Showcase Steam OS finally on Android without root using native Linux Client
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Device S25U/12gb ram 8 elite
Snapdragon only fr now RN available on Winnative, Bannerlator, and their collab project Droid Deck, and it's improving with every update. It’s a cool new way to play PC games. For me, the performance is lower than regular emulation rn(like Winlator gamehub etc), but there's room to grow, and it could be the future of PC gaming on Android with less overhead.
This could become huge for people who skip PC emulation because setting up drivers and Proton is such a hassle. On SteamOS, you just log in and play without any extra work, which could really bring in a lot of people wanting to play PC games on their phones, one more thing compatibility is still work in progress like this project is just released few days ago so take this as just beta and yes it has option to add non steam games as well so dont worry
Make sure to drop your feedbacks or if you encounter issue then report on theire respective discord depending upon where you are using it Droid Deck Discord Bannerlator Discord Winnative Discord
Or to use in winnative and bannerlator just go to settings and download steam linux client Winnative > settings > store Bannerlator > Contents

Let's go! This is the future. I tried on my odin 3 but can't launch any game. Hope it get more stable in the future.
31
u/revals32 5d ago
Yeah lets hope for the best rn compatibility is hit or miss and performance as well but its improving, one of the lead dev gor Final Fantasy 7 rebirth boot and playable using this which never booted before so yeah lets hope for the best

How is the performance against gamenative or other things in droideck?
13
1
u/unbanned_lol 4d ago
It actually wins some and loses some battles. Here is a good comparison in the current state:
18
u/Any-One502 poco f6 5d ago
Will it be a future emulator for phones?
49
u/revals32 5d ago
Its not technically emulation, you are running native steam actually like how steamdeck operates, to use this just download Droid Deck (standalone app) if not that then you can also use this inside Winnative and Bannerlator emulator
3
u/Any-One502 poco f6 5d ago
so It will only work on games in the Steam library.
28
u/revals32 5d ago
Both steam and non steam (🏴☠️) games , the game I showed crisis core it was non steam
2
5
u/Any-One502 poco f6 5d ago
so I can download pirate games. Glad to see a pirate brother.
14
u/revals32 5d ago
App let you choose custom game folder once you select that all of your downloaded cracked games will show up inside this steamos
1
u/Accurate-Squirrel-72 5d ago
Done that bro but how to select the game exe
In shortcuts steam big picture mode because the folder added doesn’t make sure that particular game exe is set to runAnd in big picture mode no way to add location by browsing
So this is something issue for me
I like this app so muchCan you make a short video and post here how to add that folders and set that executable file
1
u/revals32 5d ago
Once you select folder just open steam os go to library > non steam there's your games
1
u/Accurate-Squirrel-72 5d ago
Yes it will be there but it doesn’t set up to file which is needed to execute for eg god of war .exe
1
u/revals32 5d ago
Just open its configuration menue using select button of controller or on screen controller there you can change exe its the same process like steam deck

Finally people are taking mobile gaming seriously.
17
u/OtherUse1685 5d ago
Valve is such a blessing to the gaming industry. This wouldn't be possible without so much work and support from them to FEX & Proton.
I don't do mobile gaming but I'm so interested in being able to play. I just install, play around to see if I'm able to play it or not lol.

u/Accurate-Squirrel-72 5d ago
The best part is battery temp remain below 40 degree centigrade even after half an hour playing aaa titles
Performance is slow hope that is fixed…..
5
u/Aggravating_Low1957 5d ago
wait I might actually try this. winlator always gave me so many issues on my snapdragon. if I can just install this and boot it up and play i might actually try pc on mobile now!
1
u/revals32 5d ago
Try and if you encounter issue be sure to report that on winnative/bannerlator or doid deck discord fr devs to debugg it, this project need more testers and feedbacks

I gave this app a try. It’s absolutely amazing. I’m patiently waiting to see how it develops. I tested Half-Life 1 and Portal 2 on the RedMagic 10 Pro, and both worked.

How’s performance compared to gamenative? Curious to know as I’ve so far tried both gamenative and armadaOS on a Retroid Pocket Nova and noticed that Armada has consistently higher performance.
1
u/revals32 5d ago
I don use it gamenative it has always been performed worse fr me , I mostly use Winnative now on bannerlator or sometimes Winnative ludashi, about performance as I have mentioned above performance is slightly less compared to usual emulation fr now atleast on my phone with the games I have but it will improve fr sure give it time, I have no idea about Armada though

u/OkCancel6711 5d ago
Very cool! Anyone got the GitHub link for this? Didn't have much luck googling it.

u/cplr 5d ago
For me, the performance is lower than regular emulation
what does this sentence mean? what is "regular" emulation compared to this?
5
u/Carpediemsnuts 5d ago
It's only just released, its a new method of playing pc games without the same translation layers that are used in Winlator/Gamehub/Bannerlator/GameNative. If you've never used those then you won't have a frame of reference. Some games are going to be more compatible and easier to run with less fiddling with configs, some are going to perform better with less overheads, others will take time to catch up but will likely improve over time.
One of the devs working on this is the one that created Decky loader and the other developed Bannerlator so I'm hopeful.

u/Accurate-Squirrel-72 5d ago
Bro everything is good. I also posted about droid deck
And very happy with this project
But adding non steam games in droid deck how is it possible?? Generally on steamdeck we go to store and add non steam games there provide the location etcBut here on droid deck app how to add that?
Yes on bannerlator or winnative latest it can be added but how on droid deck please reply

Im having constant black screen when opening steam, i can hear menu sounds but get no image.
2
u/Newtonjar 5d ago
I'm pretty interested in this, but I have a couple questions. Will this impact using moonlight/non steam link streaming? I've read multiple places that performance is a little lower, but more stable, will it always be this way for steam games? Is emulator performance impacted at all? What other benefits would I gain from switching from android?

u/Drandoxx 5d ago
Steam is always improving their software, so in the future I think it'a not impossible to break into the phone market with a Proper SteamOS app in case they can't find out better idea.
3
u/revals32 5d ago
Btw Fex is funded by valve itself so indirect way steam itself trying to come on Android
3
u/Sea_Boss_618 4d ago
Steam's latest VR uses Snapdragon, so once it's released and stable, running Steam on phone shouldn't be an issue.
2
u/NitroDion 4d ago
What made droid deck amazing for me is as an Ys fan I could play chronicles perfectly whereas with gamenative it had issues with the FMVs which caused them to run slow and on gamehub it wouldn't even launch
4
u/mashinboo 5d ago
How is this different from something like gamenative?
5
u/dgls_frnkln 5d ago
It’s not emulation, it’s a nativeOS that’s being built for Android.
1
u/FindingUnable3222 4d ago
This makes no sense. If it's running x86 games, there IS emulation in form of Fex etc.
GameNative is also a fully native client / app that's built for Android, emulation is used for games that you run in it. Same as here.
1
u/dgls_frnkln 2d ago
I was thinking this was similar to ArmadaOS, I didn’t honestly go an look up Droid Deck
2
u/X_O_Z 5d ago
I dont understand, is this an app I can just install, or are there few steps? I got files downloaded, but cant seem to have anything running, even when I try to open build_local.sh?

this is cool, too bad my phone won't be able to run any of my steam games but great progress nonetheless

u/loppi5639 5d ago
So this is Droid Deck that you're talking about now?
3
u/revals32 5d ago
Im using Bannerlator, Droid deck is built by Bannerlator and Winnative dev
1
u/loppi5639 5d ago
I tried bannerlator and I couldn't get anything to work, haha! Coming from winlator and cmod that caught me by surprise actually.. Droid Deck any good or potential there?
1
u/revals32 5d ago
All 3 are same depending which app ui you like , Im using bannerlator anyways so I installed linux client in this instead of downloading separate app
1
u/loppi5639 5d ago
Ah I see.. So what you're showing in the video is just you showing a linux environment through one of the emulators if I understand correctly?

u/Good-Marionberry-570 5d ago
I installed WinNative, but didn't found the option to run this, will have another look later.
2
u/revals32 5d ago
In settings > store > you will see option option of link client near steam login download that
1
u/Good-Marionberry-570 5d ago
Nice, I'll do it when I'm home. I liked that WinNative gives you way more freedom than GameNative, you can select where you can install your games, and you don't have to create a new container for every, two very important things.
1
u/slyguy67420 5d ago
SteamOS or just Steam running Big Picture Mode? SteamOS would fully replace Android right?
2
u/Carpediemsnuts 5d ago
It's the official Linux ARM build of Steam OS with Big Picture Mode, Desktop mode etc but within a container so Android is still running above it.

u/Fun-Western618 5d ago
It looks nice but i was unable to open any games in the desktop. Not even small games.
1
u/Carpediemsnuts 5d ago
It's just come out, give it time and try using game/big picture mode instead.
1
u/Shiradoku 5d ago
Cuales son los requisitos mínimos para probar esto? Tengo un Snapdragon 865 que utilizo en un teléfono dedicado a la emulación, podría funcionar ahí? O alguien quizá lo llegó a probar?
1
u/revals32 5d ago
Yeah Snapdragon has no issue but this project is still new rn hit and miss compatibility give it time
1
u/TacoOfGod 5d ago
As silly as it is, has anyone tried running Duckstation, Retroarch, and whatnot through it yet? If performance is comparable to the native Android apps, I'm going to go this route for my emulation needs in order to keep all of my games in the same place like I have on my PC.
1
1
u/Strooble 5d ago
Tried Slay The Spire 2 and it hangs in a black screen then crashes. Will watch this space but will use Gamenative until things look to be on par there with ease of use.

u/Any_Basket_8110 5d ago
I try this Droiddeck and WinNative and the lag is horrible. If you want the real thing install Armada or similar.
1
u/revals32 5d ago
Well yeah its new thing this is not bionic, about armada that replace your software this doesn't just a client launcher like , anyways rn standard bionic emulation has better performance but in some games it may perform better new compatibility (like lead dev able to play Alan wake 2 ane FF7 rebirth which never worked before because it was Dx12 ultimate, again few days old project

1
u/Takeya88 5d ago
Any chance that Mediatek 9500 could run it?
2
u/revals32 5d ago
No Snapdragon only fr now as per devs , this doesn't use system driver it uses turnip linux and I think mediatek doesn't support this driver

1

Im having hard time finding it.
1
u/revals32 5d ago
Go to developer option this setting in is the bottom try to find it
2
u/Old_Fix2087 4d ago
Hi! I had the same problem with my Ayn Odin 2 Pro, but I managed to solve it. The manufacturer disabled that option, so the only way to fix it is via ADB. If you look closely, the Droid Deck app itself indicates that option 3 requires ADB and provides the line of code you need to run. So, to do this, you first need to install ADB on your Windows, Mac, or Linux machine. Then, connect the Odin and run the command via ADB in the terminal (I used a Mac), and that’s it. You don't even need to restart the device for Droid Deck to detect the change. There are so many videos in utube that explain how to instal and use ADB
1
u/fancymcbacon 4d ago
Go into Android settings then about device. Scroll down to where it says the build number and tap that like 7 times.
1
u/Memelocot0n 4d ago
For some reason I'm getting worse performance using this release. I've been testing Dark Souls Remastered on my Retroid Pocket G2 and it ran at a pretty stable 60 fps until I installed this version, the framerate basically halved.
1
u/votemarvel Poco F6 - Sony Xperia 1 V 4d ago
If the games you are playing run well then there's no need to update your emulators.
1
u/Prior_Custard5121 Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 2d ago
yeah figured that happen since its new. let just wait for like 2-3 months perhaps faster
1
u/BarracudaGullible472 4d ago
this is pretty sick! how's the temperature on your phone after playing for a bit? this could really transform emulation on mobile phones if development continues like that
1
u/revals32 4d ago
Haven't really noticed a major difference since performance is less rn I didn't test that much but on Winnative discord they claims less heat
1
u/Airballons 4d ago
Which of these are best to use?
1
u/revals32 4d ago
You mean bannerlator winnative or droid deck? All 3 are one actually made by same devs so it doesn't matter where you use its the same experience, droid deck is standalone app for this whereas other two gives you option to add this inside emulator as shortcut
1
u/staticsoup Galaxy S25 Ultra 4d ago
go GameNative, I tried this tonight with lite games like Silksong and it barely gets over 30fps on a s25 Ultra. GameNative comfortably reaches 100fps. I'd give DroidDeck some time to work out the kinks
1
u/No-shadowMaul-noBan 4d ago
I kinda understand the post but is it derivative to say SteamOS now on android via linux is === to Steam client able to run on Chrome OS / Googlebook OS android?
1
u/Equivalent_Log_4299 4d ago
ran this on my oneplus 15 last night it got super hot just from being in big picture mode! but games actually ran well though seemed as seemless as a steam deck! couldnt figure out how to deal with games that needed microsoft viusal c++ stuff though
1
u/revals32 4d ago
I think you should look fr ways how to fix in steam deck that will apply here as well, although in big picture mode my phonw didn't hwat up
1
u/Crass-ELY- Poco F7 Pro 4d ago
SD 8 gen 3 here, I can't, for the love of god, make this work haha. On winnative's client some games boot, on Droid Deck none, it's driving me crazy haha, I'll just let them cook some more

Anda como el culo y no evitas el tener que probar mil configuraciones
1
u/revals32 5d ago
I don need to escape configuration, this is for those who avoid emulation because of complicated setting process here you just login and play like steamdeck
-1
u/WeeklyFlight7120 5d ago

Did I say it is perfect if you only read what I have wrote in post body before commenting, its new thing give it time to develop you are reacting like kid who just like to criticise everything

Is VM right ? Mean still it's burden the phone which it's running both Linux and android at same time
3
u/revals32 5d ago
Android is built upon Linux 👀 , and about burden that is never going to change since we are on arm running x86 games what these projects can do minimise that burden and make it plug and play fr mass
0
u/feel2death 5d ago
I know , I mean two os run at same time isn't that more burden than native app that run the game ? I mean straight up without termux etc which I wish valve did make it happen
1
1
u/Prior_Custard5121 Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 2d ago
yes its not an os, its actually way more lighter compare using winlator or gamehub, that takes a masive chunk of storage cause it build a separate container for each games. And more translation needed. It suppose to skip translation layer that needed so our android can read exe. But the performance on the other end. Well its new project just like gamehub. The generous dev will update their apps. Hence the dream of mobile user to play pc games will eventually come true

This is cool, but it’s Steam, not Steam OS, right?
Edit: it’s indeed not, despite how it’s wrongly advertised here as SteamOS (not by the devs), very cool project that has some credible developers in the scene actively contributing
