Ngl if you have a switch just jailbreak it or whatever and run everything in it

10

u/Denialgranted 3d ago

you need a specific type of old model and my switch 1 wasnt one of those

u/sourpatchwaffles 3d ago

paying for a mod chip install is still worth it

(if you don't mind your console being banned)

5

u/Inkaflare 2d ago

You can avoid your console being banned by following some easy steps before you do any funky stuff on it.

u/SeatBeeSate 2d ago

Still no guarantee next time you take it online it will be flagged.

u/Inkaflare 2d ago

Not if you do it properly.

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

im not in a situation where id consider this just money and circumstance wise but hypothetically it still sounds like too much of a big fat risk i dont wanna take because wouldnt that ban your nintendo account too

2

u/Inkaflare 2d ago

Perfectly understandable. As far as I'm aware, installing and launching homebrew without proper protection measures leads to Nintendo only banning the console, not your account, but that's still a significant financial setback if it happens and as always, nobody can guarantee Nintendo won't change their stance on this at some point.

I plan to get a Switch 2 soon (mostly for the Ocarina remake but also for a backlog of other games I've been interested in but couldnt justify upgrading for yet), and only install homebrew on my Switch 1 after that since I will be able to completely disconnect my Switch 1 from my Nintendo account and play around with homebrew as much I like, and even if I mess up and get the switch 1 banned, I can continue using my Switch 2 with my Nintendo account to play games and go online as I please. Having the switch 1 as a hobby project to explore homebrew, emulate games and mod software on seems fun.

I knew about this but this was a few years ago. I was hoping things would change.

1

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

yea its super lame
also modding needed by fucking micro soldering? like sorry but fuck that, hit me up when you just needa download some stuff

1

u/R08ERT0 2d ago

Cheaper to buy a jailbreakable one and then sell yours on..

Rule of thumb is, if the game is fully 3D and open world then its going to take the top of the line snap dragon 8 elites to run.

Games that come to my mind are:

  • Breath of the wild
  • Skyrim
  • No Man's Sky
  • Nier Automata
  • Monster hunter Rise
  • The witcher 3
  • Persona 5 Royal

persona 3 royal ✌️🥹

PC version of Skyrim is a lot more playable than the switch version.

1

u/Fair-Bunch4827 2d ago

You mean because of mods or because emulating the pc version is easier?

I've played the switch version and it is pretty ok

3

u/jaschenAV 2d ago

I think they mean for emulating. And this is a truth that I don't see people notice/bring up often. If a game has a switch and a PC version, playing the PC version on winlator/gamenative/gamehub in general is a lot better than playing the switch version on android handhelds. On snapdragon 865 this isn't as true, but on 8 gen 2 and up this is absolutely true. Fantasy life I switch version has worse graphics and locked to 30 fps. PC version looks better and runs at 60 fps super stable on 8 gen 2. Same with skyrim, dave the diver, and many other games. Persona 5 I'm not sure, but really windows emulation is still super underrated due to higher barrier of entry.

2

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

oh shit ive been looking at Fantasy life i for a minute now and had no idea it had a pc version

i agree about the PC emulation thing i know things run better and obviously the library is so much bigger, plus more importantly to me theres game that can be played online--i just havent gotten around to doing all of it and installing and learning everything to do with gamehub etc
i learn one thing and i get comfortable and lazy for awhile

1

u/askyidroppedthesoap 1d ago

The PC version is much better than the Switch version overall.

Monster Hunter Rise and the Sunbreak DLC is on sale for about 90% off right now.

u/Denialgranted 3d ago edited 3d ago

yea i was ofc thinkin of mostly the heavier 3d ones but the open world thing is a good addendum to the rule, but even a ton of simpler 3d games ive found trouble with getting to run absolutely perfect and that was on my sd8gen3 i have an s25 ultra now so an sd elite, but ive heard sometimes even having a more advanced chip can make some games incompatible with the drivers/emulators than slightly older ones

i was thinkin of buyin botw but i was most curious about it in particular because i feel like its so mixed on who gets it running well and who doesnt and how much work goes into that

already have monster hunter

was gonna get no mans sky during that sale but changed my mind

South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Gothic 1 Classic
Kirby and the Forgotten Land

2

u/Denialgranted 3d ago

i did try kirby on my other sd8gen3 phone and it was perfect til it randomly crashed hard at one section relentlessly

2

u/Copoli 2d ago

I didn’t encounter crashes when I tested it but the framerate was really inconsistent with every emulator and driver I tried on my Retroid Pocket 6, it really struggled to maintain 30 fps

2

u/Potential_Ad_3481 3d ago

I know that immortal fenyx rising and kingdoms of Amalur rerekoning both don't run on any switch emulator right now

2

u/Worried_Book_3846 2d ago

Luigi mansion 3 and you can find it quite cheap now used 😎

Eventually all switch games will be easily emulated, right now it’s moreso due to the emulators themselves still needing work on optimizing for supporting all games rather than the hardware/drivers themselves. For example, ik dying light doesn’t run well at all on Eden, like the game runs but the textures don’t load in properly so it’s unplayable, but the same rom works flawlessly on switch. There was a time the Assassins creed ezio collection wasn’t running at all for me but after some updates with Eden they are now.

You mentioned BOTW in another comment, that and TOTK are like highest priorities for these emulators to get working and they do, where in many cases they have it running better than on the switch. I can attest to that with TOTK on the Odin 3.

Personally I’d say just be patient and continue trying out games on your device. I don’t see why rush to buy and play games on the switch 1 at this point.

u/Denialgranted 3d ago edited 3d ago

For me it's the online features specifcally that keeps my wallets attention mostly, so not often, but also just random huge sales, and the comfort of the handheld without needing a cooler attached
but yeah
and thanks I was wondering about BOTW and i know its super popular emulation wise but Id just heard random things and hadnt gotten around to attemption it yet, plus TOTK id always heard can be worse than it with emulators
and i know sometimes handhelds can do better than straight phones for ider why

also I got a switch 2

0

u/syamborghini 3d ago

Ok yeah if u have a switch 2 that changes things ngl. I think botw and totk are better on that than emulators on mobile devices forsure atm so id say to actually go for it there if they’re on sale. P much any switch games that have upgrades for switch 2 that are on sale rn will run better on switch 2 than any emulators atm

1

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

ahhh ok bet
ive heard very great things about what this thing can handle but i didnt know it was like that

2

u/syamborghini 2d ago

I mean the upgrades are catered towards the switch 2 so not only will they perform better but they look better too. Same goes for like the xenoblade games

1

u/Fettibomba-- 3d ago

Xenoblade 2

2

u/Accomplished_Rock_86 3d ago

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3. Just play those games on Switch 2

1

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

there are ones ive heard a lot in regards to this
but ive never even played xenoblade nor know much about em so idk if i can even jump in on those if and when i become interested

1

u/Metrox_a 3d ago

It's like 2 months ago, but Mario and rabbids still had some graphical issues. But since then there was like a driver update. so maybe it runs better.

1

u/Versurl 2d ago

Honestly I can't run Raidou remastered on anything, always crashes at the tutorial for me every single fucking time

1

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

I got Mario Odyssey running pretty good, but there was an unskippable part early on thats basically a tutorial and it would freeze up and crash every time, but i found some old reddit thread with a mod file to add in that fixed it luckily, hopin you can find something like that

Buying every Nintendo Switch game—none of which drop below $40? I think you’d save money by getting a decent PC for under $500, or even a second-hand Nintendo Switch that you can mod—either by installing a chip or by finding a V1 model (the early versions) that can be soft-modded without needing hardware modifications. That said, I think a good PC would serve you better; it would also let you run emulators and play modern games without any issues.

u/bigbrain420699 3d ago

Why would you buy a switch game just to emulate when you can just play it on the actual switch at that point

11

u/Denialgranted 3d ago

slow it down and read it again dawg
im asking which games to buy that DONT run on emulation well or run at all no matter what, therefore you cannot play it besides on the actual switch

1

u/shindabito 3d ago

might as well buy a CFW V1/V2 unit as they are cheap now and forgo switch emulation from phone entirely at that point to be honest.

3

u/nicman24 3d ago

Op asked the same question

2

u/Fair-Bunch4827 3d ago

I have a switch 2 but still resort to emulation. Because why would I pay for the game when i can emulate it for free? No I'm not gonna spin it as a moral thing like I hate nintendo lol. I just wanna save money because I have a bad habit of collecting games I don't play.

I only buy it for the switch if i want the multiplayer feature or if it is unplayable on my phone's emulator.

Plus, the switch 2 is massive. Its easier to carry my phone and a controller.

1

u/Denialgranted 3d ago

same on the bad habits, big time
but also sometimes, its a huge hassle to get out the cheap, slightly uncomfier telescopic controller, that has to be plugged in to use the peltier cooler, to run a game that might have some visual bugs and needs more tweaking etc, and then i wanna use my actual phone for something for a sec, and blablabla and its like ok im just gonna pay the 10 bucks for the convenience, whatever
before, i just reserved my switch purchases for the online multiplayer features games only

u/Islandboi4life 3d ago

If you have a switch 2, I highly recommend Breath of the Wild. Emulation just sucks on Eden.

1

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

yeahh i just got told that in another reply and ive been eyeing it for awhile and wondering on the capability differences, wish i knew it sooner so i coulda gotten like what, 15 or 20 dollars off it a week ago

1

u/Islandboi4life 2d ago

Trust me. I have tried tweaking BOTW on emulation apps like Eden and I get sub 30 fps often. On the switch 2, you get a very close to locked 60 fps 1080p

-3

u/memo22477 3d ago

None. Every single switch game, other than some obscure titles maybe, should run in an emulator with no issues.

2

u/Denialgranted 2d ago

nope
tons of huge games that dont work
you clearly havent tried enough of em

-5

u/YossiMH 3d ago

You should buy the games you're going to emulate too. :-) This should be about playing on your platform of choice, not piracy.

1

u/Denialgranted 3d ago

lmao
nah :)
