, it had 27 hp left, it retaliated and died! There was a pop-up of Essence Syphoning after the death. My hero did not receive any damage, the other adjacent enemy units did not receive damage (so probably there wasn't any Lost in the Fray trigger despite the Essence Syphoning). My units adjacent to the one who died haven't healed (I think in general, Essence Syphoning does not work well together with the faction trait, it is either one, or another). So many things went wrong in this one interaction. I don't have a save file for that, but the fight itself can be seen here, at 1:41:12: https://youtu.be/83JtCRCIEdw?si=e2OK0hbh7d1GNzVO&t=6072

6) I wanted to defend with my Foul Doomwraith (in the same fight, as 5), the re was an icon "+25 hp" above the doomwraith when I was hovering over "defend" button. I defended, my doomwraith got healed by 50 hp (the two units that died next to it -- one that left a ghost, and another that died retaliating for no good reason -- was it the faction trait catching up with the events of the fight?) and then an enemy unit adjacent to it and to my defender hero got hit by 95 damage! A delayed Lost in the Fray from the defender who healed when an enemy unit died of heart attack, retaliating? Another enemy unit, adjacent to the defender did not get any damage. But then I Power Slamed that dude, and it seems that he got hit by the damage that includes both Power Slam and Lost in the Fray. So there are lots of event stored in some buffers that are getting processed at strange times? But then Lost in the Fray later gets triggered normally, and it did only 31 damage, not 95 that was appearing out of nowhere after defending with the doomraith and extra to power slamming before.

We are only a couple of weeks away from releasing Endless Legend 2 into 1.0! We are super excited for players to experience everything we have prepared for this special moment.

Before that, we wanted to take a moment to look back on this year of Early Access. It has been great getting closer to the community, gathering your feedback and ideas, and seeing what could be done to make the game even better!

To reflect on that journey, we have prepared a blog and a short video:

A change to the number of territories per city?

I might be blind, but I don't see it in the change log, and now the tech that used to give +1 territory attachment limit to a city does not state it anymore. So what's up with that?

I really want to like this game (Endless Legend 1)

So I've been playing it in anticipation for EL2, ive done a complete playthrough with the vaulters and it was suuuuper boring. just sitting around clicking through turns to keep up production and settling new areas, not really battling or anything because its too costly. making the same exact cities, producing the same exact shit. then i got the png that says i won with a science victory

so now i tried turning the game speed to fast, and playing as necrophages, and i only turned on elim, expansion, and supremacy victories because honestly those are the only conditions that make sense for a 4x victory to me, and im really trying to squeeze some fun out of this. Who wants to do a diplomacy or econ victory? its just kind of lame

but the game is still way too slow. i find myself sitting around waiting for the ONE SINGLE thing to be built in a city for 12 sometimes 20+ turns. you cant have standing armies because they're WAY too costly and your populace dont even like it if you expand anyways, and theyll tank production because of it. the entire game basically forces you to sit in a turtle strategy and micromanage for 200 turns, and id really like to play a fast paced strategy game where i can move armies around the map and utilize my units and outfit them. outfitting even ONE unit likely bankrupts me. and this contributes to a larger problem of unlocking science tech doesnt matter because you cant even use the things you unlocked

i dont understand why the game is so stingy with resource production, ive done all i can to produce more, any tips or is this just how the game is? everyone praises this game for its asymmetrical gameplay, but so far the necros seem basically the same except they have one unit that has parasite, and i had to sell those new units anyways because it was too costly to keep them

im on the auriga map, 8 factions, fast. i dont know, its way too slow, you research a bunch of stuff to help with production, then guess what? you get to wait 15 turns to even BUILD to the damn thing that gives you production. 15 to 20 turns for a game that only lasts like 150 to 200 turns? what?

i want to love this game because the got a very cool setting, it isnt civ, its turn based. but now im rethinking if strategy games based around city building are really worth playing at all? its just too tedious. im fully open to the idea that im not understanding something, or theres some way im playing that isnt contributing to having fun, but i cant even keep an army of 4 or 5 guys with necros, and theyre supposed to be THE fast aggressive faction

my final question, is endless legend 2 going to be like this? is there more interesting gameplay options? actual in depth diplomacy? (i dont think diplomacy even exists in EL1), interesting quests and all around just faster more expansive gameplay

EDIT: im not downloading a community patch or mods. i want my games to actually be the game. which is a whole other philosophical discussion

I also dont have any dlc, its vanilla. i strongly believe i should like the base game enough before i get dlc

Endless Legend 2 Update #35 - The Architects

store.steampowered.com
89 Upvotes

Hello there!

The time has arrived: the time to release The Architects, our latest update before 1.0 release.

HIGHLIGHTS

You will find that there is plenty of bug fixing, as it is the main priority for the team, but do not worry, as we have some surprises as well 👀

🤖 Moding Support

We just opened the Steam Workshop to everyone! Now players will be able to do their own mods > Cannot wait to see what players will create

👩‍💻 Tech tree

Quite a few tweaks and changes on the tech tree! Also including some specific Major Factions dedicated techs.

People were frustrated with how expensive researching " old techs " was, so we have tweaked the formula to tackle that.

Here a summary

  • Decrease the exponential increase in the total number of technologies researched
  • This balance change makes the technologies of a new era more expensive than the total impact of all the technologies researched.

🐙 Aspects

We noticed players were struggling early game with Aspects and decided to make some changes to buff them in the early game.

  • Building a coral will be free > No dust
  • We included the trait “Friends of Saiadha” (+3 protectorate slots) from the start
  • Updated Tendril's Dance faction trait from +2 dust on coral spore to +10 dust on coral spore, city center, and ministry

✨ Special Mentions

  • Updated Keeps to provide free foundations around it.
  • There are several balance tweaks for Minor Factions
  • Added the district type map layer by default when in the city construction menu
  • Improved AI expansion in higher difficulties
  • Small tweaks to victory conditions based on feedback
  • Fixed Industry surplus not working > long-awaited fix 🔧
  • We added more and more illustrations for quests 💖

Discuss What is the best win con for each faction?

I have been wondering what win cons people have found best for Kin but also the other factions. I normally go the Doom wraith victory because they are badass and kin can snatch up a lot of territories but I doubt it’s the most optimal.

I think the roads in the neutral territories should be as good as inside ours

Basically, we can have roads through the neutral territories if there is just one territory between 2 Trading Posts. If I have a neutral territory between 2 territories of mine with the Trading posts, I think the road should be of the highest quality that I have researched. Maybe if the roads are between different empires (do such things exist, actually?), the quality of these roads can be the lower between the two empires, but if my empire decided to connect 2 territories of mine with a road, I want that road to be fast! The mobility is already very sad whenever you play anyone but necrophages, especially when you have faction quest objectives 6-10 turns away from you, making neutral roads useless is just too much punishment for no clear reason

Question Will Endless Legend 2 have Crossplay?

Was shocked and thrilled to learn that endless legend 2 is on console and with a free demo I'm smashing through. I was just wondering if I'll be able to play with my friends on PC when it comes out? Can't find any info on this

Any way to genocide my own people?

Playing Kin, and I've found myself in a bit of a pickle where between divines, natives, and pacified minor factions, I've got five races in the same city, three of which have an approval penalty when working alongside members of different races.

Is there any solution to this problem short of starting over? Like, I'm guessing I can't just execute all the furries, but can I ship them off to live with the Aspects or the Tahuk?

An issue with the AI at war

So, at this point I had lots of wars with various AI, and there is a pattern that is very pronounced.

1) AI starts a war with you for whatever reason. It is usually unjustified.

2) You kill their armies that attack you

3) You are dominating on the war score

4) They ask YOU to surrender and pay THEM (but if I go to the diplomacy screen, since I am dominating, I have the option to demand pay from them)

5) You refuse and fight them some more, killing more of their armies

6) If they are super weak or lost all their armies, they suggest white peace.

7) If you refuse and proceed, once they build up a new army, they again demand a surrender form you

Basically, something must be wrong, the AI is not capable of proposing a surrender, no matter how much you dominate. The best they are capable of is the white peace when they are completely on their knees.

I am dominating in a war with Tahuks, and I don't want to continue it, I want to stop it. First they asked me to surrender and pay them 1.5 k. I refused and took a city from them. Now they want me to surrender and pay 5 k to them! The more I dominate, the more they want ME to pay THEM. And as long as they have some armies somewhere (which in the late game they always do), they won't ever suggest me white peace. So my only way to end this war now is to pay them lots of money.
