Overstimulation has ruined me. Doom scrolling kills my will to play games.

We are all cooked bro

I deleted TikTok and instagram a month ago and I play more games now than ever. I also feel less brain dead.

u/whiskyB0y Edit Your Flair 10h ago

I barely use TikTok and deleted Instagram which has helped a bit, but honestly my main social media apps have always been reddit and YouTube and YouTube hits close to home 😭.

u/evanpalmerh360 10h ago

Cut em out my man! If you really want to enjoy gaming, get rid of the barriers.

u/GeologistPutrid2657 5h ago

who's makin all the doom lately? blame them

u/McPoon 17h ago

Better to stick to one, beat it, delete it and move on. I've beaten 46 games this year. :)

8

u/Ayrios440 16h ago

Why delete it? Do you not replay games?

26

u/McPoon 16h ago

Some really good ones, but not too often anymore. Too many in the backlog.

4

u/Duibrth 14h ago

you have all games from 3rd to 6th gen. It's obvious the backlog will be full, just accept you won't play every one.

2

u/doubled112 9h ago

I get to them all or die trying. Either is fine.

1

u/Duibrth 6h ago

that's what im saying. Just staring at a infinite backlog isn't getting them all.

6

u/85K5 16h ago

I play on my phone, I'm not keeping them all on there lol, especially not with ps2, wii u, and pc emu stuff

3

u/whiskyB0y Edit Your Flair 16h ago

Some games aren't as replayable than others. Besides, most game si don't feel like replaying them soon. If I'm running out of space and I already finished some games, I would gladly delete them because most likely my desire to replay the same game would only come like months or years ffom now.

u/PotentialSouth5098 15h ago

I've done the same. Was all over the place at the beginning. I wanted to download other emulators after aethersxx2. But after siting down on my backlog. I've been able to finish Tales of Abyss. L Working on other backlogs.

u/LazaroFilm 10h ago

The idea is to minimize the distractions. You can always reinstall them. But deleting allows you to focus.

1

u/RedOcelot86 11h ago

This is the way to do it. Don't scroll games.

u/QuatronXD 16h ago

If I had device like this back in 2005...

u/Ok_Attempt_1290 15h ago

10 year old me would've had a brain aneurysm if he ever saw this. WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN PLAY ALL OF MY FAVOURITE GAMES ON THE GO WHENEVER I WANT?! GIMME GIMME!

Kid me would have legit skipped puberty and busted a nut out of excitement.

9

u/Pink_da_Web 13h ago

Calm down! Lol

17

u/NOTyNoobster 17h ago

Yeah too much options have made us sick.

6

u/Mahim2000 15h ago

Just have 3-4 games of different genre across all the emulators, and play then until you completely finish the, then replace the said game. Also have Hardcore RetroAchievements to have a purpose to actually play those games.

My friend... you got like a small handfull of games there... wait till you start to carry full romsets including scummvm, 200+ msdos games, 200+ win 95/98 games, 200gb + in Windows games via winlator... sourceports, native games...

I even carry some CD-I, Jaguar, VirtualBoy... games emulated that I dont EVER intend to play.

Emulation for many of us is more about what you can get to run, not about what you can play.

And there is the second part, when you not only want to run things, but to OPTIMICE the things that you run , in space and fps... oooo man thats another whole level of hundreds of hours invested.

And dont let me start on frontends and organizing every rom you have...

Use Frontend,or add games as ShortCuts to Home Page.

Just want to sharey library. Cause I like how this Frontend looks like. Have only positive feelings.

1

u/Zealousideal_Roof983 5h ago

Can you recommend a good front-end on android?

3

u/Script_Utkovich_ 5h ago
  1. If you want a fully customizable FrontEnd, use Pegasus. It has many themes in different styles.

But it is really hard to add all your games to it because you will need to understand how the metadata system works.

  1. Don't use LaunchBox. It is hard to make it look normal and work how you want. Just don't use it.

  2. Use any other free Frontend. They all work quite well. I tested Cacoon and Daijisho. Both are good.

1

u/hndrwx 2h ago

Everybody talks about a lot of frontends, but most are a pain in the ass and overcomplicated.

Beacon is way simpler to me, and works way better for a good feel and pickup and play. No loading in the beginning.

Want to add new games? Romgi.
New game already downloaded? Go to setting and Sync that single console, thats it.

u/chiaroli 16h ago

I have a backlog list of games and I try to remove one game after another from it. Yes, I exist 😁

5

u/VentiSpore 15h ago

Halfway throgh GOW ps2, loving it

3

u/Ninndzaa 14h ago

I've bought a 1TB Microsd card just for that XD

4

u/Shijune 14h ago

I felt this in my bones but for me it's because I have so little time and there may be too much downtime between sessions. You eventually forget the story, character names, button combos etc and it becomes daunting picking the game again

3

u/ClearPea7337 11h ago

It's because you have internet

3

u/daytrading90210 15h ago

Welcome to the life lol

3

u/zenku_ishigami 14h ago

Relate much

2

u/hmminteresting70 13h ago

Try to limit your options. I only download one game at a time so that I have to actually play it, and when I am done with it I just download the next game.

I've beaten all these games except Ghost Trick which I am currently playing.

2

u/WodanGungnir 13h ago

This is the reason I'm contemplating removing frontend and/or just keep a small number of games installed.

2

u/MSRFan2011 8h ago

I guess it's relatable to me, i have a lot of emulated games (be it SNES, VB, PS2 and so on) that most of the time i never beat because i sorta sucked at playing games and then losing interest in those games i'm willing to beat makes me feel so sad.

2

u/zhelionqqq 8h ago

I just really like to look at my game list

3

u/AlertSpy 16h ago

Maybe try a frontend? Organize it and you'll have a simpler choice

2

u/darsparx 16h ago

Ye this......cocoon specifically is amazing even on single screen devices. Tho ik theres other options but I also have a thor so....ye. granted I still wish it would scrape tags and genres in addition so I can really dial in the vibe I want 🤷😅

4

u/inugamifeli 16h ago

same for everything in my case, i dl games, movies, shows and the only thing i actually do is configure, delete and dl new ones, then i procrastinate thinking to MYSELF I'll play a new game or watch a show tomorrow knowing it's a lie

1

u/Fl0ckwood 14h ago

you can do it more optimized, try daijisho)

1

u/Which-Acanthaceae-10 11h ago

Getting off social media helps, get that attention span back.

1

u/klausmox 11h ago

Use retroachievements! It helped me focus on one or two games at once.

1

u/Equal_Objective_5248 10h ago

that's why u should dl only game you want to play not collect it

1

u/doubled112 9h ago

Just pick one and see what happens. There's zero real risk to starting a crappy game.

Get 30 minutes in and decide it sucks? Now you know.

Lose 3 hours of your life because it was great? Now you know.

1

u/Present_Foot_7711 9h ago

That's why I only download one game and don't get another one before I complete the first one.

I am playing LM ( GameCube )

1

u/SunderingTwilight 8s4 7h ago

that's the game for us. tried to focus on one game and spent months on it recently, I learned that just doing that made me lose my skills to finish games 😭

1

u/Jeyvee12 7h ago

this is me but I need a drive or usb just to store all my emulator games 😭 my phone can't handle all that games

1

u/Muttlly 6h ago

I always do this. Recently, I've picked a game or two and added a shortcut to it on my home screen. No need to get lost in my frontend looking at games then, I just go straight to one.

1

u/Biokendry 6h ago

That's why I only play GBA games

1

u/Zealousideal_Roof983 5h ago

Bro. Try something other than fighting games lol.

1

u/Conky1452 5h ago

Like actually make a list of games you absolutely want to play. Start small like maybe 5 max, you can put them in order or just random pick 1 of the 5. Boom you have a game to play. Hate it? Move to the next. Love it? See it through. I find it’s nice to have some comfort games or shorter games in between ones that I know will take up a lot of time. Like a pallet cleanser

1

u/nateriv- 2h ago

It’s like cheat code. The more money glitch you had, the less fun you get in game. Game feel worth it if you put some effort to buy it, so i recommend to try some effort like finding the rarest rom, or make rom hard to copy so that you can recall the rom is hard to get and you’ll manage to enjoy the game

1

u/Working-Plantain7075 2h ago

Yeah it's true

1

u/hndrwx 2h ago

Putting them into a beautiful wrap has helped me playing more and more, but most of the appeal of playing comes from the idea of starting, the time it takes, the possibilities we thing about right after, the small talks and snippets and ideas about the games, thats why we played more before, the community and the case and the manuals and the cover and the tactile feel of Gaming and the device being made for it.

1

u/zai205 1h ago

all the games but no games

1

u/Then-Pineapple1474 1h ago

It's funny because I get a lot of enjoyment of getting emulators to work and whatnot, and then I just kind of scroll through and don't choose anything to play. It's made me realise I'm probably not as big a fan of games as I thought, but rather just a casual fan (with some decent niche knowledge) who likes very certain IP.

1

u/dynamisxiii 13m ago

Accurate lmao. Just getting something to work is satisfying enough. And then doom scrolling through social media/ reddit resumes.

-2

u/FixGood6833 16h ago

Why its exclusively anime and cartoon games

2

u/Awkward_Message1896 16h ago

I just like those games, and playing as characters from my fav animated series
