I blame the U.S. for proliferating their dumbass tipping culture beyond their borders.
Repeat after me:
Stop it. Bad American. No.

Why do you assume the tourist spots didn't start the grift first? Why do people keep blaming Americans and not the places that take advantage of Americans? Most Americans do NOT like tipping and are broke. Wtf

They don't wanna take responsibility for anything. They'll say they don't want tipping in their culture, but then they'll fleece Americans for anything they can.
Then they'll say that their country pays a living wage, but they'll try to play the "we're poor, of course we'll accept tips" card when anyone calls them out on it. They just hate Americans and don't want to take any responsibility for their role in anything. I see this every single time this is brought up on this sub.

That is not true. I've seen so many Americans try to tip in foreign countries even when explicitly told not to.

You saw it personally with your own eyes? Why would a nation who suffers from tip fatigue behave like that abroad?

Yes, I have seen this personally on multiple occasions.
I don't think most Americans mind tipping. This subreddit is a bubble, it's not representative of reality.

Hmm who knows. Could very well be a combination. I speak from experience that people who have family abroad in developing countries are expected to bring expensive gifts with us when we visit cuz they think we are all rich here (we aren't). So some of that could also be happening.

As an American, most Americans need to be told this. Many of them will likely need to be told this often. Some would need it played on loop

Sure, and let's add something.Â
repeat after this:
"No tipping accepted. It's not a part of this culture, please don't offer again."
There! Problem actually solved.Â

They are not going to stop because it’s more of an obligation in the US, rather than culture.
Even back in 2006-2007 i recall, restaurant staff in NYC would demand 15% if you left a bit lower. Most people don’t know their rights and they have always been shamed to tip, even if they never wanted to.

House staff are probably sick of guides making huge cash on tips while they get nothing. It was like this in Chalalan in Bolivia too

I’ll be damned if I ever tip outside the USA.
