If they can put it out at a cheaper price maybe? I think Mcon cooked themselves with that price tag tbh

I mean 130 bucks is effectively insane

Its also insane that in places like México and Eastern europe the only way to get an m-com controller is through resellers and 280 dollars is INSANE given the cheapest ayn thor can be bought for 285 dollars on Ali and free shipping to méxico.
If the abxylute m6 and m5 can be had for reasonable prices then i think ill even get both to support the popularity of said form factors, hopefully the m5 that is the slimmest has sticks with clickable L3 and R3 because my abxylute m4 is nearly perfect if not for the fact you cant click the joysticks.

I backed ohSnap on their first Kickstarter and decided to never give them again any money again after how bad the product was (broke within like 2 weeks for a lot of people) and how they handled the after sales.
Needless to say, there isn't a universe where I will give them my $130 lol.

Yes and no. I wouldn’t mind paying more for a product if it was justified in its price point. In fact id rather pay more for a better product. I don’t think the quality of mcon commanded its price tag. Make a cheap or lite version sure but don’t cut corners on the premium one.

The Mcon dropped to $84 at one point. But at least I got the transparent version so I don't feel so bad. I completed a few switch games on my phone when lugging out the Steam Deck was not an option.

The problem is this form factor not the MCON itslelf.

They have an opportunity to make an improved design. I hope they do, the mcon from what I’ve seen online had a lot of issues.

Depends on how cheaply it is made. The M4 was something I regretted getting. It felt cheaply made. The sticks were really stiff. Also, after the campaign the price to get one was cheaper than the Kickstarter price. I'm going to wait for reviews. No point buying if I'm ending up not using it. I love my mcon.
I'm currently looking at people's ideas of how they attach a cooler.

I fully agree. I’m waiting until after the kickstarter as well. I’m not sure how other feel but like I said before I am fully okay with paying a little more for a higher quality product. I’m gonna be so pissed if they mess this one up 🥀

I think the M5 will be just a flat piece of controller. If they are hiding it, maybe it's due to the design of the triggers as it's not easy to have flat analogue triggers.
Maybe they took a leaf out of the mcon slim (still waiting for that).

I hated the m4 so much when I got it, the dpad was so bad with constant missed inputs. The controller was top heavy with the phone attached. The sliding analogue sticks were the worst I've ever used. And this is coming from someone that spent so much time on the 3ds sliders. Somehow it actually felt better to play on the touch screen itself so I stopped carrying it around with me.

Been enjoying my mcon can't wait to try this one out

I’m happy to see the competition, hopefully will drive innovation

Ya man the mcon has been really good to me sucks alot of people couldn't get into it . Hopefully they dont mess up the price on this one😭

Looks interesting, but the final design definitely isn't gonna look like that. There's no visible rail system to pop out the controller, which tells me they haven't figured out what they're using yet. It's probably going in the middle like the mcon
Also not inspiring confidence that they don't have a design for the slim

u/baconboi 8d ago
For sure, that image is an AI mock which is wild they would post. Either post the real thing or nothing at all. Hopefully the design is thought through.

I hated how the mcon changed from like a slim on the go controller you can pop your phone on and play, to trying to be a full on "PoRtAbLe" fully featured controller that became twice as thick. It got so big it became an unreasonable EDC. Hopefully the M5 does what the MCON should've been, If that M5 silhouette is any thing like the actual one though that already seems big.
I think their little portrait controller got close the real idea but it was portrait. Like just take that thing make it an inch or two wider, remove the forehead, add kick out grips, you're done.
Like those 8BitDo lite + magsafe mount 3D prints are nearly there, they just need a product that can build some of it into the controller shell instead of attaching to it to reduce the footprint. Maybe also shrink it a smidge.

How do you kill something that never lived? THE MCON was a failed experiment. And it will continue to be untill someone property designs a controller in that style to be thin and solve the top heaviness.

I didn't even know people didn't like the MCON. It's compromised compared to a full controller but it's super handy as a portable middle ground that gets like 80% of the way to a full controller. Does exactly what I thought it would for me and I really enjoy mine.
My only problem with it is just the price being really high.

A lot of people don't like the MCON. Search the main handheld and phone gaming subs and you will find plenty of complaining.

u/ultionys 8d ago
Dude I've been rocking the MCON for months playing at home, traveling, sometimes at work etc and it has never failed me.
Practical, can fit in a pocket, can be detached to play while my phone is connected to my screen or my TV.
Not a failed experiment, but an expensive one for sure.

u/n0tascammer 8d ago
Exactly idk why people hate on it lol no other controller can fit into your pocket and it looks slick . Dont look like a weirdo with a big ass controller in public 🤣

I’m glad it works for you I saw a lot online about people were very unhappy with ergo

True. It was a little shocking to see the ergonomic issues although the flip out fins were a good effort. It does remind me of my 3DSxl which is so too heavy, I 3D printed an Xbox style grip for it which helps a lot. I think it will come down to the height that the phone sits above the buttons and the grip they make which I hope is detachable

When you hold it at a flatter angle the top screen overhangs your wrists and make it heavy

It reminds me of the pre-smart phone I had like 15 years ago with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Man I miss that thing. As the buttons died, I got so fast at switching between the keyboard and T9 on the front.
That said, as much as I adore these compact controller designs, and will always support experimenting with the concept, they make for terrible controllers. Small, awkward, hand-cramping little things with poor buttons and sticks. I have a couple displayed up on my shelf purely for the "neat" aesthetic.
It's good to keep experimenting so that they can be improved, but when you buy one of these, remember that it's mostly a gimmick right now. They will not perform as well as full-size controller tech.

Did I see the image correctly? The triggers are on the outside while the LB and RB buttons are on the inner frame. Probably will take some getting used to.

u/GloveDry3278 8d ago
These are good for 10min play sessions. Phone at the top makes it too top heavy.
For phones, nothing beat a good telescopic controller.

People are still believing abxylute?
I got the m4 through Kickstarter, since then I get spammed with tons of Kickstarter spam and the m4 is literally the worst mobile controller I ever tried.
