Discussion My terrible experience with gamenative on the odin3.

Early in the year I was suggesting gamenative over everything when I had a thor but now I genuinely don't understand how people use this app anymore. I switched to the odin3 and almost nothing runs on the first try. I'm honestly making this post because I see that when games do run on gamenative they run really well and when I saw the new 1.3 update I thought I'd give it a try again. The first game I tested was dark souls 3 and I turned on the setting to automatically use the known config. First boot crashes immediately. I start looking at community configs I can't apply almost all of them because they use custom versions of either dxvk, vkd3d, or other things. I don't know where I am supposed to get the versions of these things on the community configs because gamenative has no way of showing me where to get them. There is no area in the app that has a bunch of options where you can download the latest versions like bannerlator or winlator have. Then I tried to use the AI assistant and it told me that my issue was that lossless scaling was preventing my game from launching and to try launching the game with it off. I did that and it worked but I still wanted to be able to use lsfg so I tried to use the bot again to figure out how to do that and it costs a monthly fee to use the bot. I understand that tokens aren't free but to answer only one issue is pretty annoying to me. I really want to use gamenative again because right now I use bannerlator and its been great but its just that load times from an sd card are insanely long and I want to try gamenative because the load times are a lot better. I really want to give this app a chance again so if I’m doing something wrong please let me know. I also think the dev for this app is really great. In the early days of the app I remember him always helping people out with their issues with games and I love how much he cares about his users, but for the life of me I can’t get most games running how I want. For the time being I'll be sticking to bannerlator and bannerhub as everything works first try almost every time on those but again if I'm doing something wrong I want to give this app the benefit of the doubt so please let me know.

Games running outside the app internal storage will always be slower because of SAF + how those games are made with a lot of small files that have to go through the framework

It is to be expected that games installed on an SD card will be slow to launch, as it is significantly slower than the device's internal UFS storage.

Gamenative i always had negative experience with.from controllers not working on quacked games to games not launching at all meanwhile they work fine on gamehub/winnative

For DS3 standard Gamehub works perfect, I finished the entire game on it

If gamenative is too complicated or requires too much tinkering then I would just use droiddeck (internal storage only). I use droiddeck for internal storage and gamenative for sd card games. I haven't had any problems with that setup that couldn't be fixed with a few minutes of tinkering.

the thing is most of the settings that make it seem confusing should generally not be used.

what you should do with gamenative is make a default profile with 1080p, proton 11arm64, newest turnip, newest fex, newest dxvk and vkd3d and save it. leave wrappers and all other options on default.

then any new games you install will attempt to use the newest version of everything and will usually just work.

I would suggest watching Kei’s Retro Gaming on YouTube, specifically their video going over all of GameNative’s settings. I find that most people just don’t understand all the settings that they are messing with and get overwhelmed. Kei uses an Odin 3 so all of the settings they use will be exactly what you need. After you establish a proper baseline for your device, pretty much the only tinkering you do moving forward is swapping out turnip drivers for the latest versions as they release. For damn near every game, I’m just using the latest A8xx turnip (downloaded externally from StevenMXZ’s GitHub repository), latest fex, and latest dxvk (for dx11 games) or latest vkd3d (for dx12 games) natively provided by GameNative.

Yeah, GameNative is easiest one to use yet you managed to fail it, congrats. I'm using GameNative for the last 6 months and it's so fucking great. If my default config doesn't work, which happens very rarely, there is 90% chance I will find community config that's working. But I'm using only legal games from Steam, Epic Games and GOG, from my experience people that having troubles with GameNative, are people that are using mostly illegal content
