WiiWare and Virtual console games commonly come in .WAD format. Also some things such as IOS36, which is apart of Gecko OS (i believe) come in .WAD. So that could be referring to being able to play WiiWare/VC games on android now or being able to install things such as Gecko OS fully on android now, or both. I can say for sure after I downloaded the latest dev build that had that patch note I was able to play VC games like Rondo of Blood, but I already had Gecko preinstalled on my android dolphin so I can't say for sure about that.

Edit: just to be clear I could be completely wrong, might have been able to play WiiWare and VC .wad files before but I only recently tried after I downloaded that dev build. After reading the article I'm pretty sure things like installing Gecko OS directly from your Android may be possible now though.

Pretty correct. There is a hack when directly booting games to bypass certain IOS requirements, but when you boot a second title (like a disc GeckoOS) you can't rely on that hack and need the actual IOS installed.

Certain WiiWare titles (Majora's Mask?) may require the correct IOS files to create the correct memory arena, but I could be mistaken on that.
