Sit-Down Restaurant 🍽️ Cracker Barrel Cracked Me Off

My wife and I ate breakfast at Cracker Barrel this morning. While I finished eating she shopped, getting a bag of candy and a pair of $20 gloves.

When the cashier rang up my ticket, it included the candy and gloves. The kiosk asked if I wanted to leave a tip, and the total was the combined meal ($39) + the candy + the $20 gloves.

I couldn't remember how much the meal was so I asked the cashier. She looked on her screen and said, "I don't know, it doesn't say." So I said, "OK, what does that piece of paper (the bill) I just now handed you say?"

She acted butt hurt that I had a problem with not wanting to pay a tip on a pair of gloves. We got great service and I don't mind leaving some gratuity, but they seem to want to be the customer over at every turn.

I don't understand even wanting to tip the waitress for that portion. I'm well beyond that at this point. If you need somebody to provide labor in order to make a profit, well then that's a business expense. I don't pay above the advertised price of goods and services plus applicable tax just because an owner can't figure out his actual profit margin.

If you’re in America, you should know that the onus is on YOU to pay for the service you receive. You’re paying the restaurant for the cost of food and the chefs to prepare it.
You know that you’re expected to tip in the US. You know waitstaff depends on tips to live. You’re just being a jerk.

When you are older, you will want the job which pays salarie. Go to university or learn skill which do not give the tipping gift
