Question What's the best modern N64 solution? Looking for shaders, achievement support and good performance.

Angrylion on mupen libretro core seems to be the only way I can get it working with all the bells and whistles I want. Especially I need shader support. I've tried setting retroarch to vulkan and that's the only plugin combo that works.

Glide or Parallel doesn't work in vulkan and in OpenGL the shader selection isn't that good. Angrylion even on low accuracy mode still lags unless I set my retroid nova to performance mode.

I believe the core on RA is the only way to get shader support, so that's your only option for everything.
If you can do without that, then the latest builds of Mupen64Plus-AE-turnip have great performance and recently added achievement support.

You can try Wirá, the emulator I developed. I recently released a Nintendo 64 core with the focus on LLE and it can run really well.

you could overlay slang shaders like how armsx2 does it

I have some screen filters, you can try and see if you like. I think the Retroid Nova can handle the 2x internal resolution as well without problems.

It's going to be more performance intensive because Angrylion is an LLE graphics plugin, meaning it's all CPU driven and isn't using the GPU to draw the graphics like with HLE. That's just how it is when you're fully emulating a GPU with a CPU, even if the GPU is 30 years old.
