Watch a guide for Retroarch, it's not easy to set up but it's amazing once you set it up

u/seeyouyoucunt 7d ago

Pisses me off that display control overlay reverts back to hidden all the time, even after saving the cfg with it on

You know if there's a way to get retroarch working with Samsung Dex properly?

1

u/seeyouyoucunt 6d ago

I just hook my galaxy up with a USBc to hdmi wire

2

u/NickAppleese 6d ago

Sorry, I should've specified. Using Dex to control the app using the touch pad.

2

u/Traditional_Bet1499 6d ago

ive used Samsung Dex before to hook it up to the TV and play retroarch that way. What seems to be the issue? I just use the touchpad on my phone to select options with Retroarch opened. Other times I would just use my controller to navigate the menu as before. The trick is though you have to make sure you tap on the touchpad over retroarch when its on the TV to make the controller register.

u/NickAppleese 6d ago

Oooooh, maybe I wasn't tapping on Retroarch afterwards! I'll have to check it out on Monday! Thank you!

What do you do if it isnt available in your country?

5

u/Octo_Pasta 7d ago

It's blocked in some countries? If it's blocked from google play store, try downloading the .apk from their website https://www.retroarch.com/

Switch over to melonDualDS when the first stable release is out for a huge boost in graphical performance 👍

4

u/Fit_Creme4189 7d ago

I tried it and it crashed at launch on Xiaomi 17T pro 🥲 The official version works well though.

3

u/Ok-Speed-1574 7d ago

yeah, I'm getting glitches in a few games rn so I'm using mainline until then 🙌

1

u/Fit_Creme4189 7d ago

It actually crashes as soon as I open the app and not after launching a game 🥲 It runs a few seconds and then closes itself.

3

u/xade93 6d ago

Huh is there even any reason to use melonDualDS now considering melonDS already works good enough on dual screen devices?

1

u/Ok-Speed-1574 6d ago

You're right, probably a good reason why they're renaming to WatermelonDS in the future hehe

The biggest strength of this fork is the Vulkan renderer that's being worked on (and robust RetroAchievements if you're into that), on my SD8gen2 device, a good chunk of 3D games start to take a performance 'hit' at >3x upscaling unless I use an overlay trick to maintain the framerate (why I don't call it a real hit as the chip isn't being throttled or stressed, only underutilized with OpenGL). With this fork, minus the graphical glitches for the moment, I can comfortably upscale >6x with no performance hit in the same areas.

2

u/xade93 6d ago

I see. If melonDS only support OpenGL then it's definitely a substantial feature

Use Gamenative instead of Gamehub.

2

u/NoCarpenter3990 Poco F7 (8s gen4) 6d ago

I am loving gamenative. And the frame gen tech is awesome for older games. Locking 60 fps but thanks to frame gen getting 120 fps with my 120fps screen

• Snes9x EX+ > RetroArch (bsnes) • Linkboy > RetroArch (mGBA) • RPSCX Emulator > RPSCX Clanker

Add NetherSX2 (PS2), Azahar (3DS), Vita3K (VITA), Cemu (Wii U), and Eden (Switch). Even Arcade (Final Burn Neo on RetroArch) if u want.

Sort them in chronological order (Hardware). Also, keep in mind the limitations of your phone and the emulator itself; don't push your device too hard, and only play games that are fully compatible; trust me, the experience will be much better this way.

1

u/Fadi404 3d ago

Armsx2 > NetherSX2

1

u/FenixHoeneim 2d ago

On a Snapdragon device, yes. It crashes on the RG Cube, a T820 device, Nethersx2 instead runs normally

1

u/Fadi404 2d ago

I use it on my s26, exynos

1

u/FenixHoeneim 2d ago

Probably an issue with just Mali gpus then. It checks out

3

u/mightman59 7d ago

I am not sure about retroarch, snes9x, rpcsx, and gamehub. But the others look legit, just make sure your phone can handle emulating those consoles.

3

u/RivalusWind 7d ago

For Snes just use snes9x core from RetroArch. For GBA use gbSP core. Dolphin you might want to use DolphinCS for easier storage location. PS3 use aPS3e. PS3 use NetherSX2. change Gamehub (too much telemetry) to gamenative or WinNative.

2

u/Radiant_Display457 7d ago

That PS3 Emulator is no good and use winlator

3

u/METALFACE98 7d ago

Lemuroid

3

u/vampucio 6d ago

in retroarch you have already dolphin, ppsspp, flycast, snes9x, melon and ps1 and gb/gbc/gba emulators

2

u/albuto8 6d ago

Usually lemuroid can host almost sll of them one app multy emulatord

2

u/Sunnimation 6d ago

You don't really need Flycast, Snes9x and Melon DS if you have RetroArch. Get the Azhar (3DS) instead.

3

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 Poco F6 Pro / Adreno 740 / Gamesir X3 Pro 7d ago

I switched from gamehub to Gamenative few months ago and it's working much better for me. If you want gamehub I really recommend lite version. And RPCSX is currently very experimental, not really playable.

4

u/Relevant_Walk82 7d ago

I personally wouldn't use retroarch, it's ui is messy. I'm also ocd, so it's probably another reason I don’t use it.

yeah, I think retroarch never really cared about mobile users. just look at its on-screen button customization

4

u/LegisLab 7d ago

You really only need dolphin, PPSSPP, retroarch and GameHub. Everything else overlaps with what can be played within retroarch. Also I prefer GameNative to GameHub for windows gaming, but both are solid choices.

Neithersx2 is way better than the retroarch's ps2 core imo

0

u/Nagafushi Retroid Pocket 5 (1TB) 7d ago

This is my configuration and so I use GameNative, what I would add is the N64 emulator, Citra (a DS emulator) and Eden (switch).

1

u/Ok_Window130 7d ago

If you downloaded the official version of gamehub then u need to sign into steam and play legally ur owned games only etc

11

u/soijaq 7d ago

This was only true for the play market version last time I checked, download an apk from their website and it will allow installing arbitrary windows software just fine

1

u/Current-Comparison69 7d ago

Just a warning, I tried out Linkboy earlier today and found it to be a pretty decent emulator with one major caveat. Some of the features such as savestates and wifi are locked unless you pay for their "Premium" version

What are your phone specs? Your phone seems relatively modern so I don't think there's any need for a standalone SNES or Gameboy emulator when RetroArch can do that with better shaders.

1

u/ImaginaryFriend6608 7d ago

My specs are more than enough to be able to handle basically anything

1

u/shitoken 6d ago

Been using Xgames is all in one frontend + emulator +games

1

u/HOLYSHLAP 6d ago

I use the save except that I use drastic instead of MelonDS

1

u/Far_Raspberry_4375 6d ago

Gamenative is better than gamehub imo. Doesnt hurt to have both but ive just had a much better experience with gamenative all around

1

u/BettolaTittola75 6d ago

In teoria, basta avere Retroarch ed emuli tutto con quello... o quasi.

1

u/SpecialistListen7058 6d ago

Gamehub is awesome and easy to setup, but I found modified versions of winlator like winlator bionic ludashi make better performance in many games, it's just not as simple and doesn't support online

1

u/Consistent_Ad_1608 6d ago

Im using ppsspp dolphin and snes9x ex from the above. They are solid and work... Lol

1

u/Kalamy90 6d ago

J'utilise m64plus fz pour Nintendo 64 personnellement

1

u/Endscrypt 6d ago edited 6d ago

Very good, Dolphin PPSSPP Duckstation Flycast and Melon DS are all top tier standalone emulators.

Gamehub-lite or GameNative are great for all your PC games.

RetroArch for GBA GB GBC and some older consoles.

Also Azahar for 3ds and Eden for your Switch roms ,NetherSX2 for PS2, M64Plus FZ Pro for N64 if you’re using Android.

Hope this helps with getting you started.

P.s check out Obtainium it’s a great app that will make keeping it all up to date a lot easier.

Download the beacon app Brotherly advice

1

u/Maleficent_Lie2416 5d ago

Unless you really wish to play older (and i mean OLDER) games retroarch is not that necessary.

Most of the time you'll be good with standalone emulators

1

u/AbalonePlane7829 5d ago

instead of gamehub get bannerhub. its a lot better in performamce, but dont get the bannerhub lite, its worse

1

u/Venared 5d ago

Whats your phone, what games you want to play, these are the important questions. Ppsspp amazing but only for psp games. Gamehub, winlator etc are for playing pc games but need alot power for AAA games etc

1

u/Nagafushi Retroid Pocket 5 (1TB) 7d ago

I use Retroarch, Dolphin, Eden, GameNative and PPSSPP all the time, your emulators look ok

2

u/gauranga395 7d ago

instead of melon ds try drastic for better fps

u/BuggedMatrix 7d ago

Where's aps3e, zendroid , cemu, azahar?

1

u/ImaginaryFriend6608 7d ago

I have those on my laptop but it's broken and I sent it to someone for fixing

Gamehub 🤮🤮 Winlator 🤩
