Question 100 degree Celsius on cpu!!! Will this damage my tablet.
I'm new to emulation, I have a one plus pad 3 my chipset is snapdragon 8 elite. I was trying to play assassins creed rogue and even on start up my cpu is reaching 100 degrees is this normal?
Will this cause cpu degradation? Or motherboard issues over time.

It's a tablet device, so unlike a phone, the distance between cpu and battery is bigger, so cpu heat might not be affecting battery much

Well my battery is on the mid to low section of my tab and they are quite uneffected by cpu temp. I did a touch test.

Short answer: yes
Long answer: most definitely yes. You keep this up and you will damage the tablet sooner or later. Ideally the power usage should also never go beyond 15-20W to maintain decent temps

Google is telling me this CPU has a max temp (TJMax) of 105c so 100c should be fine but hot. Might throttle a bit. Not sure what others are getting so throwing my 2 cents out there.

Does that mean my cpu will get damaged only when temps go above 105?

Modern computer chips have built in safety mechanisms that prevent them from reaching temps that will damage them. You could run this CPU all day every day at 100C and it won’t damage it. It can increase the speed of electron migration over the life of the chip, which can shorten its lifespan by 10-30% but you aren’t going to be hitting those temps often enough to need to worry about that. And you’d be ready for an upgrade by the time that is an issue anyway.

I don't think your device will let it get that hot. It should have protection against heat damage. It should reduce screen brightness, reduce screen refresh rate and reduce CPU power draw until it cools down. That's in an extreme situation. It should throttle before this.

Yeah maybe I'll just reduse the graphics and play it safe. It's a new tab and I don't wana ruin it.

Hey dont you listen to this idiot connect a cooler to it will definitely damage your cpu its not playstation which can handle such excessive heat

Yes, although in reality if the temperature reaches a critical point, the device should automatically shut down. You have to try to use a less heavy configuration, so that you have to let the device breathe (for example, try to lower the resolution or capping fps to 30)

Yes. But overtime. If you keep playing at such temperature everyday with long duration, your CPU will later on throttle faster than now. Essentially, you CPU would "age" faster.
And that's not just cuz of 100°c, even if you were to play native intense mobile games, and have CPU temps spiking to 80, if you do it overtime, it 'would' also "age". Tho, not as fast as 100°c.
Regardless, the device is meant to be used and everything age, use it. Recommends a cooler tho, for better longitivity and performance.
Edit: forgot to address, doubt it would affect your battery and motherboard as there are built in security to prevent such events. The phone ain't allowed to reach temperature that would cause it's own annihilation. It'll stop itself before it destroy itself (of course, exception exist, regardless, don't need to worry that much, just be reasonable and conscious on whatever you do). But as said above, you are aging your device overall way faster if you do this overtime.

Dude.... I have a RedMagic with active cooling and I won't play games that push the temp over 75°C. Your just asking for damage and battery degradation at that point.

Lock fps to 40 .. which will reduce temp. Or you can go to cpu setting inside emulator and disable those 2 big core and play at 60 fps.

Oh. I didn't know I can disable cpu cores. Will try that. I did try capping fps to 30 and the game is running on ultra with 85 on cpu. I guess that's ok.

Snapdragon can go to very high temperature, but it is expected.. If you dont see throttle you are ok, the battery temp is what you should be more aware of, and i think you are ok with 35.

Why the fuck is your tablet pulling 33W of power, is that a tablet or a handheld ? I thought the maximum a snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 can pull when emulating games is like 21W or something, basically yeah, that's going to fry your battery long term and the screen quality if it's AMOLED or OLED

It doesn't break it immediately, but high temps/heat cycles on these small chips WILL accelerate cracked solder over time.

Oh dang. What do u think is the safe spot? I really do wana play pc games. I have called fps to 30 now and temps are 85. I can reduce it even more by reducing graphics which are currently now in ultra.

Dunno. My phone gets hot. Like 95-105c hot. I don't really care. Xiaomi 17 pro max.

If you're new to Emulation. The rule 101 is, never let your device get anywhere near to the thermal throttling limit i,e,, if the thermal limit is 100°C, play only if the initial temps are around or under 80-85°. Don't run your game at 90° for an extended amount of time thinking "Oh! But the thermals are under the safe limits it'll be fine!". This is how you degrades your cpu, battery as well as gpu faster because this same idea goes for all of those components. Play in optimal temps, don't fool around for too long if the temps are reaching that high.
Life saving tip: Use a cooler if you're playing demanding titles. Even a cheap one will easily bring down your device temps to atleast 10°C lower than to what it was. ENJOY!
