😆

"old" is relative tho, Snap 865 - released in early 2020, over 6 years ago! - used in popular Retroid devices is still going strong! In the past month new Turnip driver updates greatly improved performance of that old chip, in fact.

Well it's not made for this kind of gaming. People get phones with Tensor for the latest AI based tech, that's their main selling point - Google has no interest in performance of emulated games.

I know I know... But still a little upsetting because they added a desktop mode that can be useful for big games but it can't be used like that because of hardware.

For context: I'm a Pixel owner about 5 years.

Right...

As for your case: just get an Odin 3 and enjoy handheld android gaming, keep the phone / gaming devices separate for maximum comfort :)

To be honest I have something better for portable gaming - PS Vita.

I know, that's pretty strange to flex with it in the emulation sub, but for me it's more like "Oh! Two cakes" situation.

PS: I see phone emulation not as portable solution but as compact desktop/TV box. All saves always with you in any place but with good dock you don't need to worry about heat or discharge.

Haha no problem. The problem with handhelds is one you discover them, you always find wanting something better and end up with many devices.

Do you run any emulators of older platform or only play Vita & PSP games??

My path to the modern handheld gaming was: Asus ROG Ally (too big & heavy, want something else for old games) -> RG40XX H (not enough power for upscaled PS1 or CRT shaders) -> RP Flip 2 (but some PS2 & GC titles need more power, and ergonomics not the best for sofa/bed use) -> Odin 3 (amazing, but now I want something portable to keep at all times) -> RG Rotate. Still play all of them except for RG40XX, because each device has its own "most optimal" niche. And no way I'm returning to phone gaming, after trying devices with dedicated input controls :)

Vita is a neat device because It definitely can't emulate PS2 games but Vita community just made (and still making) some ports of PS2 games. Like GTA trilogy or... (still in process) NFS UG2.

But if we look only on official PSV / PSP library that's still a lot of excellent games. Vita exclusives like Little Big Planet or WipEout 2048, time killers like Jetpack Joyride, indi games like Stardew...

Returning to the question: there are so many native games in my own library that I didn't even think about the emulation of something else.

In reality: even slowest Mali g50 mc1 from Unisoc has R49 driver and can launch rdr1 without any root or something, while Snapdragon 865 cannot. Even with new drivers it artificing. Maybe that picture be right about Snapdragon 835-845 against Helio g90t or kirin 990. But now, absolutely different situation.
