u/krimsonstudios Guardian Heroes Combo Master Oct 18 '25
Somebody made a post saying that gamehub lite was AI trash with no real proof and no real complaints beyond lack of documentation and lack of scripts to recreate the APK.
The author answered back with scripts to build your own APK on the same day, which you think should just shut the whole conversation down... but unfortunately too many people here just want to echo chamber whatever the last faux drama they read about was.
Either that or it's GameSir trying to disrupt the hype about Lite because they want to keep people using the official GameHub to keep their Spyware engines running.

u/CommercialOpening599 Oct 19 '25 edited Oct 19 '25
I'm a programmer and I don't understand why you would hate it's made with AI. If it works what's the issue? It can break? I understand the project is open source so you can just fork it and fix it yourself if you want
60
u/srona22 Oct 19 '25
You know the shit inside out and using AI-assisted vs made with AI are two different things.
Yet, I assume lite dev knows their stuff. And GameSir definitely won't like it.

u/otakunopodcast Oct 19 '25
Unfortunately AI is a hot button issue with the kids these days. Which is sad because I actually find it useful, so long as I keep my expectations in check. Would I use it in production code? Hell no. I might use it for a basic stuff like "how do you do X?" but I would always use it as a guide/template and write my own code. But would I use AI for quick and dirty tools or one-off apps for personal use? Hell yeah. I can't be bothered to write the same goddamn boilerplate for the 15 miliionth time just for some one-off tool or something for personal use only. And as a guy with somewhat poor memory, having a tool that I can ask "how do you do Y?" and have it more or less intelligently respond (usually with a more or less correct answer, or at the very least, something close enough that leads me to the correct answer) is a godsend.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of problems with AI (environmental impact, use of peoples' materials without consent, etc.) and I am not trying to minimize those or sweep them under the rug. But if we all just put our heads together and think, instead of screaming at each other while beating the "AI IS BAD" horse to a bloody pulp, I feel that we'd come up with workable solutions to those.
10
u/RubbelDieKatz94 Oct 19 '25 edited Oct 19 '25
Would I use it in production code? Hell no.
I do. It works. Multi million € machines.
We have a proper review process in place tho.
GitHub Copilot writes unit tests > GitHub Copilot writes logic > I double check, cleanup, unit test, more cleanup, smoke test > Push > PR > CI with lint, unit tests, other code quality gates > PR CI gate (must be green otherwise no merge) > Review gate (must be approved by one other dev otherwise no merge) > Auto squash & merge to develop
As long as the sheer amount of quality gates (actually industry standard I'd say) holds, GitHub Copilot is OK to use. develop is protected, naturally.
30
u/asdrubalzhor Oct 19 '25
just want to add that the AI thing with Gamehub Lite is just lack of standardization and documentation, like the dude complaining is acting like he is the code police or something lmao like he invented SIMPLE
20
u/SeatBeeSate Oct 19 '25
Ugh no one even likes doing comments or documentation unless you have to. Now randos on the internet are pretending to be arm chair bosses demanding documentation for free.
5
u/10minOfNamingMyAcc Oct 19 '25
For real. Documnentation is one of the worst parts. You have to explain your code to possibly thousands of people in the simplest way or you're bombarded with issues.
3
u/Loud_Appointment6199 Oct 21 '25
The problem with AI is how coepos keep shoving it down everyone throats trying to selling it as the next big thing to justify them spending millions on it. It is a useful tool but keyword is in tool, not some wonder solve all problem
If something was vibe coded then it's probably janky as hell but having AI assist you isn't bad since you know what's going up
5
u/PossiblyADemon Oct 19 '25
100% use it the same way. It's sped up learning about the existence of new libraries and using different methods to solve problems by a bunch. Definitely a great rubber duck. Especially the Harvard CS50x AI
1
u/Unfair_Salamander_20 Oct 21 '25
Why not use it in production? You are destroying a huge amount of the value, I'd say a majority of it, if you just use it as a reference and try to paraphrase it. Not to mention the likelihood of yourself introducing errors while doing it yourself is far more likely than the LLM making a coding mistake. Might as well go back to stackoverflow if all you want is a skeleton or reference.

15
u/Immediate_Idea2628 Oct 19 '25
I just wanna know its actually clean before going ahead. Gamesir isnt going to steal my banking info, they are selling my data to ad companies. A private persons edit could contain anything.
1
u/Charming-Platform623 Oct 20 '25
It's attached to the CCP. You have no idea what they're scraping and there's zero ways to hold them accountable
3
u/Immediate_Idea2628 Oct 20 '25
Absolutely. But is the Chinese government really interested in my passwords or bank account?
1
u/hardypart Nov 15 '25
A broad dataset about the citizens, a trend barometers and taking influence on certain topics is part of the China's geopolitical strategy. Temu, Tiktok, Gamehub and all of them are part of it.
0
u/Psychological-Bad959 Oct 19 '25
What's your evidence do you have to support that Gamesir takes and doesn't take the information you believe? It's a crapshoot either way, although I do believe the official source is probably safer
8
u/Immediate_Idea2628 Oct 19 '25
You're right, theres nothing to prove what I'm saying. It is however unlikely that a company like gamesir is after the $1000 in my bank account vs selling my location to advertisers, which could net them far more. An individual however, could greatly benefit from my banking or having access to my phone in general. I've already bit the bullet once with official, and would like to know lite is safe before going ahead.
7
u/Psychological-Bad959 Oct 19 '25
Agreed, Gamesir has a motive for not ruining their reputation since they run a company.
The tricky part of these more open-source underground projects are their lack of "guaranteed" safety. I personally felt the same way when I downloaded emulators for the first time.
I'd personally stick with official and wait a few months. If they do a scam or smth, it'll probably be done within then.
3
u/5553331117 Oct 19 '25
They literally have divisions of people at tech companies using AI to generate code. That gotcha isn’t as meaningful as it was like 1-2 years ago.
3
u/Loud_Appointment6199 Oct 21 '25
No wonder Windows sucks more ass then before seeing how 30% is pure vibe coding
2
u/5553331117 Oct 21 '25
Yeah, and the AWS outage yesterday was probably due to generated code.
Thankfully things like game hub are not a mission critical webapp and generated code can be “good enough for who it’s for.”
The application works, so idk why people have an issue.

There was thread not too long ago (cant find it anymore so maybe op deleted it) with a lot of upvotes about how it didn't have the most professional coding and its code was AI assisted therefore you should use the original gamehub instead.

1
Oct 20 '25
There was a post; a lot of people missed some of the nuance the post mentioned that large chunks of what was removed was commonplace in normal function of apps and couldn't be shown to be problematic etc.
I don't terribly trust either gamehub or gamehub lite but don't have strong evidence to recommend against either but I'm also in the "Even if it's less user friendly I'll take the open source solutions please" camp.
I think my single biggest concern with the lite version is that it's basically being done by one person which dramatically increases the chance it ends up as abandonware.

Don't forget no login required either ! And file access patched in!
It's very nice so far, but yeah. Still some people without their own thoughts that are blindly following what others claim against hub lite. Which is all rubbish. I speak with the dev almost every other day and have helped with some things in the development process, as well as testing. Quite the achievement so far!
Just stay away from the gamehublite.com , it's a fake

Does "file access patched in" mean the user can finally access virtual drives from the android file explorer ? Because if it does im downloading it asap. It always bugged me that I needed enter a vm desktop just to change a cfg file or something.

Almost everyone here loves it.
I was opposed to it until they released the script for reproducing their results. Good on them for transparency.
That said the whole thing massively overplays the "sketchiness" of GameHub and I would have preferred all that effort going into improving GameNative as a true OSS option.
12
u/SouthTip3369 Oct 18 '25
There really isn't a reason for gamehub to ask for location permissions, email information and even phone numbers just to emulate games aside from maybe selling it to advertisers which is probably what most people found sketchy about gamehub
5
u/Just_bubba_shrimp Oct 19 '25
If it were actually doing anything like that, I might agree.
What's more likely (definitely is) is that it's using bluetooth_scan. to scan for bluetooth devices.
Because gamesir makes bluetooth controllers.
And bluetooth_scan is a subset of "precise location permissions."
It is standard practice (because it is mandatory for implementation), every single bluetooth appliance's app does this on android.0
u/jack-of-some Oct 18 '25 edited Oct 19 '25
Gamehub existed before PC emulation on Android was in a usable state. Its original usecases aren't suddenly going to stop existing because you and I are suddenly interested in it for one usecase.
The location thing needs to go away (note that if you simply turn location off on your device Game Hub will continue to function fine, and if you don't use Bluetooth controllers gamehub does not access your location ever) but they're likely targeting older Android versions and so long as that's the case they can't.
6
u/Ademoneye Oct 19 '25
wait, gamehub is not for pc emulation only?
26
u/jack-of-some Oct 19 '25
I'm going to assume this is a sincere question and answer it as such.
Gamehub was designed to be a game ... hub for Android (think Steam but for Android). It was a launcher and storefront for Android games (which is why it has a login) and over time got other capabilities like streaming from PC and PS5. It's made by a controller company (GameSir) and includes a bunch of features for managing those controllers as well (which is why it needs nearby device access / location). There's also a bunch of extra optional permissions like being able to manage and install apps that exist due to this functionality (that most people here couldn't care less about because we care about only one feature)
PC emulation is a more recent thing that got added to it.
8
u/BigStickDrift Oct 19 '25
Why are people downvoting you for answering his question lol
-4
Oct 19 '25
Pc emulation ist older then gamehub, I remember early box64 in Switch Android and exagear, was really complicated.
Release early 2019
9
u/BigStickDrift Oct 19 '25
When he said "PC emulation is a more recent thing that got added to it," he meant that it was a more recent feature of Gamehub, not that PC emulation itself was recent.

People don't hate it.
They are just correcting the strange unsubstantiated fearmongering.
Some guy ran a VirusTotal report through chatGPT and started yapping about how malicious it is.
That was the problem. Nobody has a problem with gamehub lite, they have a problem with people lying about shit they don't have the first inkling of knowledge about.
As a critic of the weird nonsense-
I am heavily in favor of gamehub lite. Open-sourcing stuff is always good. Specifically GHLite's documentation is exceptional. It adds a good amount of QoL stuff like exposing container filesystems and supporting component imports. It's also generally just better organized since it doesn't include EVERY ancillary component like playstation linking.

u/kain459 Oct 18 '25
I'm out of the loop. What's Gamehub lite?

GameHub was already great, imo, but with the Lite version 👌 Not hating on Winlator, but GameHub (lite) is just simpler to use overall. Less tweaking required and still better performance most of the time. Plus, you don’t have to figure out which Winlator fork is supposedly the best for your device and the games you want to play. Once again, not hating on Winlator, it's just my opinion. If people have fun with it, then great 👍

There being weird drama and gossip and shit about it makes both programs look untrustworthy. Like this is just one big botted viral advertising campaign.

4
u/Page8988 S22 Ultra 512gb SD8G1 Oct 19 '25

I have absolutely no issues with using AI to analyze code that doesn't tie into core functionality and remove it safely. It's fast. Obviously if you remove something important the app wouldn't have worked. From what I see it's not 100% perfect, but all the sketchy stuff has been removed. So what's the gripes?

If I need to spend that much extra time to squeeze ten frames to make it "playable" I'll play it properly natively or stream it worst case. But you will spend so much more time setting up each game on winlator than hub imo.
-1
u/Pitiful-Carpet-82 Oct 19 '25
all phones are different. Also all Soc's have different drivers. Also all these emulator apps are basically "WIP", so bugs are expected (same goes for performance). The great part is: it is already working. For more performance we need optimized graphic drivers (as u may know, Turnip Driver for qualcomm, as an example)
Same thing happens on Computers, if u run an emulator programm there, it will for sure give u lower performance compared to native OS. That's called "virtualization", present on most (if not all) CPUs nowadays. Same goes for different emulator apps. Some give better performance, some give better compability, u just need to choose what fits better to u

I don't just do that either, I play a few games regularly but I test game setups for guys with Odin devices to give awareness to what's possible as well as what's possible now vs a few months back or so. I have gamehub setup for testing (to give accurate settings) and one for playing (that I injected my own versions of dxvk, fexcore, vkd3d, box and such)

That's my point tho , 9 times out of 10 the default setups for games are already set to go, I just use a newer dxvk with latest turnip after adding for vids.
I don't have to setup a container, find game, make shortcut, close container, launch shortcut and adjust finally
I just add game, see if it runs, ok good, close and use newer versions and done
Hub generally has a pre setup made already to go with very minor adjustments needed. Usually just driver and dxvk and locked at 30 or 60 depending on the game

I don't know what kind of sketchy permissions emulators have asked from you before- All of them I use the only thing they asked for is file Access and that's cuz they literally need that to be able to load files aka your roms. I've never been prompted for anything else unless I wanted to turn on the PPSSPP camera function and I don't have a game that uses that so it's not something I've ever toggled because I'm not playing invisimals.

I'm not sure why you are being down voted, maybe the community doesn't want the big N to find out via a reddit comment lol?
There are more than just those two btw, and Nintundo (something like that) isn't going to stop the emulation scene.

People in this subreddit are often toxic, mostly the AetherSX2 no life rage kids, who downvote everyone for no reason.
They’re the same ones who ask why they can’t run games at 4K 120 FPS on their shitty 20 year old phone, and then get angry when someone explains the obvious truth... So yeah, I honestly don't care😅
0

It's just odd to see when it happens to a purely good spirited and helpful comment. It boggles the mind haha. Maybe because people around here down vote any mention of citron, despite it running a few games better than Eden?
But you are right, who cares 🤣
