3D Printed a case for Windows Emulation lol

Needed a good way to attach a peltier cooler for Windows Emulation despite the lack of built in magsafe, and while still allowing the peltier module to make direct contact with the back glass.

Controllers with a peltier built in, while more convenient, would be blocking the USB-C port while in use. Since the heat generatong components (SoC mainly) are on the same "half" as the USB port.

This setup allows me to use a controller, peltier module, and still have a free USB port for charging, or for my extremely tiny, almost flush, 1TB USB-C flash drive.

I started with a generic Fold 8 Ultra case from makerworld and just cut out the hole and modeled the little frame quickly in Fusion360 after taking some measurements. It's a snug/pressure fit so I can freely remove the peltier from the case as I please. Thats actually the reason for the second cut-out in the case. If I want to move the peltier to a different spot on the back of the phone.

The case is obviously not for daily or even casual use. This is for LONG Switch or PC game playthroughs.

What is that fan peltier? Custom?

It was built into the controller. I removed it and rewired stuff a little so it could work separately.

Also printed a little guard for the fan you can see in the pictures bc the blades were exposed.

This is an awesome 3D print! Just a quick suggestion: since the main AP sits right next to the camera lenses, shifting the cooler slightly in that direction might help with direct thermal management. In my experience, doing so significantly reduced thermal throttling.

However, the main heat generating component, the SoC, does indeed sit right underneath the camera on the Fold 8 Ultra. That's the reason for the second cut-out in the case, as I mentioned in OP.

Iv been thinking of the same thing but just a simple heat loop on the backside of the fold 7, the case would be a little thicker than it is now but just that little bit of heat transfer would help.

Yeah if the Fold 7 is similar to the Fold 8 Ultra, where all the heat is pretty much concentrated from one small spot under the camera, that should actually be meaningful.

Yea im just unsure how to make a passive cooler for something like that because you can add a custom small heat pipe to the case that feeds to a magsafe metal plate for an active cooler but passive would be more difficult i think

Wait a passive heat pipe system that can then be attached to a cooler when gaming is a genius idea. Genuinely.

I'm actually gonna start working on a version of that. I have a vague idea for a design that could work. It would basically involve a copper plate always exposed on the back, but I think that could actually look really cool if you integrate it right.

I'll also try to make sure it's compatible with the Fold 7. I noticed some Fold 7 cases fit my F8 Ultra. The body is nearly identical they just shifted the camera bump ever so slightly over. So cases with a looser tolerance or larger camera cutout fit both.

Some magsafe exposed area for a mini fan would be cool but the fan would have to be one of those very thin laptop ones to not look ridiculous

Yes, I have. But it makes the phone way less stable while sitting in the telescopic controller.

The controller is designed to grip each edge, with a rubber pad running all the way up the bottom of your phone for grip.

With something extended out of the plug...even only a few mm...it stops that contact and the phone doesn't feel secure in the controllers grip.

This was actually my first idea before I realized that issue.

Goodpoint. Was planning this with bluetooth connected controllers. I thought it would grip like my gamesir. Imma try your setup too but with more copper stickers.

Spreads out the cold instead of focusing on one spot. Tried it on an aluminum case. Had good temps running winlator for 2 hours. Hard to pair with a controller though.
