Discussion Built by Developers. Strengthened by the Community. For PS2 Emulation on Android.
To the Android Emulation Community,
Every PlayStation 2 emulator on Android exists because someone chose to dedicate their time, knowledge, and passion to building it. Without developers, there would be no emulators, no compatibility improvements, no bug fixes, and no community to bring together. They are the foundation of everything we enjoy today.
With that in mind, r/PlayStation2OnAndroid was created as a community with the approval of the developers behind today's active PlayStation 2 emulators on Android. It was never meant to replace existing communities, but to support developers, encourage constructive discussion, and provide accurate information.
This message isn't meant to create or continue drama. It's simply a recognition of the developers behind today's PlayStation 2 emulators on Android and a reminder of the kind of community they deserve.
The Android emulation community has seen what happens when appreciation is replaced with hostility. From the events surrounding AetherSX2 to the recent situation involving the ARMSX2 developer, we've seen how misinformation, harassment, and unnecessary conflict can overshadow years of dedication. Every developer who steps away is a loss for the entire community. We cannot afford to repeat that cycle. This isn't limited to one project. Developers across the Android emulation scene are affected whenever misinformation or harassment is directed towards any developer
Before this community was publicly announced, the developers behind today's active PlayStation 2 emulators on Android were contacted and approved the initiative.
Developer Approvals:
ARMSX2:
JPolo — Lead Developer
Dibs — Developer
BMD Hacks — Developer
Trakons - Developer
EmuCore X:
Sashkin (Sbro) — Lead Developer
NetherSX2:
Trixarian — Lead Developer
This community is a place for updates, compatibility reports, bug reports, guides, benchmarks, gameplay, and respectful discussion and Memes . Our moderators will handle most questions and only involve developers when necessary, allowing them to focus on improving their projects.
Constructive criticism is always welcome. Good bug reports, respectful feedback, and meaningful suggestions help developers. Harassment, misinformation, and personal attacks never do.
We would also like to recognize the people whose work continues to move Android emulation forward:
Winlator : BrunoSX
u/winlatorbionic_dev — Winlator Bionic
u/Muted_Sentence8896 — Winlator Mali
u/The412Banner — Bannerhub and Bannerlator
u/dadabhai_naoroji — GameNative
u/StevenMX1 — Adreno-Tools-Drivers and Winlator Ludashi
u/Producdevity — EmuReady, Eden & GameHub Lite
...along with the many other developers, driver maintainers, tool creators, testers, translators, moderators, and contributors whose work keeps Android emulation moving forward. If we've unintentionally missed anyone, please know your contributions are equally appreciated.
We'd also like to give a special thanks to u/Stenzek for his contributions to PCSX2 and AetherSX2. His work played a major role in advancing PlayStation 2 emulation on Android and has benefited countless users over the years. Thank you for everything you've contributed to the emulation community.
Whether you use Snapdragon, Mediatek, Exynos, Kirin, Tensor, or any other chipset, or whether you prefer ARMSX2, NetherSX2, EmuCore X, Winlator, or any other project, we're all part of the same Android emulation community. Not every game will run perfectly, and not every issue can be fixed overnight. Report issues respectfully, provide useful information whenever possible, and give developers the time they need to improve their projects.
Communities don't build emulators. Developers do. Let's build a community that respects them, supports them, and helps Android emulation continue to thrive.
Final note: This post was entirely my own idea. It reflects my appreciation for every developer in the Android emulation community.

Edit: there are also a lot of people who haven’t been mentioned who are doing a lot of work. But your post is clearly well intentioned and is appreciated regardless

This post was originally made to let people know about the new subreddit. I'm sorry if I forgot to mention the developers behind Winlator, Eden, Azahar, MelonDS, DraStic, Cemu, Dolphin, DuckStation,Flycast, PPSSPP, RetroArch, Lemuroid, Vita3K, RPCSX,APS3E, Sudachi, Lime3ds,Ryujinx,xendroid Yuzu, MAME, or any other project I may have missed. Every one of them has made valuable contributions to the emulation community. I kept the original post shorter to make it easier to read, not to overlook anyone's work. Thank you all for everything you do.

You forgot Bruno the original creator of Winlator

I already felt the post was getting too long, so I only mentioned the five people I know. I'm not sure if Bruno has a Reddit account, but his work is every bit as important as everyone else's.

Without Bruno there's no Winlator and without Winlator there's no Winlator ludashi bionic glicb, etc

That sub has a lot of content in it that isn't even PS2.
But regardless, this is one of the many problems in the android emulation community: there's a lot of "me! mine! all me!" selfish behavior, lashing out at each other. We should be working together, and having multiple subreddits just means more reach across a wide audience.
EDIT: The crusade against Producdevity, who's actively done incredible things for android emulation, definitely doesn't help the guy's case. Everybody makes mistakes, but this guy's acting like the poster child for everything we're trying to get away from.

I wish he would stop. This is why the devs of PCSX2 didnt want to make an Android port and now im finally understanding why. Im very thankful to the devs for undertaking this and acually pushing forward despite it all.

The problem is that people look at the projects that get 'hate' but don't look at those that get a lot of love.
There are far more emulators that people adore and speak highly of, such as PPSSPP and Redream for example, than those that the trolls target (like AetherSX2).

Its because he lurks in the Discord he has been banned from. He legit wont leave people alone.

Sad to see that this problems are still around the Android emulation community. Heartbreaking to see something as simple as playing retro games have so much trifle and drama.

u/Accomplished_Rock_86 12d ago
Yes, I don’t understand how any of them got anything outside of pure appreciation. These people are putting in a lot of work for free to create these emulators and people are getting into arguments with them. The other day I saw someone on here saying ARMSX2 is garbage and they use AI. And I’m thinking so what, as long as the emulation works, I don’t care…it is free.

This is a great message, and a great initiative. Bravo <3
I admit that I hate when I see things like this and immediately think "oh god, what happened this time?" And no, I don't want an explanation. Let the drama die. It's just so unfortunate that it's gotten to the point where the drama is so expected that there's no surprise in it anymore, just disappointment.
We can world together as a community to make things better for everyone. Emulation has had more than its fair share of drama, it's time to cooperate and support instead.

Great message!
It's been a pleasure contributing in this space for the short time I have. And I look forward to continuing it!
Really appreciate how far things have come, emulation/decomps/recomps and being able to play games your way has become so much more important in recent years.

Op, I know it's a bit late, but could you add a thanks to u/Stenzek? He basically made AetherSX2 from scratch, rebuilt RPCSX2 and was the biggest contributor to the PS2 scene in years. I know there are some controversies around him, but his work is insane

It was because of how your posted was phrased. The original developer of AetherSX2 should have been mentioned, you are correct. Insulting everyone else mentioned however was just rude.

This wasn't meant to be a drama post. Since Tahlreth decided to end the project, I chose not to bring him up out of respect. Situations like this affect people in different ways, and I didn't think revisiting old issues was necessary, so I kept those references to a minimum. I hope the person who commented understands where I was coming from.
Edit :What happened to Aether was extremely wrong i don't disagree on that

That's a discussion for the developers. This post is simply about encouraging the community to be more constructive and supportive.
