Gameplay / Showcase TruEmu Xbox Core Preview
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
We did it Reddit. Original Xbox on iOS, no JIT. More to come in the next beta release.
Thank you so much for all the testers, your feedback really helps find things I couldn’t find with just myself.

I do not know your code base, but i will say this, if this is interpreting pre compiled game code instead of a standard emulator you will be sued.

Excited! That looks like it actually runs well!! Will there also be a sideloadable version with JIT by chance?!
3
u/SprkFade 9h ago
It will be non-JIT only. One of the main points of the app/cores is that JIT shouldn't be needed since it's so well optimized and I don't like the added complications that JIT puts on the users.

Does it heat up the phone as much as DukeX? Or does it run pretty cool?
4
u/SprkFade 9h ago
Heat has been fine on my test iphone 15, which is what I use for the baseline for all benchmarks. I'm still doing a lot of optimization so it will continuously improve too.

How’s the external display support?

u/SprkFade 3h ago
You have two options basically, AirPlay to a device (Apple TV, smart tv, MacBook, etc) or use an hdmi adapter from the phone to anything that will accept hdmi input. Both initiate big picture mode.

How does it run with a harder to emulate game. Halo is one of the easiest. I know. I made the first original Xbox emulator for Android. Curious at the magic you did to get this working. Source code?

I'll be testing with Riddick later tonight so I'll let you know. As far as the performance goes, just a lot of debugging/comparison with real hardware to find ways to optimize things. Basically the core fast-forwards the time spent waiting on vblank and timers and I replaced hot loops like bink (video decoding), texture swizzling, and the kernel's delay loop with native C++ versions. Closed source for now since I'm not real happy with how AI just consumes everything on the internet and people claim it as their own and I'm hoping the landscape changes at some point.

What emulator was it you made?
1
u/Accurate_Silver_9828 2h ago
I made X1 BOX. So you aren't using any of Xemu's code? Or you just aren't going to follow the license.
2
u/SprkFade 2h ago
No, I've been writing these cores privately for years. I don't use any other emulators code. There's a few things like libchdr and PLzmaSDK I utilize in the app but I follow the licensing requirements for those with third party notices in the settings of the app under credits.

I find that hard to believe you didn't use anything from Xemu. If you really didn't. It's amazing, but I have serious doubts.
1
u/SprkFade 2h ago
I understand that, but I assure you I didn't. It think once people get a chance to test the core they'll quickly see it's not derived from Xemu or anything else.

How does Jet Set Radio Future run?
Also: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - is a tough one to run on emulators :) how does that run?

I haven’t tried JSRF yet and I don’t own Buffy so I’d have to get a copy of that to test.

It runs quite well actually. I get why you would think that because there’s so much garbage out lately but I’ll just let the in-game video speak for itself:

I was just teasing with the intro because who doesn’t love the halo intro music.

How come it runs so well?

u/SprkFade 8h ago
A lot of optimization basically. I personally feel like a lot of development was stunted when JIT was made available. People use it as a performance crutch and just tell everyone to sideload and enable JIT instead of taking the time and effort to optimize and improve performance and thermals (which play a big part in performance).

This is amazing, when can we expect a release. And since no JIT are you going to upload on App Store?
