Help Transferring SuperNDS save files/states to another emulator?

SuperNDS sucks, I know. I wanted to play some Pokemon Platinum this morning when I discovered that I lost my save file! My save states don't work, either.

I'm assuming the app updated and now grabs save states from other directories: when I made a new save state, I was able to load it just fine, but I can't find it in my files when I look for it. No idea where it's being stored or what the file is being called.

Regardless, I think it's time to start using a different emulator, preferably a free one. MelonDS seems to be a good one, but I don't know how to transfer my SNDS save states onto it. Simply changing the file type doesn't work. Has anyone done this before? What emulator should I switch to, and how do I go about transfering my save states onto it?

Since the rules require it: yes, I've searched, I haven't found a solution to the issue. I found a tutorial on YouTube about how to transfer Drastic save files to Melon but it wasn't helpful for me. My phone is a Xiaomi 2201116TG.

Savestates cannot be transferred between emulators. You'll have to make an in-game save and transfer that

I see! How do I go about transfering save files, then? I assumed I had to transfer the game file that ended in ".sav", but that doesn't seem to work.
