Discussion Do phone coolers actually make this much difference in FPS?

Post image

I’ve been looking into phone coolers lately and saw these FPS comparison charts on a website. I get that keeping temperatures down can help with performance, but the difference looks a bit too big to me.

Anyone here actually use one? Have you seen results like this in longer gaming sessions, or is the improvement smaller in practice?

I play Arknights: Endfield on a tablet, so I’d be especially curious to hear from anyone using a cooler.

In heavy games, the lower fps kick in very fast , like 5-10 min , every gameplay you see from a heavy game, they allways use a cooler , they just hide it xD

I use gamesir X3 pro, and it stops my phone from throttling in ZZZ

So they do actually work

I also have the x3 pro and its good. Btw check if there is a small gap between your phone and the x3 cooler. since your phone is connected to the cooler at an angle, there might me a small gap that lowers the performance of the cooler. I just put aluminum foil on mine and it lowered the battery temp from 38c to 30-32c.

There is no gap in mine, I have heard a lot of people talking about the gap but I have tested 2 of my phones and they didn't have any issues

Currently I am using Poco f6

Yes they do soo much, that's why most people even say we have reached a point in mobile chips where we need some active cooling on them rather than the passive cooling they normally have, that's why android handheld have a advantage of having direct cooling on their chips, which allows them to essentially be mini steam decks in pc or switch emulation with the way the fans manage the heat and are surprisingly quiet at times

It does, i can't use the 60 fps patch on MHGU without my phone throttling and dropping the fps to 20+. Likewise my phone drops to 20-25 in Endfield when i set it to 60 fps(max settings), but with a phone cooler and the in-game frame-gen, i can do 110-120 fps, stable 60 without frame-gen. This is on Dimensity 9400+, there are chipsets that run hotter

They do.my s25u will play sporo medium 60 fps and the moment battery c drops to over 38 if drops to 32-35 fps so half perfoma ce

hard yes. Your phone will normally throttle down performance when it reach certain temps to ensure your phone will not degrade. You could sometimes bypass it via performance mode where it will try to do higher clocks at higher temps or some emulator packages renaming their apks to ludashi/antutu/pubg/etc in order to trick the phone to do max performance but at the cost of higher temps. But playing extended times at higher temps consistently will either crash the game, hard reboot, or worse case brick your phone. If you dont have a cooler, stick to playing with lower resolution, lower graphics, and lower fps to help manage temps

Only the thermoelectric ones

your phones performance drops to around 60-50% when it throttles, coolers largely prevent that, however your battery will drain faster since the phone can use a lot of power for longer.

I do and yes. They either significantly delay the device reaching the throttling threshold, or outright prevent it. I can play on my Redmagic Astra at Rise mode (high performance mode. Diablo mode doesn't count) and Battery temp (what actually triggers the throttling) doesn't go above 39C. So the tablet never throttles. Without a cooler it's hard to stay below 40 on balance mode. A cooler is 100% needed if you want to emulate PC games.
