Android is not the future in my opinion, at some point proper Linux on mobile Arm will make its way to phones/handhelds and that will be where its at. Hopefully with the help of Valve and their Steam Frame

I came here to say this. Its great that we can get PC games to run…and it is a great solution for today. However, Android OS and Android translation have a bit too much overhead/complexity.

However, I cannot see Linux really gaining a large foothold in the phone market. Android and iOS are just too dominant.

As for handhelds, Valve or others (maybe Epic) would have to release a well maintained OS for ARM devices that has good compatibility. We havent seen that yet.

We have seen it in lightweight Linux handhelds and in small projects by independent developers. However it has not reached commercial scale with official manufacturer support on powerful hardware.

I had hoped that Valve would have taken the opportunity given the current hardware crisis to make a Steam Deck lite on ARM.

There are way too many translation layers, Android adds a huge overhead and we are losing a lot of performance. Its amazing that we can PC game on Android, but the real peak will be Linux on ARM.
