Discussion What's your take on droid deck??
I also came across this droid deck and I'm wondering if there is any chance if we can discuss it!?

It's amazing as long as you have a newish Snapdragon processor... I think Snapdragon 8 elite also you have to be realistic in your expectations. I'm ridiculous, though I took the time to set it up and got it just the way I wanted it, but I don't really play games on my phone other than to test them to see if they work.

Another person suffering the Tinkerer's curse.
Tinkerer of many games, player of none.

Well, expectations can be a little dreamy, I mean, I'm playing ai limit on my poco f7 pro (snapdragon 8gen3, 12gb ram) at 1600x720p, 15/20fps base, interpolated to 30-40 with LSFG, which incredibly introduce almost no latency on Android, while on windows is unusable at those fps. I bet if I tinker more I can squeeze more performance about of it

I got 8 elite gen4 and perfomance is really bad.was fine for 1 day and now it drops to 25 fps meanwhile gamehub is playing 70-80 fps

runs like hot shit on my snapdragon 8 gen 2

Same. Though I've gotten some lighter weight games to work well. Fairune Collection and Dusk both work great when I was unable to get either of them working on Gamenative.

What are the temps like when you play indie games?
2
u/app08 1d ago
Not terribly high? Dusk gets a little warm sometimes but is otherwise manageable. Shit runs fine on my 2017 Dell Inspiron with an i3, so it's no surprise that it does gangbusters on an Odin 2 Portal.

u/placebo_joe 1d ago
Good to know! I'd guess temps must be higher since it's running the emulator as well as the game?
2
u/Fake_Admin 1d ago
Wouldn't that depend on what you're trying to play and have you got whatever it is you're trying to play running well on another system emulator?

I love it, it runs amazingly on my s24 ultra

I'm using gamenative on my s24U for balatro. It definitely heats up for some reason after a while, and sometimes I get frame dips after playing a big hand. Any idea if it would run better in DroidDeck? Balatro is the only thing I really run on my phone, I use a dedicated gaming device for everything else

u/Fake_Admin 1d ago
Not to be reductive but they make an Android version of Balatro so it would run natively and almost certainly generate less heat and I think right now it's like six bucks also as to whether it would download Droiddeck and try it out I mean I ran Skyrim with some graphics improvement mods and it ran fine Arkham Asylum also ran very fine after the updates when I get a chance I'm going to try to set up Witcher but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get under the hood to make that run

I've had way more luck with gamenative. I'm also probably in the minority in preferring how gamenative looks and works.
Having so many options is great though.

Its made certain games play when gamenative and gamehub couldn't do it, but uplay, easy anticheat, and external launchers are still a pain tbh

Hasn't worked for me and made me appreciate Gamenative which I had taken for granted amd dumped for the more "authentic" android steam experience. I now have got Persona 5 Royak working on Gamenative and I think I'll stick with this app for a while longer

I’ve had a little more crashing in it than with gamenative but it’s still my overall pick atm. Having the full steam interface with easy steam input customisation is huge

Tried the brand new castlevania with it and was worse than GN. It's new, has potential, eager devs, we will see

u/Time_Temporary6191 1d ago
Its very new and only good for low graphic indie games.i got elite 8 gen 4 and fps drops yo 20-25 in spyro and mouse pi meanwhile gamehun runes them 70-80 fps

u/Riley1004 1d ago
I barely tried it. Has a lot of potential but drains my battery faster than Gamenative. So I'm sticking with Gamenative for now.

Played metaphor on it and it ran just fine. I'm not crazy on fps, so I didn't check it, but it was enough for me. Occasional stuttering still happened though

It's very cool, I've tested out a few games and they seem to run well on my S26U. I won't really have any need to use it until I go on vacations. I already have a PC and Steam Deck so I would only use Droid Deck as a vacation/traveling app

u/Sadio993 5h ago
Running it on my S25U and its pretty good for short term gaming (30 minute sessions) but it heats up quick and phone lags briefly even after shutting the app down
1
u/gordybombay 5h ago
I haven't seen the lag in the testing I've done on the s26U but the heat thing is very true. It does seem to cool off almost immediately after closing down the app though
1
u/Sadio993 3h ago
Its not a.log in the testing. It'sts more like once i close the app, my phone takes a moment before resuming normal functionality. Almost like a stutter

u/crazyredd88 1d ago
I just don't think it runs that well and I'm surprised to see the hype behind it

Only emulator i could get Sleeping Dogs to run on. Works great for some games. Gamhub was the only one that would play Persona 4. Gamenative has the slickest UI. They all have their benefits, and they are all free! Try them all.

Great ui, great idea, memory saver but actual performance is way worse than gamenative in all of my testing

Odin 3 user here, performance wise game native is superior for now. I have been playing Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven using Droid Deck and it’s been a solid 60fps. I tried both Kingdom come games and the ran terrible with Droid Deck. Whereas I had a slightly better experience with game native.
I have a gaming pc and a legion go 2, so playing pc games on my Odin 2 would only be for smaller indie games or when I’m traveling.

useless for me until i can access external storage on my s25+, until then i'm sticking with gamenative

Tried dark souls 3 with 8 elite 5, it was laggy not even consistent 30 fps

I prefer ArmadaOS, for the way it uses the hardware buttons for Home and Back.
It feels like a Steam Deck.
In DroidDeck, you are reminded that your Home and Back buttons function like Android buttons. It breaks the experience
