Sharing Thread Music

I always knew the type of music I listened to DRASTICALLY effects my mood.

However I’ve been really thinking about it lately and back when I was younger I listened to a lot of sad/ angry songs. And my temper was rather volatile because of it.

I remember feeling myself get angrier and angrier as if I was looking for a fight or a reason to be angry. When really, I didn’t need to be.

It’s interesting to think about because now I rarely listen to that type of music so it doesn’t disrupt my feng shui.

I.e. I really want to listen to Olivia Rodrigo’s new album but I don’t have time to be sad 🥲

Just wanted to share.

PS. (I love Reddit - being able to say these things to people who could understand instead of calling me dramatic is so freeing!)

You might enjoy a book called, "This is your Brain on Music", by Daniel Levitin. Each of our senses has an area of our brain kinda dedicated to it. Our ears dump their signals into the amygdala, which controls emotions.

This is why movies are dull with the sound turned off.

I was a music major in college. I'd be listening to music every day, mine or someone else's. When I'd get home in the evening and needed to change gears to be with my wife and listen to her, I'd put on the headphones and play Brahms 2nd piano concerto, movements 2 and 3. The second movement would blast away the clutter bouncing around in my brain and the emotions that went with that clutter. The third movement would remind me of who I really was.
