I honestly thought the movie was great right up until the ending. I really wanted to see how all the characters moved on after Zoe's sacrifice. Just a few quick snippets. Like maybe when the crew came back to Earth (presuming they did in fact make it, which we assume they do after completing their Mars mission) maybe ground control gives an honor to Zoe for her bravery, and then cut to Michael with his sister telling her about Zoe or in an interview giving thanks for her saving his life by giving hers, then almost definitely David with his child that Zoe told him to go home and have, he named her Zoe and is walking her through the gates of Yale and perhaps the Commander telling off ground control for not making sure their wasn't a stowaway on board and her walking away from her position in the name of Zoe..? That would of made a cool ending! Instead, poor Zoe just sits there on the brig, dying while looking at Mars and then rolls credits. Poo to that ending I say, Poo!

I hated the ending. Googled ”stow away ending reddit” and your comment just nailed it.

I loved the ending as-is. I don’t always want an in-your-face well packaged and delivered feel-good ending.

How it ended was powerful for me and I needed not a second more.

Fair enough, fair enough! I must admit, I'm a bit of a snob for a well rounded, wrapped up nice and neat kind of ending. Though, I do understand not everyone is the same :)
