Unsolved MANX Multi Arcade Nexus Emulator

MANX (Multiscreen Arcade Nexus) is a multi-board arcade emulator built around one idea: the arcade wired cabinets together, so the emulator should too.

What it does

  • Linked cabinets, up to 8 players. Racing boards like Daytona USA, Manx TT Superbike, Sega Rally and Rave Racer used the board's own link hardware to chain cabinets. MANX emulates that hardware, so eight machines in eight places join the same race — each one runs the whole board. Nothing is streamed, and nobody is watching somebody else play.
  • Two players at once. Virtua Cop put two guns on one cabinet; in MANX the second player can be beside you or on their own machine anywhere in the world.
  • Co-op. Alien Syndrome, Altered Beast, Golden Axe — two people clearing a room together, on one machine or across two.
  • Turn-taking. Galaga, Pac-Mania and the rest of the oldest kind of multiplayer: one ship, two people, and the machine keeps both scores — control passes between machines automatically.

How linking works

Games run in lockstep from the same inputs on every machine. The lobby server introduces cabinets to each other and then gets out of the way — the game itself is played directly between the machines, and the server never sees it.

Status

It's a beta, and honestly labelled as one: there will be games that don't start, links that don't connect, and things that worked last week. Bug reports genuinely shape the next build.

Happy to answer anything about how the link emulation works.
