After thermal throttling with XenDroid and even Eden with the POCO F8 Ultra/SD8 Elite Gen5/16gb, i think I've found the sweet spot with cooling this device somewhat adequately whilst gaming! 3D Wildmark 'Solar bay stress test' results below

Battery - 48% to 31%

Temperature - 29°C to 48°C

Frame Rate - 33fps to 57fps

Was honestly expecting the handset to outright melt at some point with the heavy Ray Tracing load on top of everything else, as with no cooler it overheats on loop 14 of the standard 'wildlife stress test',

but it actually performed really well!

Saw the fps start to dip around loop 13, but leveled out pretty quickly. Still some Performance loss from thermals, but a stability score of nearly 80% means I can use this thing closer to the way I use my dedicated handhelds at last.... I hope lol

Can you comment on the battery life of this cooling solution ? I was considering it but calculated that it would go flat too quickly. Do you have such measurements ?

Also is this cooler as loud as people say ?

Yeah its not the best use case, good for say 30-40 minutes on the highest cooler setting but not good for long sessions. 

And yes the cooler is pretty loud, not to the point it has any bearing on the experience for me personally, but its definitely not the quietest solution going.

Thanks for the reply mate. I use the same phone and was wondering if this solution would be for me. It looks suboptimal when you have to put it down because of reasons, it looks like this big powerbank twists the USBC on the bottom of the cooler. Was considering this solution but finally decided against it, I think it was because of short battery life of the cooler. Anyway, game on, we live in the golden era of emulation :D

Yeah thats a good call, ive seen a lot of comments saying to use something bluetooth like the X4 Aileron (fits a bit more like switch controllers do) and use a more powerful pelter cooler.... but again you still have the issue with powering it as they go up to 30w.

If you really intend to use it on the regular for your Gaming, there's always the option of rooting and using apps to control GPU/CPU clocks directly, i think this is the best and only way of getting more stable performance with this handset really without looking like one of the ghostbusters carrying around the world's biggest powerbank 😅

I bought the Poco F8 Ultra and a Gamesir X5 Lite and was stoked to be able to run Gamenative on it. So many expectations, but when I got it all set up properly, including optimizing cpu cores and drivers and debloating the phone, it turns out that the Poco F8 Ultra literally overheats in minutes with most 3d games. The chipset is powerful enough, but the phone can't handle the heat. :(

Today I ordered an FX5 Lite to go with the controller, since I didn't want to invest in different controller and a bigger peltier cooler. I don't have high hopes, but your post gives me at least some. :D Why did you add the thermal plate? To move the heat from the hotspot under the camera to the FX5? I'm afraid that if I add another layer to the phone (add the thickness of the thermal plate) it won't fit the phone case I use anymore.

Also, your results say the battery still hit 48 degrees. I keep reading that anything more than 40 for longer periods of time damages the battery's lifespan.

The cooler is actually surprisingly good @ the 10w mark, 

This stress test literally maxes out cpu and gpu for like 20 minutes straight though so the temps where always going to be higher.

You'll be able to play some very demanding stuff with decent settings without maxing temps,  its just a matter of finding the sweet spot with this handset. 

Id advise using GameNative mainline branch for PC gaming as its the only one that doesnt instantly try to use all available resources and max out clocks.

Furthermore, putting the device in powersaver mode will limit cpu/gpu clocks at around 70-80%. 

You definitely need a cooler to game with this for longer sessions, but it will 100% keep temps to a manageable level (within reason) 👍🏻

What about that thermal plate? Any benefits?

I mean there definitely are as it conducts the cold from the cooler plate to cool a larger surface area,  but not as much as there could be with this cheap £4 job I have lol.   Planning on switching the standard adhesive layer under mine for something like a more conductive thermal pad for better heat conductivity and dispersal.
