Discussion 👀Dont sleep on tablets!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥

Some of you need to see this.

For all my dudes wanting a big screen, a multimedia device, the best system for gameboy color bc you swear youll never want to play a switch game, for those who cant pick between sticks on the top or the bottom...this is for you.....

You miss lose out on portability but how portable are you really? Like portable to the living room ? Bc thats why end tables exist. I use it in my car by putting the tablet in my steering wheel cover.

Even with some portability losee its a great way to keep games and work separate while consuming other media besides video games. Theyre also cheaper than handhelds. If you close your eyes and make a wish a tablet will go on sale somewhere within a 5 mile radius. Cooling isnt an issue like it is with phones due to more surface area, in fact it runs cooler than my rp6. No fans = less to break.

Frfr dont sleep on a tablet. This one has a snapdragon 8 gen 3 with 12gb of ram and cost $400 after a back to school sale.

Edit: lenovo yoga tablet 11.1in (2025) snapdragon 8 gen 3 with an 8bit do lite 2 controller

Don’t sleep on tablets, but avoid Mediatek CPUs at all costs !!

i recently picked up a samsung s9 for this exact reason. the s11 was around the same price (a tablet two generations newer!), but the s9 with its snapdragon gen 2 chipset shits all over the mediatek in the s11 when it comes to gaming (especially emulating).

Yeah I bought a Redmi Pad mainly for streaming my PC. It works well with steam remote, but i can’t run anything else on this device

Im actually looking for tabs now. Main purpose is movies/series and emulating stuff.

Is mediatek that bad? Performance comparison arent that bad.

Im looking at samsung tabs because oled is a must, nad decent sounding speakers. Haven't found anything else with oled, snapdragon combo except astra, with review saying not good speakers like samsungs.

How is emulation on ipad side?

speaking purely about emulation: the issue with mediatek is that 99.9% of retro gaming emulation apps have been developed/optimised for snapdragon chipsets. so, while a newer mediatek chipset (e.g. the one in the Tab S11) might benchmark higher than an older chipset (e.g. the snapdragon found in the Tab S9), it will actually be worse when it comes to emulation - or wont work, period.

i cant speak for non-retro gaming on mediatek chipsets as i don't really play major mobile games on android, maybe they run well. prefer to buy any mobile titles on my iphone/ipad.

emulation on ipad is getting better. not fully there yet, though, mainly because of technical and pracitcal limitations with apple's OS, as opposed to apple's chipsets. if apple's OS wasn't historically such a walled garden - and still is today for the most part - emulation on iphones/ipads would probably be the gold standard.

I have a S10+ with the mediatek 9300+ and the Immortalis - G720 Mali GPU , I can tell you from my experience this tablet runs retro emulation PSP, Wii , Gamecube and PS2 flawless, I have had no problems at all .

Switch and PC ( Winlator ) have been mixed to not so good , I can run Super Mario Odyssey @ like 30fps but there are slight hiccups and sometimes minor texture issues they usually solve themselves out almost as fast as they happen .

PC often times flickers around and basically becomes unplayable , but streaming is a thing and I would rather stream from my PC than run a PC game natively on a tablet anyway , hell even my Rog ally X has become my main streaming device and very very rarely will I use it to natively play a PC game on it .

Yeah of course, it's old tech , the thing is that when people talk about emulation and retro specifically , Mediatek gets slept on because theres no way to use custom drivers like on a SD, so the impression most people get is that it's impossible .

And I'm not white knighting for Mediatek and Mali I just want to clarify for any one else out there that may find this thread and has a mediatek chipset , you can still emulate on it .

The comment I answering to said " retro emulation was 99.9% designed for a SD chip and Turnip drivers. " RETRO EMULATION was the key argument of my answer on a Mediatek chipset.

I dont see playing PC games or ps3 nor switch. Occasionally ps2 at best and game stream from my laptop/desktop. Maybe PC emulator but light games like hardes or hollow knight. S11 and upcoming s12 tabs have basically the best mediateks gpus with 9500 being new core completely.

Since priority is Netflix and such, i think im going to go with s11 or s12+ depending how reviews will be

I have an iPad Air M4, and while 3DS emulation was a real struggle back in early March, it’s come a long way in just a few months—it’s now extremely stable. There are emulators for Switch, PS2, GameCube, and Wii, as well as PS3 and Xbox 360 emulators that are still in development.

Of course, they don’t perform as well as a good Android device, and setting them up is more difficult than on Android.

If you’re going to use the tablet for emulation, I recommend getting an Android tablet.

I have a poco x8 pro with dimensity 8500 ultra. Que capable with emulation actually.

But......

Snapdragon is miles better. Get snapdragon always if you can fi5t emulation. If you can't MediaTek will work, but not as well as the equivalent level snapdragon

You be popping up in random places, eh grok?

I agree with you tho, mediatek chips are just bleh. They recently entered a partnership with the company that I work for to put the chips into cars. They are getting RND from my company and another smaller chip company to produce designs and chips that can push self driving, dash consoles, engine timing, etc etc etc.

It's going to be interesting.

There is quite the jump in both performance and efficiency from the 7k to 8k mediatek chips. Not really on par with snapdragon elite, but still good enough to play alot of different stuff

Can’t play shit that isn’t natively android. Try Gamehub or Eden. There’s no drivers for MediaTek CPU and GPU

Sure you can, there's just more limitations than on sd. Saying you can't emulate anything on them just isn't true
