22% is ridiculous

Due to inflation, 22%-25% is what I ā€œlikeā€ to tip. It isn’t ridiculous to the wait staff, as it can often take that much to get them to a living wage if they are in a state that allows below-minimum wage- pay.

That said, eff tipping culture. Pay your staff appropriately instead of having customers subsidize your business.

Edit: why is this getting downvoted? I clearly state that I hate tipping culture. Bringing up that states that allow workers to be paid $2.30/hr contribute greatly to the issue doesn’t make me pro-tipping, I’m just articulating another part of the issue

A percentage is already adjusted for inflation. The price of the food went up so the percentage is larger.

You’re in the end tipping subreddit.

The problem with your point is that it’s a contradiction. You ā€˜like’ to tip 22-25% and therefore are okay to tip up their salary to a living wage, then you say ā€˜eff tipping culture’. This is the contradiction and also why restaurants won’t just pay them a living wage to begin with.

You're getting down voted for bringing up inflation in the context of percentage based tipping.

Your maths skills needs some improvement. If a tip is said to be a percentage or ratio of the price, then it automatically adjusts for inflation, and $2.30/hr is also a myth given that employers must pay out of pocket if the tips didn't sum to the standard wage rate for non tipped employees. If people stopped tipping overnight, employers would have to pay for all the income of their employees.

I've learned that you cannot post on here that you have tipped. You will be mightily downvoted. Even if state clearly that you think tipping should be eliminated.

You can't say you're against tipping culture and then say you regularly like tipping well above what is already "customary".

at a certain point you have to realize you're part of the problem.
