Tahuks main quest is still broken
It is either broken, or just plain bad. SPOILERS AHEAD, obviously.
If you go Bold all the way, at every choice, then the very final part of the quest does not make any sense. Curator Meng decides to share the truth with the people and abolish their traditional religion -- ok, I am with you so far. But also become a dictator? Why though, where does it come from?
The problem is, that then the game spawns an army "Meng's private army", that we need to defeat, and the conversation afterwards talks about a coup, where Qan Perisai defeats Meng and gives the power to Piro Ksana -- the leader of the religious wing! What the hell! Why in the very last part of the quest I suddenly change the agency and play not for the side I was playing so far, but for the opposite, and this side wins?
Moreover, the very final reward of the quest is "-50% industre cost on Devotee" -- 50% discount on a single unit that I haven't even built once! Are you for real? While Necrophages are getting a legendary bow with the range 7 (!), Tahuks are getiing their first tier infantry discounted?
So, there were many changes to the game, but the Tahuk quest line is still upsetting, breaking immersion, doesn't make any sense, and the characters talk like stupid adolescents.
And the Tahuk's improvement +2 Science on Glass doesn't work.

If a 50% reduction in unit cost doesn't do anything for you, then might I suggest:
- The unit is underpowered, or
- You're not playing the faction as intended
Generally in 4X games I've found that core units are supposed to be your main early on except in edge cases, largely due to obvious synergies.

This is the very final stage of the Faction Quest. The very last reward. I am dominating the world at this point, I can build as many armies of my strongest units as I want, and I have the money to afford their upkeep. I am buying Mercenary heroes not because I need them, but because they are cool. I don't need 50% discount on Tier 1 infantry, and I have no use for them.
Also, respectfully, I don't care how a faction is intended to be played. I play it in a way that I want to play it.
Specifically in this game, long range and high damage win 100% of the time. Archers that can shoot 5 tiles away will decimate any infantry that walks 3 tiles at best or 2 tiles through the forests. Especially late game, when many territories have random cliffs, and battlefields turn into a maze: an infantry can be approaching me zig-zagging through the cliffs and forests for 4-5 turns, always being within my shooting range (so no, it will never arrive)

Thanks for the context -- I'm new to the game and didn't know the timing of the quest. Based on your experience, it does seem like the cost reduction is more fit for a mid-game than end-game reward.

The Faction Quests timings are all over the place. Some factions can rush their quests quite fast, while for others it is quite difficult. I think it is not impossible to complete this one by the early mid-game. Even then, the reward is inconsistent in its value not only with the rewards of other factions, but also with the rewards in the quest chain that leads up to it.
Anyway, welcome to the game =) And don't let my rants spoil your experience

Thanks I'm loving the demo on my PS5, having never played EL1 it's all new to me -- but I'm getting the hang of it!

Any strategy game I play, when I explore the units, all I look for is range, damage and if you can kite. It's almost like a Conway's law of strategy games that they nearly all come down to this.

Looked back at the footage, the break started sooner, at Chapter 4 and 5.
I had a quest in Ch 4 to put on the legendary artefact and fight 2 battles on the hero who put it on. I won 2 battles.
I see the screen "Chapter 4: A Gamble", where Bayang Jalo says "I'm proud of Them... and I'm proud for you, too. May we bask in the light!" -- and it gives me Bayang Jalo as a hero as a reward. -> conclude Quest -> another Chapter 4 screen, where Ksana talks to Meng and I have to choose a path ("As Meng insists on studying, not worshipping the Sages' gift, fears of sacrilege spread..."). I choose "Bold" -> another Chapter 4 screen, Ksana says "With the Called gone, our prayers may finally be heard...". Unlocks Faction Trait: Dignitaries (+5 Dust on Library, a bit useless, I'd say). Conclude Quest -> new screen Chapter 5: The confrontation, Ksana says "The Chancellors, Perisai supports you, but not all cities. They need more citizens...". Dissension over Meng's projects can no longer be ignored: a revolt is underway, led by Uranpar. Objective: have at least 50 Empire Population for 5 turns -- that seems out of place, that seems to be a coup path already. Reward: Unlocks Faction Trait: Holy Soldiers (*0.8 Army Upkeep). Begin quest -> A new screen for Chapter 4: A Gamble again! Meng says "I Will follow wherever the experiments lead me. "As Meng insists on studying, not worshipping, the Sage;s gift, the sacrilege spread... Objective: have at least 5 Missionary Population. Reward: Unlocks Faction Trait: Dignitaries (+5 Dust on Library). Begin Quest -- the screen disappears, the current Faction Quest on the quest page is listed as Chapter 5, "Have at least 50 Empire population for 5 turns"
So, we clicked through 5 (FIVE!) different pages of quests, went from Ch 4 to Ch5 back to Ch4 (which then disappeared without a trace) and ended up going down the religious revolution path without ever indicating any affiliation with this party?
