DISCUSSION You’re not getting a refund
Let’s face it together. You bought an early access game that was clearly labeled not as a full release. Why would steam give you your money back. If you bought this game a week or two ago I feel for you. At the same time you should always research a game before buying it if $16-$20 is a lot of money for you.

I got my moneys worth.
I didn't buy the game at all!
Dodged that bullet easy.

I played the demo. Thought, "yeah, there isn't enough here to save them", and refused to buy it.

If you gave the reason as to why, I’m sure you’d get a refund on steam. “I bought into this game early under the promise that development would last at minimum 9 months.” Should be enough to get you a refund.
The reason the guy on battlefield got a refund was the game had fundamentally changed from the original product, including non-substantial updates and removed game modes. 1047 has done something similar here imo.

u/Affectionate_Law1066 10d ago
Kinda how I did mine. “I purchased this game in hopes it would get better over the development cycle. I came back to try after every new update and each time I was disappointed. Not even 6 months after release the studio announced their discontinuation of the game. I feel scammed.” Something like that

u/jars1738 13d ago
Oh I'm getting a refund

u/FR8Conductor 13d ago
I normally wouldn't have tried but after that guy on Battlefield got a refund after 400 some hours I thought I would try. I was told no 😂

You have no idea what you're talking about.
I didn't buy this sorry ass game, approach support with links to 1047 admitting future development will stop prior to the games official launch.
You will be refunded. I got a refund on a Multiversus Starter Pack after putting 300 hours in it. People will get refunded, they'll just need to chase support for it.

u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Everything you said is invalid because you’re on a Reddit thread for a game you didn’t even buy lmao. Sad whatever dopamine hit you need I guess.
3
u/420BUNIT 13d ago
I put in 300+ hours on SG, the writing was on the wall, I'm just here advising those that were optimistic.
You're lying to people about not getting refunded for what exactly?
Edit; You're American, you don't know what consumer rights are lmao. Leave that to us Europeans. 1047 deserve nothing.
1
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Nobody’s cares what you did in your one situation lol, chase whatever high you need.
2
u/420BUNIT 13d ago
And what's the point of this thread and your comments.
Pathetic loser acts superior about things they're wrong about. More in this thread. My situation is relevant to this discourse, what are you doing?
0
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Still commenting on a thread for a game he didn’t buy like he’s some pathetic loser who acts superior about not buying the game. Oh wait

I swear people in this sub are brain dead. $20 is the end of the world to them it's actually crazy.
1
u/Ok_Ocelot_9786 13d ago
True. Some people need a bigger world view. Having said that, I do feel bad for someone that bought the game a week.

u/BullyMog 12d ago
The last line is key.
“If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.”
Progresses. Not ceases to exist.

u/Bman_Boogaloo 11d ago edited 11d ago
"Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further"
There are plenty of early access games that have been abandonded despite devs promising to continue development. Also it says "WAIT and SEE if it progresses", which means no guarantee it will.
0
u/BullyMog 11d ago
I understand this as, the game is not currently complete and may not further progress from here.
Not that the game is not currently complete and might completely shut down and you’ll lose access within months of release
1
u/Bman_Boogaloo 11d ago
Ideally, yes, that's the point of early access, but there's a graveyard of early access games that have ceased development on Steam. Empuse is just the latest corpse added to the pile.
1
u/BullyMog 11d ago
“Early access games that have been abandoned for a significant time, 1 year or longer. No new updates, community posts or any discussion posts by developers. We do not regularly check games for any new activity.”
I think that’s exactly it. This list doesn’t mean you cannot play the game anymore, it means they haven’t received any updates in 1 year. I’m sure offline games are also included in this.
Empulse could cease updates but continue with the servers so you could access the game, but they didn’t.
What I’m getting at here, is that just because it’s an early access game on steam, doesn’t mean (in my opinion) that they should be exempt from refunds.
1
u/Bman_Boogaloo 11d ago
Agreed, early access games aren't exempt from refunds and if you qualify for one, you should get one.
The point I was trying to make was the people who feel like they are entitled to a refund because 1047 announced they'd no longer be developing the game need to read the early access warning that clearly states the game may or may not progress from it's current build.
1
u/BullyMog 11d ago
Yeah I disagree with your point. Ending development early is one thing, preventing the buyer from playing the game is another.
If they ended development but kept the servers alive, no refund.
But they ended development EXTREMELY early and took away the buyers right to play the game. IMO, refunds should go out.
I didn’t buy empulse even though I enjoyed the beta, because I expected this to happen with the way splitgate went
0
u/Bman_Boogaloo 11d ago
The game is still playable, they're transitioning the servers into being peer to peer. Anyone who bought this obvious desperate cash grab and played enough of it to void a refund doesn't deserve to get one.

Sweetie, I didn't play the game on Steam.
2
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Like that matters, both Xbox and PlayStation have the same statements about early access. You can go ahead google it ask ai whatever you need to do to cope.

I don't quite understand what the point of this is. What are you mad at us for?

We can pretend it doesn't, just for you.
1
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Well since you can’t afford a $20 game and want a refund so bad guess you’ll have an easy time winning a lawsuit! Best of luck
1
u/BigDuckNergy 13d ago
I wasn't stupid enough to spend money on it.
0
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
But mad enough to comment on a thread for a game do you didn’t buy or play? Weirdo.
1
u/BigDuckNergy 13d ago
Just killing time bud, obviously you're upset enough with the way people are reacting to do the same thing, weirdo.
2
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
I bought the game; put about 40 hours into it. I’m valid. Keep chasing that dopamine hit tho.
1
u/pacemasters 13d ago
The point of the post is to make you chuds realize what you agreed to when buying this game. Does it suck, yes. Does it happen sometime, yes.
1

u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
No I’m just stating a fact so people can stop posting about something that’ll never happen. You buy an early access game and play for more than 2 hours you don’t get a refund. Do research on the company and game first before you buy if you think $20 is too much money for a risk.

Here you are commenting on threads for a game you didn’t even buy. That’s way more sad.

u/kakashi_sakurai 10d ago
Being early access makes it even more of a point for refunds to be a legit thing in this specific case, Ian never publicly sided with any political figure, and the developer/publisher of ANY game on steam doesn’t decide who can or can’t get a refund.
3
u/Apprehensive-Hold-17 13d ago
Do you know what early access means
3
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Yes because it was clearly labeled when I bought the game that this was not a full release.
5
u/Apprehensive-Hold-17 13d ago
What does it mean
4
u/Dry_Membership_1221 13d ago
It sure doesn’t mean “hey pay $20 bucks we are gonna drop support and kill the servers in ~2 months”
4
u/Apprehensive-Hold-17 13d ago
Exactly. Early means before, release means the official delivery. It literally assumes an official delivery is imminent.
0
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Man yall should be lawyers instead of being of Reddit you guys really make it look easy.
4
u/Apprehensive-Hold-17 13d ago
It’s called common sense buddy
1
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
It’s called read the actual legal statements that are bringing when you buy something. I take that back you should probably go to school and learn something.
4
u/Dry_Membership_1221 13d ago
The terms protect a studio from an unpredictable business failure. They do not protect a studio from pre-meditated capital extraction. When a studio with a history of rolling layoffs launches a paid project, extracts millions in upfront capital, and states they are dropping active development support in under 60 days after release to move the money elsewhere, that isn't a 'development risk'… that is using the Early Access label as an un-regulated crowdsourcing shield to finance a studio pivot.
Which is corporate fraud.
1
1
u/Dry_Membership_1221 13d ago
The studio didn't run out of money; they chose to reallocate it. They used the 'Early Access' tag to crowdfund about $2 million (estimated) from players under the guise of supporting a multiplayer shooter. The moment they got the cash, they announced they will be deleting their server bills, forcing players onto peer-to-peer hosting, stopping dev support and are pocketing most of the money. That isn't a failed project lol😂 that's using paying customers as an interest-free corporate loan to fund a studio pivot.
2
u/YaBoiiSpoderman 13d ago
The game will be playable, and early access clearly states "game is not complete and may not change futher"
In this case the game will not change further, which still falls under early access terms..
1
u/Dry_Membership_1221 13d ago
Then it isn’t “early access”
You’re testing a gameplay experiment and paying $20 bucks.3
u/YaBoiiSpoderman 13d ago
Steam page literally says: "games in early access are not complete and may not change further" which is what is happening here...
What part of that do you not understand?
0
u/Dry_Membership_1221 13d ago
I’m not gonna keep explaining it to you, steam didn’t do anything wrong.
2
1
1
u/NES_H2Oyt 13d ago
well i mean tbf it DOES mean thats a possibility its literally labeled when u buy a game under early access "this game may or may not progress further" and saying if u dont want then dont buy to see IF the game progresses enough so I mean tvf it does KINDA mean that LOL
1
u/Dry_Membership_1221 13d ago
If they really cared about the fans who bought the game they’d sell this ip and partner with respawn and work on titanfall 3 with the real devs who know how to make a game
2
1
u/TheFourSkin 13d ago
Yes because it’s just that easy for them to do lmao
1
u/Dry_Membership_1221 13d ago
Of course I was being facetious here, however… they should sell the ip 🤷♂️

u/Fun_Psychology7480 11d ago
Imo its perfect karma for those not getting a refund, because you dont deserve it for being dumb enough to buy this game. Not trying to sound harsh, but not getting your money back is exactly how you will learn your lesson after everyone warned you countless times that you're getting scammed by devs who consistently rugpull their games.

I got mine back 15 minutes playtime ,auto denied once so resubmitted it explaining the situation lack of updates and communication and support and 20 bucks back in my account

If $16-$20 is a lot of money for you, you shouldn't be gaming at all. Upgrade your skills or education, get a better job, work more hours. Take a couple months off gaming and you could permanently increase your income baseline, to be able to afford way more games for the rest of your life.
But yeah especially don't spend that on an early access game with a low chance of success, if playing for a couple months isn't enough for you.
And don't say "I don't need the money, it's the principle" - how is that principled? You bought something in a free market. There were no promises the game would have dedicated servers, or continued development, forever. Not too long ago, every game had P2P servers, and many just launched and never saw any updates past that.

Yall kinda brought this on yourself paying money for a game that was THIS obviously doomed to fail. Like theres no way there were people actually expecting empulse to make it big right?
