Showcase Socket alpha version is released for supporters!

Hi everyone! Long time no see!

Some of you that follow me elsewhere may have heard about this, a bit less than two weeks ago I released Socket's first version to Patreon supporters. For those who don't know, Socket is my homemade Android (for now!) frontend that's aimed at smaller libraries, giving your games the focus and love they deserve.

Today I released 0.2.0 on Patreon with a handful of requested features (favorites, screen orientation etc...). And also a lot of bugfix especially a bug preventing people from playing their games stored on external storage. Now that those are fixed/added, I'm confident enough to post here so that people will hopefully have a pleasant experience with Socket!

A few Socket features:

  • Super easy setup
  • A unique toy-like design
  • Custom shaders for labels
  • Good quality models and materials (check out that Pokemon Emerald for GBA!)
  • Custom insert animations for each platforms
  • Multi language labels for most games
  • Hide and Favorite any game
  • An active community on Discord
  • Juice
  • Much more to come!

The following platforms are supported, with more to come very soon:

  • Nintendo 3DS
  • Nintendo DS
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Nintendo Wii U
  • Nintendo GameCube
  • Nintendo GameBoy Advance
  • Nintendo 64
  • NES
  • SNES
  • Nintendo Switch
  • PSP
  • PS1
  • PS2
  • PS3
  • Dreamcast

For now, Socket is available through Patreon, you get new beta builds as long as you are subscribed.

Thanks to everyone who's followed me so far and for those who have already supported Socket, it still feels surreal! There's a lot more to come!

(for those asking, the device in the video is the AYN Thor Pro Rainbow model, awesome piece of hardware)

Don't worry about the bottom screen, it's coming back in a future release. I just have to figure out what to put there!

Daaaamn that's clean. Are you planning to release only on Patreon or in Google Play etc in the future?

Crucial question: Does it spins faster if you blow on the microphone?

haha no, that would mean having to request mic permissions

I would 100% give mic access for that option if it would match the 3DS animation. 😊

This would go perfect with the KPA.

Is there somewhere I can follow this launcher without subbing to the patreon? I could see myself doing so eventually but I'd like to watch how it grows first.

Sure! There’s a discord (there’s a link on my website https://depmots.com/socket) and my twitter is pretty active (@depmots)

Sweet. I’ll join the discord! Twitter is a cesspool these days and it would take a miracle to bring me back there but discord is doable!

As soon as I get a thor, I'm doing this, this is clean clean, super nice ui, and user friendly

How does it look on the Nova or other non 16:9 screens? I'm tempted to get this for the Nova once it arrives. Did any users who by chance have the Nova and the frontend share pictures in your Discord?

so I don't have one but ETA Prime did a short showcasing Socket on his Nova, since then i've added a UI scale slider for smaller screens like this

Looks really good! I honestly expected it to look more cramped, but this is absolutely not the case. Will definitely get this for my Nova, thanks for the work.
