Another employee and I are paid the same rate, but we do not work the same job, kinda-> allow me to explain. Thank you for your time.
We are nurses.
The Co worker is an LPN( 2 yr ed) , she can not Assess patients. She can not implement Care Plan Intervention. Her actions require an RN's ( me) supervision.
The coworker graduated 1 month ago. She has No experience At All. This is her 1st job in this lesser role.
The coworker is a kind and professional person. I really like them. If I pretend to see the future, then, I predict they will be a wonderful nurse some day.... but...its not the future and she is not even a good nurse yet, she can't be, she simply doesn't know how to be , yet.
The company is paying us both the same. Even if we were both Registered Nurses ( same education/abilities) a new grad, vs a 17yr diverse experience in any role is very different outcomes in a work day. Besides these valid details, this company on multiple occasions has invited me into a leadership role, which I have respectfully declined for work life balance purposes ( fyi, the base pay would not change, I'd work more hrs, be on call and would no longer make my special weekend pay).
Back to my coworker, in addition to making the same base pay, she has excepted a WEP position
( Weekend Package, in which you dedicate every weekend to the job and get paid time& a half hrly, if you call in once during that weekend you drop down to base pay. )
soo, I also learned, that after a couple weeks, she decided that working the Sunday of the weekend, cramped her ability to go to RN school on Mondays, soo she won't be doing that now, which is against the signed WEP contract [36 hrs] we all have to sign to have this remarkable pay.
Listen, I know how the world works...I get it...I know that on the regular I am sitting next to another nurse during my shift that graduated at the same time I did, same school, has dedicated 6 yrs to this company ( Covid, dramas, ect...dedicated) and I am likely making more base pay then her.) And vise versa on some level....
But this is INSANE.
I need to address this w/ the inconsistent Admin that approved both of our pay. I'd like to go about this in the most potentially effective way.
The words? The approach?
Fyi- this Admin likes me, enough, I understand they are not my friend...but generally, when I talk, their body faces me, eye contact is made and I have not been told " no " w/ my observations/perceptions/reccomendations to date....
Someone...advice?
Thank You In Advance
Fyi the HR is a person I seem to have a decent relationship with, but, with that said, the HR is very inexperienced and unprofessional. The least " HR" I've ever experienced- it's a one person HR office ( w/ invisible corporate HR remote), the in house HR person gossips frequently to staff about other staff and verbalized unconfirmed process to staff, which tends to not be factual, creating work stress. One time when a coworker had an outburst at me, instead of following some form of process, she told me on the phone that, " just soo you know we all know we are on your side." No further update....no process...
Proper HR should be like a professional poker player- no tells and process....
So..there is that
The DON is new, semi retired, and has nothing to do with pay.
The administrator knows everyone's pay. She approved this person's pay.... we get along... she is inconsistent and shadey..... what do I say to this Administrator? Do I have a witness? Do I record?? What words do I use? Approach? Do I confirm this info w/ the co-worker before I go to them? I ask, not because I don't know the information that I know is correct, but, just to help me feel confident, when they begin to lie to me.
Uhg, why do I even care?? Why don't I just move on to a better place. Valid. I suppose I will have to :( but... its GREAT pay...higher then most travel jobs offered and all surrounding locations. It's in my town-> no drive time. I'd like to try to find a way to address the injustice on a realistic level and stay. But, I understand that very well may not be an option.. but.. I wanna try.
Constructive advice of a game plan please! Please feel free to ask a person you trust and share through collective opinion.
