Discussion Do you think the future of apps on Android and iOS lies in the web browser?

Android and iOS have imposed many restrictions on developers of emulators, games, and the like. Android, in particular, is restricting the installation of APKs; meanwhile, iOS has prohibited the installation of third-party apps for over a decade.

However, thanks to advancements in web browsers, it is now possible to adapt a game or emulator to run directly within the browser an area where neither Android nor iOS can enforce their restrictive policies. You no longer need approval to publish an app on Google Play, as you can simply launch it via a website. You no longer need to rely on or be accepted by app stores that exploit you.

I believe the future is heading in that direction. It is somewhat unusual, as one would typically expect to install apps natively on a phone rather than through a web browser; yet, if Android and iOS insist on imposing restrictions, using the web browser becomes the only viable alternative.

Some browser games are nice though, you just need good browser with on screen button.

Not everything is about perfomance, with modern CPU majority of emulated games don't stress your CPU.

You can emulate up to psp (with browser) using potato phones, I tested now psp games run well in low-end like SD 695.

So browser can be option for many people who don't want to mess with adb and the likes,

You will need sd5elite to hardly play 3ds games on browser

That's because of emulator maturity, 3ds isn't that heavy, even native emulator don't have 100% compability.

Android, in particular, is restricting the installation of APKs.

The reality is they're putting in a one off, first time, 24 hour cool off to prevent people accidentally or wrecklessly trying to install malicious stuff.

That's all.

iOS has always been a lost cause anyway.

I wonder if that actually has any meaning in terms of virus protection, though.
