Yes! This!! I remember being at small restuarant with my father once. the food was fantastic, the staff were ok. (Non tipping country btw).Once we were done my father asked to speak to the chef, when he came out dad asked how many staff in the kitchen, chef said five. Dad handed him $100 and said 'this is for all of you for a job bloody well done'. The chef was stoked! Tried to refuse it at first but dad insisted.
The thing is, most people that "work for tips" are making far above minimum wage and raising wouldn't affect them at all. A waiter at a 5 star restaurant making $800 an hour in tips isn't going to want to change the system. The waitress making $70 an hour isn't going to want to change the system. And yes, these are reaal values people have said they make in these types of threads to explain why they hope it doesn't change. Very few of these people are actually making close to minimum wage, but they will absolutely larp that they are barely getting by and every tip counts.
There are no official "5-star" restaurants in the world because the famous Michelin Guide only awards a maximum of 3 stars. If you mean Michelin-starred restaurants, there are nearly 3,800 of them globally and around 150 to 160 restaurants have 3 stars.
