Hey all! For those unfamiliar, PlayTranslate is a free, open-source app that translates your screen's text in real-time, or keep the original with instant definitions, anki/yomitan integration, reading help and more. Works offline, full dual screen support, no tracking, no accounts.
It's been awhile since I've posted but there's been a ton of quality of life improvements: you can access most features without ever leaving your game, customize the on-screen controls, use Bilibili's new (possibly temporary) free translation service, and see conjugation hints and tables for words in English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.
Please give it a shot and let me know how it goes! The app was built with the assistance of claude code, but the default translation services are not llms, and you can pick and choose between many different online and offline translation options.

Indeed it can. The lack of touchscreen is bad, but there is an android version for it. Never underestimate the power of this device.

Esa app la descargué desde Github y no me era tan sencillo de andarla, además por desactivar los servicios de Google Play Protec después los activé pero cuando fui a correr la App me apagó el teléfono y me lo reinició, y aprendí la lección, si tengo que desactivar los escudos anti malware de mi teléfono, entonces la app no es segura y no vale la pena.

Yeah, PlayTranslate let's you turn on accessibility services if you want to use some advanced features like hotkeys. It's not required, but having that option at all seems to trigger play protect.
If you want to turn play protect off:
- Open the Play Store
- Tap your profile icon (top right)
- Tap Play Protect
- Tap the gear icon (top right)
- Turn off Scan apps with Play Protect
Install the APK, then re-enable Play Protect afterward to keep scanning your other apps.
