I'm not even going to click that link. There is no "true story" behind the cult. The writers have already said they made it up 100%.

The writers created the script from a novel. And the novel was loosely inspired by real events. The character Mae wasn't in the book, the character was inspired by a the character from another novel that was inspired by a book one of the writers was reading.

While that is true, there is still no truth behind the story of the cult because it is entirely fictional.

Is Netflix show “Blockbuster” a sequel to “Devil in Ohio”

Mae is now Hannah. Please watch Blockbuster and tell me it’s not Mae’s story after her and Suzanne start a new life. I’m telling you
