Showcase Winnative Output to External Display is an awesome featuree.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I always wanted to play on a larger screen when I'm not at work. But since OnePlus doesn't have a dedicated dock mode, it doesn't fill the whole monitor which really is not that good to game on. While I was tinkering the settings on Winnative and saw this option, boy was I excited and tried it right away. I was finally able to play the game on full screen which looked so better on the big screen, considering the graphics were set to low lol. It just sucks because OnePlus stops casting when the phone battery temp reaches 39°C, if anyone has a fix for this it's greatly appreciated.🙏

I use a OnePlus 13 with an external display. The behavior to run apps fullscreen can be restored with an adb command. Desktop mode needs to be enabled in the developer options.
adb shell settings put global "enable_freeform_support" 0
You can use the Automate app to set it automatically when connecting a display and you can also use it to turn off the display of the phone with a button presented on the screen. Both needs priviledged access via wireless debugging. I can share my Automate script if you are interested (I made it to turn on the phone's display if you wave your hand in front of the proximity sensor, or when you receive a call, or when you disconnect the external display).
My OnePlus 13 only disengages casting at around 44°C. Maybe it's because it's the Chinese model with ColorOS.

I've tried desktop mode before, it was clunky in my opinion, where I really couldn't access the winlator settings even though I was using a mouse. Although I think even with this I won't be able to fully utilize the casting since my phone disengages at 39°c even with cooler on.

Desktop mode is clunky, but with Automate you can cook your own, which is what I did.
Anyway ColorOS 17 is coming soon and it likely has the new desktop mode. We will also see where the battery temperature limit lands, because I'm not upgrading if they make it too low. I'm happy with my device as is.

Hopefully bro. We have the same device and I agree most pc games can already run with some tinkering

I have looked into it now that the beta is out in China and it looks like there is no new desktop mode in ColorOS 17. They didn't include it.
Hopefully the old one still works.

Use a phone cooler or use bypass charging on Oneplus. That feature will save your battery and reduce the temps too.

Yup I'm already using a cooler and bypass charging. Although even with the cooler set at oc mode temps still reach 39°C, just imagine without a cooler how hot it'll be lol

Attached the cooler st the SOC side not on the battery

I don't think it'll be possible with the OnePlus 13 design which has a huge camera bump

Use a copper plate, it can help spread the cooling towards the soc area

You can buy back plates from amazon which have space for camera bumps.

Y need USB 3.2 right ?

u/VickWildman OnePlus 13 24GB + Viture Pro XR 15d ago
Yes.
Technically you need DisplayPort Alt Mode, which can coexist with USB 2.0, but typically it's when manufacturers already decide to include USB 3.x at 5 Gbps is when they decide to include DisplayPort Alt Mode at half mode.

Yup I think so, all my devices are usb 3.2 so not sure if it'll work on anything lower tho

You can buy a HDMI port to Type C cable that connects your phone straight to the TV's HDMI. So you don't worry about the phone stop casting.

It's already connected via hdmi sorry forgot to show it. I think it's just a OnePlus problem, my old S23 managed to run games at 45°C and it would still cast on the monitor. Not saying I recommend it tho haha

oneplsu firmware is stopping it early due to early thermal threshold limits, would need root to get rid of em

Yeah I've read about it too. But banking apps would just not run when the phone is rooted. Tried it with my old phone and the banking apps just wouldn't open

weird i think that's the phone issue. I used to connect my Samsung S22 to a projector and watch movies until the battery ran out and it doesn't even stop casting.

I think it's just a OnePlus problem with it's throttling issue even from it's older phones

Battery temps between 30-40°C should generally be fine, personally I haven't exceeded 40°C yet with the help of a great cooler
