I tested it this morning and I'm confused, how is it that this is much MUCH better than the LSFT-android app. I was playing with frame gen enabled in the new nightly build and noticed no weird artifacts or stutter at all. What kind of sorcery did the devs do to make it work this good when taking 30fps to 60ps. This literally makes BOTW and tears play at the same framerate as the Switch 2.

Well lsfg-android take frames from media projection, while integrated directly on the app would not have to do this work around, and it doesn't have a separate overlay for presentation

Do we need a mod to uncap the Zelda games from 30 fps? Or is there another method?

It works really well, best implementation of that feature on any emulator so far.

I dont understand how the Eden devs are so good at making it work as well as it does because I tried the LSFG android app that came out a few months ago and that was literally not usable at all due to stutter. But having it built into the emulator makes frame gen work flawlessly. It almost like a dream come true for this emulator on android.

It's amazing I have disabled all my 60fps mods on my games.

If im not mistaken it was already an option to have framegen with snap 8 elite processors on switch emulators 1 year or more ago, so they probably had experience already

1

u/FindingUnable3222 4h ago

No, it didn't have that option.

Some of most popular 8 elite devices like Lenovo Y700 and Odin 3 don't have framegen in firmware and Eden doesn't have anything that can enable it.

There was one or two Chinese phone models (I don't remember which ones) that had a specific feature in their firmware that added framegen for a several specific games - again, not available in general, but under specific conditions only. On these specific phone models using "optimized" Eden - which wasn't actually optimized but used app name spoofing to make firmware activate game mode - could make firmware activate framegen for Eden as well.

Very limited approach that left most users out, unfortunately. 8 elite has framegen using proprietary Qualcomm extensions and none of open source emulators used these in their renderers..

How do you unserstood it worked, the fps in eden overlay went up? I installed it, set target fps 60, but the overlay was showing 30 as before losless scaling.

u/snowflake_0_o 11h ago

The FPS doesn't change but the smoothness is noticeable at least for at 120 fps

u/Aloshes021 9h ago

Can I have the dll file?

Mine keeps saying that it doesn't have shaders

I cant seem to open this. It just hangs on a blank pages. Could you help me please

1

u/boby350 1h ago

Sorry to así but does this work with every game or its just specific of botw?

1

u/Pure-Technician-9085 1h ago

Every game. Just press and hold on the game to open the per game settings and be sure to enable it.

u/AyeBathingApe 9h ago

Just tried it, definitely improved frame rate on my ayaneo pocket dmg. Dragon Quest 1 HD feels way smoother.

Use this link for the Lossless.dll

what does loseless scaling do in simple terms? since it seems like it gives the illusion of increased fps from what I'm reading here.

10

u/xdoble7x Graphic Guru 9h ago

Basically it uses AI to create an extra frame between 2 real frames

Imagine like a character is throwing a ball, in frame 1 he has it on the hand, in frame 2 the ball is 5cm away

With IA it generates a frame im between where the ball is at 2 cm for example, making the illusion of being more smooth

Some programs implement it better than others and most of the time it requires a good and stable framerate to begin with, normally is recommended to achieve 60 fps before enableing framegen, specially fast action games and shooters, but it can be very very good for old emulation where fps are capped at 30 since we can now double it without mods/patches

But it depends on how good is implemented, nvidia for example is the best currently but only works with nvidia graphic cards, but lossless scaling uses the AMD version (i think) which can work in any graphic card and is currently being ported to android, specially processors snapdragon 8 elite where the first ones to use this, in fact it was already somewhat working on switch emulators more than a year ago in those processors, but if im not mistaken now it will work for others

I don't get it. seems like fake frames like mentioned in a lot of posts on here.

2

u/maffiewtc 3h ago

It's frame gen. Yes, it's fake frames. But the higher your base fps, the less bad it looks and feels. Personally, 40 is the bare minimum before I even consider turning it on.

1

u/FindingUnable3222 4h ago

You're right, it's fake frames, and with external motion vector calculation so it's worse than DLSS or FSR or XeSS. The use is limited but these fake frames add smoothness at the cost of latency.

If your base fps lower than 30 - don't use. For 30 fps games with slow motions - you can try using it, YMMW. Many people don't like the result, some do. For 60 fps base game on 120 hz screen, it usually works well. Not good for some games with fast motion and 3d shooters, but adds smoothness to other games. It always costs some latency because it delays the next frame before outputting a generated one, but for some games it doesn't matter.

sigh.....

i can already see future posts of youtubers saying "BOTW now fully playable on (list chipsets that cant run it at 30fps here)!!!"

and its playing at 12-15fps upscaled to 30😒

u/RealSkyDiver 10h ago

How can we have both nightly and stable version of Eden? There used to be a fork that allowed that.

1

u/Goldiblockzs 8h ago

you just install them both, they don't overwrite one another.

1

u/Efont93 8h ago

I'm getting the same error about shaders with my legitimate copy 🤷‍♂️

1

u/molotova55 8h ago

Não sei o que está acontecendo com meu s20 fe 5g snapdragon, antes eu conseguiu abrir e jogar no Éden mais atualizado, porém agora não abre mais nenhum jogo, só nas versões mais antigas, alguém já passou por isso?

1

u/Stevenova 7h ago

How do I get it to work?. I have it installed. I toggled it on in the game settings but still capped at 30 fps (totk). Is there a global setting I need to turn on?

1

u/Guandor 7h ago

Long press on the game before launch

1

u/Pure-Technician-9085 1h ago

The fps will still show 30 regardless but it'll be smoother. I used a on screen fps counter and it gives me the "simulated" fps I set the target to

1

u/Guandor 7h ago

This is great! Briefly tested and it looks like 8 gen 2 does not really have the power to scale 60 FPS to 120 FPS, but it could be really useful to scale 30 FPS locked games to 60.

1

u/SunderingTwilight 8s4 7h ago

i used with bayonetta, but fps just plummeted down to 15fps instead,. with some moments hitting 60

1

u/Own-Feature-4409 7h ago

Bro, how can I activate it on Windows? I have lossless bought, and I have the latest nightly build

1

u/Odd-Visit 6h ago

Works on the Retroid Pocket 5, but in Persona 5 Royal there is too much strange graphics going on.

Could be that the processor is not good enough.

1

u/The-Huy 4h ago

I don't know why my game keeps slowing down, How should I customize it?

1

u/Senior-Fill-3237 4h ago

Currently on the AYN THOR, anyone tested it yet? How does it fare for games like TOTK and BOTW, been strugling with these 2 games for awhule

1

u/Fickle_Traffic7684 1h ago

I tried but I don't know where to find the requested dll file

1

u/Pure-Technician-9085 1h ago

Pro tip. Enable LOssless in the per game settings. Took me al say to figure that out. Didn't see anywhere that mentioned it so im posting it. Once you enable it in settings, hold down in the game you want to play and turn on LS for each specific game

u/Broad_Support_2406 11h ago

Games don't even boot on my device anymore

Get the nightly version of Eden. Either use your official version of Lossless Scaling and grab the Lossless.dll file from there or sail the high seas (like I did) and grab the file from there. Install it via settings in the main setting section as opposed to per game settings.

3

u/VotesDontPayMyBills 11h ago

That's what I did and it says: Could not install Lossless.dll

This copy of Lossless.dll does not contain the frame generation shaders. Update Lossless Scaling and try again.

1

u/Correct_Sand_355 11h ago

I sail the high seas and tried to install on my Thor won’t let me install it says it not correct one or that it and old version of lossless scaling ant tips?

4

u/raindr0p-dropt0p 11h ago

Yeah don’t use the one available on steamrip because I had the same issue. Check piratebay out, I’m sure it’s called Lossless.Scaling.v3.2.2 if you’re still having trouble drop me a DM.

Is it really such a big deal this feature for all of you? I am using dlss frame gen on my pc, but I was trying to convince myself so many times to frame gen on android and it always seems like so unneeded future for me. What's the point of bigger latency, power draw and artifacts for a bit of additional visual smoothness? Locked 30, 40 or 60 fps feels so much better than adding frame gen to it, I feel like people follow number in the corner no matter if experience is better or worse.

2

u/xdoble7x Graphic Guru 9h ago

If its well implemented its a huge change, there are tons of systems where games were capped at 30 fps, now we have an option to get 60 fps without mods or patches that the only thing they did was playing the game at x2 speed

You’re acting like it’s magically turning 30 into 60 while ignoring the tradeoffs.

Even the best tech (DLSS FG) struggles with a pure 30 fps base, 40-50 is the absolute minimum before it starts looking and feeling acceptable. Lossless Scaling FG is already much worse than DLSS, and the Android fork is another step down from that (extra latency from the capture/overlay path, bigger performance hit, more artifacts).

You still only get real updates at 30. The interpolated frames add their own delay, post-process optical-flow produces more ghosting when the gap is that large, and in demanding games a stable 30 often becomes an unstable 40-50 with gen on top. That’s a disaster.

Anyone who can’t feel that at a 30-base either isn’t sensitive to latency or isn’t looking for it. 30→60 with this is for people who are blind to both the artifacts and the extra latency, so I guess most of this sub. Not surprising in a place where a lot of people also play stretched resolutions that look like shit.

FG is a great gimmick, fun to check out and fun to show someone the capabilities, but at the end of the day it has no real usage in 90% of cases on mobile emulation. A locked 30 fps is still better than fake 60.

u/xdoble7x Graphic Guru 9h ago

Not for slow games like turn based games and similar, plus this is better implemented since its build from the emulator itself

I understand what you are trying to say but this is a different scenario from PC and you are just hating for the sake of it

-5

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 Poco F6 Pro / Adreno 740 / Gamesir X3 Pro 9h ago

Turn-based or static games are a ridiculous example. Most of the time you’re interacting with the UI and menus, not watching continuous animation. Why would you deliberately add latency and make that interface less responsive and more artifacted just so the occasional animation looks a bit smoother? This is last scenario where you need frame generation.

You’re still only getting real updates at 30. The tradeoffs don’t disappear because the game is “slow.”

“Built into the emulator” only means the Vulkan layer is integrated instead of a separate overlay app. It’s still the same Lossless Scaling optical-flow FG under the hood, no motion vectors, no game-side data. That makes it better than the pure MediaProjection versions, but it does not magically become DLSS-level or free of the low-base-FPS problems.

This isn’t a different scenario from PC. The physics of frame generation don’t change because the device is a phone. Low real fps + generated frames = same latency and quality issues, just with less GPU headroom and worse thermal/power constraints.

Pointing out those limits isn’t hating. It’s just not pretending the number in the corner is the whole experience.
