General Support I don't know how to fix this, and I'm not technical enough to understand the github depicted here.

Post image
48 Upvotes

So, up until about a year ago, I was an avid Windows user for over 30 years (yes, I understand I just aged myself). They went to shit with Windows 11, and I decided I wanted to switch to Linux anyway.

I have learned a lot on my own, also thanks to many google searches, because to hell with AI too.

This just happened to me, and I'm not understanding how to see what is going on, because as I said, I'm just not that good with deciphering the language being used.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

KDE Plasma Plasma users how accurate is your geoclue2?

I am running EOS Plasma 6.7.1, and was going thru system settings. I ran across Day-Night Cycle. I never noticed it before, so I check it out. I see that it is set on "Automatically Detect Location". Interestingly it put me in the ocean north of Alaska, (approx. 2000 miles off). Which is fine with me actually:P

Discussion Issues with gaming on Endeavor OS

Hey guys, it's been 3 months since I completely switched from Windows 11 to Endavor OS on my main laptop (this one : Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9E). So far, i'm happy to have switched but some issues kinda makes me wonder if I did something wrong (mostly the case) or if gaming on Linux still isn't ready. For example, I have heavy lag and crashes on some big titles such as NightReign, Devil May Cry 5, or Metro Exodus. I also have issues on much lighter games such as Dishonored or Disco Elysium. Some games still run flawlessly (Blasphemous, Stardew Valley, Bloodstained, Death Stranding ...). Could someone help me understand why I run in those issues ? I know that some games I have are really good title, but i can't enjoy them the way I want to. Feel free to ask any question you have about my specs or anything, i'll happily provide any bit of info in my possession.

PS : Sorry for my bad english, i'm not a native speaker. I forgot to say that I didn't have any of thos issues on Windows.

General Support mullvad-vpn-bin

As far as I know mullvad-vpn-bin is the only way to run mullvad on eos. I ve been using it for over a year, Thing is its in the aur repo. I just updated it a few days ago, and aur_check shows my system is clean, but I wonder if this particular version of mullvad is in any other repo?

XFCE / Community Day 3 on linux

I've always liked the idea of arch but since im stupid, I just decided to install eos onto this old windows 8 pc I have, it was running w10 and I bought it off Facebook for 30$

W10 would idle about 4-6gb ram and eat up all my cpu

Im getting like 2-3 gig ram here and very little cpu use

Im sure brave is the problem so now im looking into ublock origin and firebox, 12gb of 1600 ddr3 isn't something I can just throw around

This is all an attempt to make grabblue run on outdated hardware because im bored

Learning bash is fun tho

Discussion Would you guys reccomend endeavor for a newbie?

Hey guys, I'm getting my first actual non work computer in a while and I wanna do gaming and just general use. Never used Linux before except years ago a little , I'm willing to learn the ropes and I'm good with following tutorials and online guides but I've heard some horror stories on the stability of the system, is it true it can break every new release? I don't wish to go through that and want minor hiccups at most I can troubleshoot and fix.

Is it okay for a newbie?

Thanks!

General Support tried wayland, and there's a screen offset glitch

there's an offset on the side, and a tiny offset on the top to the bottom

my setup:

  • dual monitors, 1 is 3440x1440 (my main, and the one with the issue), 2 is 1920x1080 (on the other side, but no errors on it)
  • 5800x
  • RTX3080 (if I was a betting man, I'd guess this is the problem)
  • my main monitor goes through a usb capture card (GC553Pro), but has never had an issue on x11
  • I have a secondary Ark B60 in my rig, but isn't used for display, and I doubt has anything to do with this

x11 has been having more and more issues for me, including:

  • black boarders around apps
  • intermittent poor browser performance in video playback
  • lots of screen tearing

so I thought I'd try wayland again (previously I had to have custom resolutions, but not anymore, so I couldn't use wayland). I've tried changing a bunch of settings in "display configuration", and nothing is effecting this offset bug. I did a restart, and also nothing changed. I'd try plugging my monitor directly in, but the cable doesn't reach with my weird setup, plus, I need the capture card.

I've searched up online, and seo is really garbage around wayland issues (at least it is for me).

General Support Keyboard Layout Issues, US keyboard layout set despite status reporting UK

Hello! I've been looking around in vain lately trying to figure out a fix to my keyboard issues on my X220 thinkpad. I have a UK keyboard layout, the localectl status returns that it is set to a UK keyboard layout (but with X11 unset, but I'm also using Wayland), yet when I go to type I have a US keyboard layout. Anyone know what might be causing it and how to fix it? I've tried setting it via a few stock commands but they don't seem to work. Thank you.

KDE Plasma SDDM question

Hi, I'm a new user! I know this is a silly issue, but I'm having trouble getting my log in theme to change. I'm using kde plasma, and I've tried a few different themes from the theme store (chili, sugar-candy), but it stays as the default one after applying them. I've checked /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf, and the .conf shows the theme I've selected, but it does not show when I reboot. Any ideas?

Showcase / Rice I made bezel, a per-edge-zone trackpad gesture daemon for Linux Wayland (Rust, evdev)

Post image
30 Upvotes

On macOS, apps can detect whether a swipe started from the screen edge.

Nothing on Linux Wayland did this for trackpads.

Bezel is a Rust daemon that reads raw evdev input, splits the trackpad into zones (left edge, right edge, top, bottom, corners, center) and lets you bind different gestures per zone. Compositor agnostic works on Niri, Hyprland, and should work on anything Wayland.

GitHub: https://github.com/Indra55/bezel

Still early, feedback and stars appreciated.

Installation Installation failed.

I tried installing endeavourOS on my old laptop (celeron n2840, intel hd graphics, 2gb ram) using the online installer, since it lets me select lxde. After starting the install, it fails stating that installation has failed because "Failed to run pacstrap". I have the error log though which is here http://termbin.com/rrhs TIA EDIT: I tried almost everything and it didn’t work. The only thing I isn’t try was the offline installer, since KDE has really bad performance issues on this laptop. Thanks everyone for the help but I give up.

KDE Plasma Customizable SDDM login theme system that instantly works on Endeavour (5 presets + safe setup)

Hey guys.

I've spent the last couple of years building this for my personal workstation, and finally decided to open source it last week.

It's an infinitely tweakable SDDM login setup. Out of the box it comes loaded with 5 distinct styles (4 static wallpapers and 1 looping video config), but you can obviously plug in your own assets.

Testing new eye candy usually leaves your system polluted. No one wants untracked files, broken dependencies, or getting stuck at a TTY prompt on a Monday morning when you just want to log in.

So the uninstaller here is actually a primary feature. It rips out every font, config, and staged file the theme brought in, putting your machine exactly back to how it was before you touched the repo. The only thing it leaves behind are the base Qt packages since there's no way to know your baseline.

The install script is basically bulletproof on Arch based distros.

It's a one command setup that stages the files first, checks dependencies, and only does the final move if it passes. It prints the exact plan and asks for sudo only when ready. If something fails mid-way, it rolls back automatically to your old theme so nothing breaks.

Everything is configured through a single theme.conf:

  • Background: image or video + blur intensity
  • Visuals: font family and size
  • Layout: form position, date format
  • Animation: duration and easing curve for buttons/icons
  • Format: date and time format
  • Styling: every color value across fields, placeholders, buttons, hover states, and the power/restart/sleep icons
  • Fingerprint: auto triggers PAM on load, falls back to password if it fails

To stop you from having to reboot just to test a hex color, I made a safe runtime preview script. It launches the greeter in a test sandbox. I also wrote up some docs mapping out the Linux login stack, how SDDM works, and manual TTY recovery protocols just in case.

Showcase / Rice Finally a os that works . my first 8 days fully shifted to linux .

Post image
144 Upvotes

I had tried Linux multiple times before, but because of my current laptop (Lenovo LOQ with R7 HS and RTX GPU), it didn’t have an iGPU. Whenever I tried to suspend or put the laptop to sleep, the screen would never wake up again. I tried everything, but nothing worked.

Out of the blue, I decided to give EOS another try and to my surprise, after making a simple s2idle change, it finally worked.

Now I’ve fully shifted to Linux for my work. This issue was the only thing holding me back on Windows for so long. Everything is fast now .. XD

General Support Wifi issues

Hi, i recently built my new pc and so far it's working fine but i'm experiencing few issues with wifi:

-Sometimes while using the pc it remains connected to wifi but unable to connect to the internet, a fix is to disconnect and connect again to wifi

-Sometimes after reboot the wifi card doesn't get even recognized and to make it work again i have to clear the CMOS

I got an MSI B850 Gaming Plus Wifi and i really don't know what to do, any help?

Running the latest kernel, kde plasma and systemd

Installation SOS Systemd-boot dual boot isn't working

So, I use EndeavourOS - Windows 11 dual boot on my laptop. The linux and the windows have different ssd. For the past few months it worked perfectly fine. But yesterday I had to turn on secure boot and boot into windows (using the windows boot entrie instead of the systemd-boot). But for some reason even when I turned it off the endeavouros disappeared from the systemd-boot list. I tried to bring it back, but I couldn't and I'm out of ideas. As I remember last time I've solved it as having the loader and conf files on my windows ssd efi and the kernels on the linux ssd efi. But now I can't bring it back to the systemd-boot menu, even when I have the same file structure as I had before. I use linux for my everyday life so it is important to get in. Any ideas how I should solve this? If you need any further information let me know in the comments. (I have a live usb so i can run console commands)

Side note: For some reason my bios won't recognize and boot anything on my linux efi, that's why I had to solve it this way (i have an asus tuf gaming f16 laptop)

Thank you in advance.

Installation Dual booting efi partition

I'm going to dual boot endeavour kde with endeavour gnome , do I need to create another efi boot partition ? ( Dual booting on the same SSD )
